Lyrica Lawsuit (Page 7) (Top voted first)
UpdatedDoes anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against the company who puts out Lyrica? I am a mess from it. Do we have a leg to stand on when it comes to the side effects they found out from people like us? I am a long termer. I have been taking 900 mg since 2005. Is there anyone representing us? Thank you
I have contacted over a dozen attorneys who specialize in this sort of litigation. Some of these have web pages asking you to contact them if you have experienced damages due to Lyrica. But every attorney has told me "I'm sorry, we do not take Lyrica cases."
Since none of them have explained why, I can only guess. One guess is that there is some recent case in which the makers of Lyrica prevailed. (making it much less likely that similar cases can be won). Another is that Lyrica has gone around hiring these law firms to do various assignments for big money. Once a law firm takes on a client like that, the firm cannot take on any cases which would cause a conflict of interest. This is just a guess though...nothing more.
I am very happy to have come across this website. My life was completely destroyed after taking Lyrica, by Pfizer for only seven months. Has anybody contacted the attorney(s) that just won the case against Pfizer for another medication? Pfizer was ordered to pay a HUGE amount. I think it was one of the highest payments ever by a drug manufacturer. I've been looking for the case, but don't know how to find the attorney, or firm that won against Pfizer. On a side note, did anybody in this forum have dental problems while using Lyrica?
only you know what side effects can be tolerated. What out weights the pain. I took Lyrica for pain. Fear of that pain hindered me from seeking out any other options. When you wake up not hurting it can be the best feeling ever. you have to be your own advocate. review the site i have attached... this woman is now losing her vision. For me the side effects far out weighed the pain relifef.

Karen, I haven't found one yet. I talked to a couple and they both acted like I was crazy. He said you sound fine to me I sent out my info to that website that had an attorney from New York but I haven't heard anything back. Whats weird is I lost 2 teeth and had a root canal after taking lyrica and I have also had blurry vision for a few years, but I never associated those problems to the lyrica.I watched my Mom live with maculat defgeneration and going almost blind, it is horrible, I am so glad I realized that it was the lyrica that caused all my other problems. I have been off of it for over 2 years and I still have the effects it caused to my brain. This is scarry stuff. I see a shrink on a regular basis and I feel so good because he told me last month that he probably saved the life of a woman because of my story. She became extremely suicidal after taking Lyrica and when he realized that she had started taking it he told her about me and she stopped right away and is doing better now. We all really do need to pursue getting this off the market. They advertise it everyday and when you are in as much pain as I have been and all of you have been and you hear this stupid commerical that makes it sound like it is going to solve all your pain, of course you want to try it, anything to be able to actually stand up straight when you get out of bed in the morning. I am very Proud of that Amber woman for keeping the FDA up on what is going on with her eyesight. I will definately let everyone know if I find an attorney and everyone else please do the same.
I wrote a long email a few days ago, about what had happened to me after taking Lyrica for 15 days. But after reading all your comments, it seems some of us may have other things in common! I was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration in 4/09. I'm the older of 7 and no one in my family has any eye probs like this. My mom went to her grave at age 80 with perfect vision. My dad died at age 67 and never wore glasses. Soooo, you tell me!!! AND approx 2 yrs ago, my teeth began literally falling out either in my food, mostly in my hands. I'd feel something, like a little pebble in my mouth, and when I spat it out, it would always be a tooth, I wasn't even aware of being loose. It had decayed from the inside out. No pain, at all.My teeth went from bad to worse. I have seen 3 oral surgeons and am now scheduled to have, what few teeth are remaining, extracted and dentures put in. I've always had beautiful, white, even teeth, just like my dad did.. I blamed all this on Fibro. You know, Fibro people DO have dry mouth. So, it made sense. Thats why my teeth were all falling out. Also, my hair began to thin, badly in last 1-2 yrs, until now I'm close to being bald right in the front. (I'm female BTW, so this is very disconcerting to me) I still have very long brown hair, even at age 72.it hasn't turned gray even yet. I'd been thinking of having doctor check my thyroid, cause I was sure the hair loss was a thyroid problem. And.who's to say? It still may be. but I'm beginning to smell a 'skunk' in this Lyrica prob with the pharmaceutical company.I appears this med was pushed thru without a thorough research of it. Pretty scarey ! Right? Keep us all posted everyone.
