Medication Dosage For Dog

I have a 12 lb chihuahua with an abscess from my dads senile dog biting her leg. I have no money right now for a vet. I do have smz-tmp da 800-160 mg tablets. I was wondering how much I should give her? Please help!

Dogs can take this medication, generally, it's stated that they should be given 13mgs per pound of body weight every 24 hours and it usually works better if given twice a day, every 12 hours.

However, this is a sulfa based medication, so its rate of allergic reactions it fairly high, so you really should not give it to her, without a veterinarian's approval. If you give it to her anyway and she suffers an allergic reaction, you could end up with a really huge vet bill.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
