I take metformin er. I see it in my poop later in the day. I have a lot of diarrha. ## HI, Paty! How are you? Diarrhea is a normal side effect that can happen when taking Metformin. If it's very severe and occurring too frequently, then you should speak to your doctor about it, your medication may need to be adjusted. As to seeing the tablet in your stool, that is also normal. The outer shell actually doesn't dissolve, when you take these controlled release tablets. They use a special release mechanism that's similar to a sponge, it slowly releases the medication into your body by gradually absorbing minuscule amounts of your stomach acid. Once done, the outer shell of the tablet is then expelled as waste. Learn more Metformin ER details here. Please note that this mechanism...

my creatinine has always been normal. The result from 7/1/09 was 1.14. I am a type 2 diabetic with mild-mod hypertension. I take metformin 1000 twice daily, byetta 10 mcg twice daily, diovan 160/12.5 in the am and diovan 80 mg at night. I am really concerned about this sudden rise in my creatinine. Over the past year my levels ranged from 0.7 at the lowest to 0.83 at the highest - and now this reading. I had the study repeated this morning and am waiting for the results. About 1-2 months ago, my BP increased to 160-170's systolic and I was also started on Bystolic 2.5 mg. My pressure has since returned to normal since I stopped using Aleve. I now no longer have to take the Bystolic. The Dr wants me to do a 24 creatinine clearance. I'm really scared that this could be something s...

I weigh myself twice weekly, my scale tells me I have gained 4 pounds over a short period. I have been on Metformin 750 for over a year. My concern is this rapid gain. Can anyone tell me about their experience and what they found to keep weight stable. My diet includes fresh fruit , low carb vegetables, some whole grain bread, and whole wheat pasta. I noticed recently though snacking on nuts mixed in dried fruit. ## How rapidly have you gained weight? The NIH does warn that diabetes itself can cause weight changes, however there are other issues that could cause it, as well, such as high blood pressure, edema, or a heart condition. Thus, the safest thing to do would be to have this checked out by your medical provider, for your own safety. How much are you snacking? Some nuts can contai...

What are the interactions between Metformin, Amlodipine & Losartan taken together, and is it safe to take these together? ## I didn't find any problems, or interactions listed, but it is always best to double check to be sure. However, they are commonly prescribed together to treat diabetes, and high blood pressure. The FDA does warn that you may experience more severe side effects than usual, such more severe dizziness, and drowsiness. So, it would be best to be careful about driving, or operating machinery, until you know how they affect you. Have they all been prescribed for you?

I take two metformin at a time in the a.m. & p.m. I have noticed the tablets do not dissolve when I go to use the toilet. Am I getting the full effect of the medication, being that the tablet is still whole when excreted? Thank you. ## Yes, some tablets are coated and time released, so what you are actually excreting is just the shell, but the medication is released and absorbed. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, diarrhea, and flatulence. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking metformin but the last batch I got from the drugstore looked different it was smaller and the labelling was different, it has a m at the top on one side and 500 under it at the bottom of the same side. The other side just has a cut line on it. When I asked the pharmacy about this they said it has new on the bottle. I just want to make sure this is not a counterfeit pill as I can not find it anywhere on the internet ## I had the same problem and called the Pharmacy. Can I use Metformin for weight reduction? I wanted to know about the side effects of Metformin... ## I wouldn't count on using an anti-diabetic drug for weight loss. Your best bet is a healthy change in eating habits and regular exercise. A pill won't lose the weight for you. Sorry to sound blunt, but it would be ignorant to think otherwise. As far as side effects go...the most common adverse effect of metformin is gastrointestinal upset, including diarrhea, cramps, nausea, vomiting and increased flatulence; metformin is more commonly associated with gastrointestinal side-effects than most other anti-diabetic drugs. The most serious potential side-effect of metformin use is lactic acidosis; this complication is very rare, and the vast majority of these cases seem to be related t...

my mother has been prescribed Glycomet 500 mg. But after she has started the medicine, she is experiencing problem of Piles. Is this problem related to glycomet ## Glycomet contains the active ingredient Metformin, it is an oral antidiabetic agent, used to help lower or control blood sugar. It is not known to cause hemorrhoids. Has she consulted her doctor? It is difficult to say how any medication will affect any individual and thus, it may or may not be related. It could also be due to dietary changes, if she's had to adjust what she eats, due to being diabetic. If she's been constipated, at all, and straining to have bowels movements, that may be contributing to the problem. ## effects of glycomet on pregnancy ## i was given glycomet 500mg but soon problem started wth me that...

I have white oval pills with the letters S G on one side and 117 on the other side of the pill. What are they? Neurontin 600mg? ## I located a white oval pill with S G on one side and 107 on the other. Is there any chance that you might've misread the imprint? The pill I found is reportedly identified as Metformin HCL 1000mg, used for type-2 diabetes. The S | G are separated by a score line on one side and the back has 1 | 07 also separated by a score line. For verification, the manufacturer is listed as ScieGen Pharmaceuticals and the pill itself carries a National Drug Code of 50228-0107. I hope this helps!

I stopped the metformin about 2 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with MS, and after they added Copaxone that made 5 medications and I wanted to cut some out, so I started with Metformin. Since then I've been achey, dizzy, and my jaw is hurting. Is this because I stopped the metformin? I also take Lamictal for bi-polar disorder, methylphenidate for ADD, and birth control. I've continued taking these. ## Those could be symptoms of your MS, rather than being due to any specific medication. MS is well known to cause random unexpected symptoms, according to NIH reports. But the Copaxone can also cause similar side effects. As to cutting out some medications, that might not be a good idea, sometimes we do need to be reliant on them for our health, and well being. How are you doing, now? Has...