I think I can only be thankful (if you could call it that) that Lyrica may only be responsible for causing my eyesight to deteriorate more rapidly than reasonable but I do have to say that it does work really well for me with respect to stopping the muscle spasms that cause pain. I have a 24/7 opoid pain relief patch for my Fibromyalgia; plus I take P.Forte and Endone pain relief; and often I can take those and still have pain and can feel the spasms around my body and when I then take a Lyrica (on top of all else) finally the pain is relieved tho fort.still only on 150mg daily and would not dream of going any higher due to potential side effects. But then I am always concerned about long term effects of all the pain relief that I need to simply exist due to this god awful illness.
Vicky:
I'm glad your docor is working with you. Here is some information i found on nerve pain meds. I hope it is useful.
The new medicine the doctor is putting on is the same as Lycria. Check with your doctor. That medicine was changed just a little and then Pfizer marketed it as Lyrica. Hang in there.
seizure medications: Relief from nerve pain
Side effects limit treatment
Anti-seizure drugs have been used to treat nerve pain for more than 50 years, but their use was limited by the severity of side effects they produce.
This is from the Mayo Clinic.
Anti-seizure medications: Relief from nerve pain
Older anti-seizure drugs include:
Carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Tegretol)
Phenytoin (Dilantin)
Valproic acid (Depakene)
Side effects may include:
Liver damage
Nausea
Vomiting
Double vision
Loss of coordination
Drowsiness
Headache
Because these older drugs generally have more side effects than do the newer anticonvulsants, they often are used only when the newer medications prove ineffective.
Newer anti-seizure drugs
Many new anti-seizure drugs have been developed in the past 15 years. Some help relieve pain caused by damaged nerves.
Gabapentin (Neurontin)
Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal)
Pregabalin (Lyrica)
Tiagabine (Gabitril)
Topiramate (Topamax)
Gabapentin has the fewest side effects, so it typically is the first anti-seizure drug tried in people experiencing nerve pain. Gabapentin and pregabalin, which is similar to gabapentin, are particularly effective in the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia, diabetic neuropathy and migraines.
Okay! Been off of Lyrica for a little over a month and still having the side effects. It's incredibly frustrating because I went to the fibro clinic in Seattle, saw the pain specialist there who insulted me three times in a 20 minute interview, and then prescribed Savella. Gave it an honest try for three days and quit because the headache was so bad. I'm so fed up with this!!! Desperately tired of being experimented on my the pHARMaceutical criminals! There's no place left to go except narcotics, and the criminals make that an unsuitable option by putting huge doses of NSAID's in everything so you end up damaging your liver.
I have to make an assumption here, but since I can't find an attorney who'll tackle the criminals on my behalf UNTIL AFTER I'VE REACHED THE POINT OF SUICIDE, they must think I'm worth more dead than alive. No worries -- I'm not going to give up my life for them. There are other answers.
I am in shock after finding this website. I have taken Lyrica for about 4 years but was only put on a large dose about 1 1/2 years ago. During that time I was hospitalized for suicidal thoughts/attempts. I only found it was causing my depression/severe anxiety after my insurance stopped covering it & I could not afford it for a month. I have had over 20 cavities flled in the last year, after never having a cavity since I was 16 years old (I am 40 now). I just had a tooth removed a couple days ago due to the nerve dying & causing an abcess. I can't believe that Lyrica is behind this mystery. My dentist was convinced I had stopped brushing my teeth! How can this product still be on the market?!
