Meloxicam Long Term Use (Page 2)

I have been taking meloxicam 15 mg once per day for RA for more than six years now. I would like to know whether it is safe to use the drug for such a long duration? I can not stop this drug in my present condition. Is there any data available on this subject?

I have been taking Meloxicam for about 9 months and have had no side effects of the type described by other subscribers. My doctor organises regular blood tests and other checks and recently has also prescribed a gastro-resistant (proton pump inhibitor) medication called Omeprazole, which reduces the amount of acid that the stomach produces. These should definitely be prescribed to anyone taking Meloxicam or similar medication long-term. Hope this helps.

Wendy - I had an RFA because I needed relief for an upcoming 4 week trip overseas. The results were amazing! No lower back pain for the trip and considering how bad things had been it was wonderful. Sadly things wore off after about 6 months and are back to normal. Severe lower back pain that varies depending on what I am doing and the time of day. If you need short term relief I would say go for it if you have something special coming up that you need to be zippy for!

My doctor prescribed 15 mg of meloxicam for lower back pain. She prescribed 2 weeks worth and a muscle relaxer. My back is feeling so much better. Can I stop this med or do I need to finish the pills? It has really helped my back, knee and hip pain. I'm also on omeprazole but have quit taking that while I've been on meloxicam.

This is my second post to this thread. I had concerns about this med and after 3 years of use I have discontinued its use. I have switched over to MSM. I have been taking about 10 mg for 3 months. While it's not as good, it's close enough. Without medication I need a Cain to walk. MSM has been a game changer and I am so happy to not worry about meloxicam anymore
I want to point out that when I first stopped taking my meloxicam, the pain was severe, but 2-3 weeks after I stopped the pain decreased significantly. That what happens in the past when I went to stop. The pain was so high I would start up using it again. I suggest folks how try to stop its use give some time.
In summery : MSM is a good alternative for me, totally natural and I need to stop use of meloxicam for a while before the inflammation went down.

My Dr. gave me Meloxicam for joint pain in my knees and shoulder. I took one at 10am and it had worn off at 9pm. Can you take another one after 11 hours?

Does meloxicam cause heart attacks and strokes? I have been taking the meds and at the pharmacy they gave me the list of side effects and that's what it said.

It's my understanding that folks start out at 7.5 and if after a week or so the don't get the relief they are looking for, the jump to 15. Never more than 15. And it can be taken just once a day.

I used Meloxicam 15 mg one /day for 18 months. My RA pain control was excellentand I got away from Ibuprofen 600 mg/d which I had been taking for 6 years. Ibuprofen caused HI BP and Conjestive Heart Failure (CHF) diagnosislenol. Meloxicam started to affect Kidney issues, Creatinie up to 1.4 and GFR below 50 an alarm! Stopped Meloxicam 3 months ago. Now my RA is ( diagnosed 9 years ago) is baad. HI stiffness in my body and painful fingers. I am now using 650 mg Time Release Tylenol one/d for partial relief. Hoping to reverse Kidney issues but my Liver might get affected by Tylenol. Catch 22! I pray to die every night, I am 79 male.

I I have been taking 15 mg daily for at least two yrs. with no side effects. Dr. Ordered liver function test last week cause I had what I thought was gall bladder pain. I had blood work and an ultrasound that all show my guts are FINE. Results show no problems. Meloxicam is a MIRACLE for me. It use it because I had a horrible accident that almost severed my foot and eventually needed ankle fusion and what WAS my ankle had chronic pain. It always worked great. The day after I quit taking it my ankle was so swollen and painful I slipped getting out of tub and wrecked my sacroiliac joint. After liver test came back good two days ago i immediately restarted meloxicam with almost instant relief. I have hypertension possibly because I’m chubby. So I can choose to be fat and have hypertension and force my wonky ankle to bear an inordinate amount of weight or get lean and maybe need no meds. I need to think about long term effects you all mention. Scary.

What is the regimen to stop taking Meloxicam 7.5mg 2x 1 a.m./1p.m.? My doctor wants me to stop but did not tell me how.

I have been taking Meloxicam for over 2 months now. It has been a miracle for me. I have been in horrible pain for 10 years. But just recently, I have been getting chest pains, some back pain and feelings of someone strangling me, and sweating. I thought it may be a terrible heartburn. Took tums, it helped alittle. I stopped the pill the next day and I was fine. I took it again today and the awful feeling came back. Anyone else get this? My God, I would hate to stop this pill, I’m on a very minimal dose. Am I allergic? But why has it been perfectly fine taking it until now?