Welcome Amy...I am glad you found us. It is too bad it takes some of us such along time to find out what the lyrica is doing. And Vicki, thanks for the update, I would really appreciate you letting me know if he is going to help you. If it works out I would love his name and number. I also have some new information that might possibly help some of you. I don't know everyone's history., but I have had Fibro for well over 10 years, on top of 4 car accident injuries and depression and struggled with weight due to all the heath problems. At times from the fibro I have spent days and weeks in bed. Anyway the reason I am mentioning all of this is because in April I answered an ad for a biggest loser weight loss type challenge. My daughter (21) went with me for moral support and after hearing about it we both became convinced that this could help both of us. I freaked out because they were promoting a product, which I didn't know about when I went to it. But the testimonials made it sound so good, i ended up buying a bunch of the product. The lady didn't push it on me, in fact quite the opposite she was trying to get me to get less, but I was getting it for my daughter and I both and we wanted to really commit so I got lots. Anyway to try and make a long story short, it changed both of our lives. She quit smoking after 5 years (she said it just didn't taste good to her anymore) she started feeling better and losing weight. I started losing weight and started having energy and feeling so much better. I started doing things I haven't done in years. I painted my whole house by myself, went from 2 mins on the elipticul to 45 mins without pain. We have two acres and I have been helping my 90 year old father mow the lawn 2, 3 even 4 hours at a time. I was the biggest loser in my weight loss challenge 25 lbs in 7 weeks and now up to 32 lbs. I took myself off of my prednisone for the fibro 6 days ago and I still feel great. Anyway in case you are wondering it is all because of HERBALIFE !! I went in hoping to lose weight and ended up feeling like a new person with a new daughter. I am so excited about our results and the stories I have heard that I decided to become a distributor and try and help other people. They have been around for 30 years, have some of the most intelligent Doctors, scientists and researchers on staff. I could never try to promote something if I didn't truly believe in it. This has given me a new lease on life and if there is a chance it could help any of you I want to be able to because I was where you are just a couple of months ago. I have wanted to let you all know sooner, but I wanted to be sure. If any of you are interested go to www.herbalife.com and check it out. If any of you would like to try it you can go through me, that would be great cuz I like all of you I am sure have struggled for so long because I was unable to work, but I am not telling you this to make money, I am telling you to help you, so I don't care where you get it. But this is cheaper than drugs and so good for you. I don't even crave ice cream anymore. Can anyone tell I am excited? If you have any questions feel free to email me.
Oh my. I am only taking 50 mgs twice a day for about a year and having scary side effects. Talk about re-wiring my brain!!! I feel like someone has stuck in their hand and is swirling my brain around! I'm always almost losing my balance completely - looking a little tipsy. My eyes swirl around a paragraph and won't stay on the line. I've lost the ability to focus in the center. It makes me so nervous I don't want to read. I can't write by hand anymore because it's so jerky. I'm way off on answering questions because I can't remember the question. I ask question over and over because I can't remember asking it or what the answer was. My sentences are all jumbled. People have to help me talk because I can't remember my words. Words and logic are the center of my job. I just retired early after 34 years. Thank heaven I had the time in to do that. Sometimes I spout-off on the people that are loving and helping me the most - not good. I thought for sure I had a brain tumor or early onset alzheimers. I'm so glad I found this site. I'm sure it's the Lyrica. I'm going to talk to my doctor immediately about weaning off of the drug. This is much worse than my symptoms. I don't want to lose my mind, my eyesight and my family.
Shar,
I have tears in my eyes reading your post! I used to be a legal proofreader and now I can't even read for entertainment. My fibro started more than 20 years ago, and the last time I was able to work was 1994, but since I started Lyrica it's gotten so much worse.
OMG!!! The lawyers are not going to do a thing until there are thousands of us SCREAMING at them, emailing and calling and writing letters to them every day! It is criminal for the legal profession to tell us that they're not interested in fighting for us until AFTER WE'RE DEAD!
How many of us know at least 10 other people who have fibro? Out of all of those, how many have been seriously harmed or killed by this poison? My therapist -- my mental health care clinician! -- said she has listened to so many stories from her clients about the damage that Lyrica has done to them.
If you ask me, it's time to start screaming at the top of our lungs! I've started by giving links to this board to the people I talk to in the fibro chat room at ProHealth.com and I continue to look for more places where I can share it with other fibro sufferers. I think it's a small but significant victory every time I warn someone in a chat room or on a message board, and it makes them think twice about taking this toxic garbage.
I have some dental problems that need help with, cause I took LYRICA and was allergic to it. The Dr. finnaly listened to me and by that time LYRICA was in my system and he took me off LYRICA cold turkey and went through withdrawals severely. That lasted for 3 months been sick, sick sick not even able to go to bathroom by myself. I have black-out dates that I do not even remember and to get to the point . I have had my teeth cleaned every six months for over 20 years and during those months I have 2 teeth that need oral surgery from not beeing able brush my teeth and go to dentist as normal. I need help to get info on company contact because I hold them responseable for my two bad teeth. Plus nobody even knows how I will be affected for the rest of my life from taking the LYRICA still having bad days from it. The Dr. says I should not I said you are not with me 24/7 are you! I know my body better that anyone. Any one with any info., let me know please.
When my counselor suggested I file a lawsuit against Lyrica, I was pretty surprised. It had never occured to me, but the more I thought about it the more sense it made. I lost years of my life to that stupid drug & none of my Drs (at least 5) even thought of looking at the side effects of the drugs they were prescribing me. However in IL you only have 12 months from the time you realized Lyrica (or whatever drug) was responsible for your condition. Your suit doesn't have to be brought to court during that time, but the case needs to be filed. I'm not sure if we can find a way to file the claims ourselves since the lawyers are obviously not on board at this point. I figured out in March so still have some time, but don't want to wait until the last minute. As a side note, I was shopping in Target the other day & happened to be by the pharmacy, I overheard the pharmacist on the phone w/ a patient. She was saying that Lyrica does have vision problems as a side effect but only in 3% of cases, which is about the same as a placebo & was recommending it. I wanted to tell her everything I've found out about this horrible drug!! I know they have a confidentiality issue though, so just struggled not to say anything. Now I feel terrible about it. I wish we could get the word out as often as that damn commercial is on tv!! Telling all my own Drs just doesn't seem like enough.
I have contacted 3 lawyers and all of then say they can't help me. I think in Michigan someone told me that it was 3 years, that is why I was trying so hard to find one. Cuz my suicide attempt was 3 years agao this last Memorial day weekend. I feel the same way, everytime I see that damn commericial, I want to throw something at it. My Mom became very ill that year that I suffered the horrible side effects. it was the last months I had with her before she passed away and I was a mess, I should have been there for her more than I was able to because of those stupid pills. I wonder if we all take on the drug company in a group lawsuit if the statue of limitations is the same. One good thing though, is my shrink was helping another female patient who was starting to have the same side effects as I was and became suddenly very suicidal just like I did. He recognized that she was acting the same as me and was able to help her and she is doing much better now. Just think if we are all able to help just one person. That is a very good thing. We just have to keep praying that we can find just the right person or law firm that is powerful enough or gutsy enough to try and take on the drug lords...Vicky good luck and I am still searching also. Lets just keep each other updated. P S does anyone else struggle with typing as much as I do? I constantly have to correct myself and not because I am a bad typist. I HATE LYRICA!!!!!!!!!!!
Tammy,
OMG!! The doctor who is allowing this to go on is a monster! What about going to the state medical board in the state you live in and reporting the abominable practices of this doctor who obviously doesn't give a rip about the health of his patients?
I'm so sorry that you have to face this without the help of any functional family. You must feel as though there is a thousand pound weight on your shoulders! If you need to find emotional support, you might try going to Prohealth. They have a fibromyalgia chat room and one for ME/CFS, which I think is just how they refer to the same illness/syndrome in the UK. Both rooms would be good.
I just had an idea. I'm going to change my user name in those chat rooms to LyricaSurvivor1, and suggest that if anyone else decides to use the same chat rooms, they use a similar user name. That way, the fibro sufferers who are using or considering using Lyrica will possibly start to get the picture about how dangerous this drug is. Anything we can do to get or keep another person off this drug is a victory!
Latresa, that is a new one that Ihaven't heard about..what type of scarring is it, if you don't mind my asking.
Tammy, i totalally sympatize with you, my daughter was addicted to prescription drugs, and it ended up taking her life at 35, it doesn't matter how hard you try, if they don't want to be helped they can't be, i just hope she listened to someone before it is too late for her or some innocent bystander. Best of luck and God's blessings to you.
Amy: I haven't tried this yet, but I think I will next time. But have you tried sending this link to any of the attorneys, so they can see how many people are affected by this awful drug? And also, I think you might be right, we should all contact the same lawyers and then maybe they will not e able to say no.

Hi,
I'm 19 years old now and was on Lyrica for 7-9 months between 2008 and 2009 to treat my fibromyalgia which I have had symptoms for since I was 5. My rheumatologist told me that I would have to take it for a year or two (which was a lie) and eventually my pain would go away forever. I knew this was false, however, I was desperate to get rid of my pain which made me collapse on a daily basis. I began taking it and for several months it seemed okay because my pain was numbed. However, 5 months in, I began to notice a severe change in my mood that made me extremely depressed and my pain began to return. My rheumatologist doubled my dosage and I was taking Lyrica 2 times a day now. About 2 months later, my pains began to return with a higher severity than before I started taking Lyrica. Eventually, I got impatient and quit the medicine. I didn't even tell my doctor because I was so frustrated with her. Eventually, I started to notice small side affects a few weeks after quitting. I couldn't think straight, I would be talking to someone and suddenly I would forget what I was talking about completely. I forget simple words used in everyday sentences. I have acid reflux, so I've had a few cavities here and there all my life. Since starting Lyrica, almost every one of my teeth has a cavity or a visible hole, I've had 2 root canals and I need several more, one of my molars has cracked and I need an implant for that, etc. The biggest side effects that I experience everyday is that I feel like I've suddenly become stupid. I can't figure out simple situations or answer simple questions anymore. Someone will say something to me and the rest seems muffled (like they're putting their hand over their mouth) and what I do hear I don't always understand. It's almost as if my common sense doesn't exist anymore. I stutter alot, I have dyslexia symptoms (I was tested when I was little and it was concluded that I did not have it), I have a relapse of my brain (I'll say, I went went went went to the store instead of I went to the store) I'll say something to someone, which seems comprehensible to me, but will be jibberish or a mix of words I didn't mean to even say. My hands and feet don't always feel pain either (I've stepped on a curling iron and didn't realize and got almost a 3rd degree burn, my hand will get cut and I won't realize it until I see the blood). My fiancee, who was with me before, during and after my experience with Lyrica has noticed changes in my behaviour, attitude, speech and thought process.
I don't even know what to do anymore about this. One of my family friends has told me that I could be apart of a class action lawsuit or any lawsuit for that matter to get compensation. I would like to be apart of one, if there is one going on. This medicine has hurt me for life and it is not fair that at such a young age I have to live like this forever. I am very fortunate that I have a man like my fiancee to help me through it, though. He helps me through school and always makes sure that I am on track with what I am speaking about, writing about, or doing.
From what I've read on the internet on news websites, the man who was conducting research on Lyrica and several other medicines faked his data and results. I have been cheated, as well as anyone else who has suffered from this medicine, and something should be done about it.
I have been on Lyrica for almost 3 years,, 75mg daily. I fell twice and was diagnosed with Fibro. I was getting worse and was tested for Arson. It showed up in my blood,, has anyone had that happen? I was taking fish oil but I have been in pain for almost 2 years and unable to walk far. Only 53 years old!
