Lupin Lisinopril Pill Size Change (Page 3)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I take 10 miligram Lupin tables - have been taking them 2x a day for 20 years. Today, I opened the bottle and they were 1/2 the size. Same markings on the pill and container, same color, same manufacturer but 1/2 the size. I asked the pharmacy assistant about it and she said the company was making them smaller but they were the same. I asked how they were doing that - were they removing fillers? Why did they have so many fillers in the first place. She said she didn't know, but would transfer me to the pharmacist. I asked the pharmacist and she sounded like she had been asked what the weather would be like the next day - "oh, I don't know...yeah...I don't really know." I don't feel comfortable taking these.

Had another conversation with my pharmacist about the size change when I recently went in to refill my 20mg Lisinopril. He did some research, checked the pharmaceutical numbers and database and agreed that Lupin has totally stopped manufacturing the former larger size of the 20 mg those of us on this chat line always took before the change to a smaller pill. With his suggestion, we simply changed manufacturers and I am now back to the normal larger size via the company SANDOZ. Instead of filling the entire 90 day prescription from my doc, I only filled it for 30 days to make sure there were no side effects now going back to the larger pill after such a long time. I take my Lisinopril at bedtime so it doesn't interfere with any other med. Last night was my first dose back on the larger 20mg pill. You may also want to talk to your pharmacist about changing manufacturers.

A very helpful pharmacist said that it may be a coating on the new lisinopril that people are having issues to, the new pills are shiny. I do not have facts to support this but thought I would throw it out there.

Yes. They have gotten smaller. And with the smaller pill size my blood pressure went way up so my doctor increased my dosage from 30 mg to 40 mg per day. I'm back to where I started in January with regular blood pressure checks at the doctors office until we know whether or not this dosage is correct or not. I received no notification from the pharmacy that anything had changed and when I asked them about it they only said "they're making the pills smaller now." No further explanation and they acted like I was wasting their time.

It's not just Walmart. I got my pills from Walgreens.

I have been taking 10mg Lupin Lisinopril from Walmart daily for 6-7 years. BP has been consistently great the entire time. Walmart filled my August prescription with the new smaller size 10 mg Lupin Lisinopril. Started feeling off immediately, but put it down to stress, etc. I went to my doctor today, BP reading was 155/88, six hours after taking my normal dosage. My diastolic is always 78-80. The new "reformulated" Lupin Lisinopril is not doing its job. My Walmart pharmacist gave me 10 days worth of the Old Larger tablets. I immediately felt better ( the nagging headache is gone). I got a lot of rote answers from the pharmacist, and clearly she has no definitive answers, but Lupin and Walmart have seriously compromised my health... not to happy with either one right now...

I had the same pill size and when I started taking them it seemed like the did nothing. My BP went up to numbers I never saw and I ended up having a time. Spent three days in hospital and the pills they had brought my BP back down. When I started my pills at home my BP went back up. My doctor gave me samples from a different mfg. and they brought my BP back to normal. I think Lupin's contractor is making some bad meds.

Same. Blood pressure went up after starting the new size. I took lisinopril for years with no problem. Then within a month BP was 165-92 without any other changes in my life. Dr's poo poo'd it. Put me on additional meds. I am very upset that I have to do the detective work on this.

Right, blame the patient. I received my new refill and just started taking it without noticing the size difference actually. I felt odd the second day and couldn't understand why. I started getting severe leg cramps and since the only drug I take is the 20mg Lupin Lisinopril I checked it carefully. It was smaller. I had a few of the larger ones left and took those. All was better. I called the worthless Humana Pharmacy and they didn't even know they changed but stated it couldn't be the pills. So I started back on the small ones and the next day I felt terrible with severe leg cramps. Sick and in pain last night I called poison control. Worthless. So now being a long holiday I'm stuck. I will not take these pills. Too painful and miserable. I don't use other drugs, alcohol, or smoke. I know it's these pills. If I don't get the answers I'll retain a lawyer. I won't be treated like an experiment. I've been taking this 20mg Lupin Lisinopril for two years previously without any problems and feeling good. This is poison as far as I'm concerned. Thank you.

Brian, I am having the same issue. I've been on this medication for 12 years but all of a sudden the pill got smaller and my blood pressure is 158/80. I just made a appointment to see my doctor about switching.

I just finished taking a 30 day supply of the new smaller 20 mg lisinopril (have been taking the older larger 20 mg pill for ~5 years with normal blood pressure and no side effects). About 2 weeks ago I began having pounding headaches, never thinking a bit about the pill size change. But yesterday I went to pick up my new prescription and check my pressure at the local pharmacy, and it was very high (149/99). Explains the headaches! I thought this was so strange, then the headaches continued and just feel strange, and a bit lightheaded. Checked pressure again and it's still high, and I am taking this faithfully every AM as I have for years. Something is definitely different about this new pill. Calling pharmacy and Dr. tomorrow to ask for the old larger generic pill again or requesting the non-generic version. This manufacturer changed something!

You're going to psychoanalyze this situation, and tell people it's all in their heads? That it's some form of mass hysteria or paranoia. That the smaller Lisinopril is the same as the larger one, and just had some fillers taken out? I am a Counselor, and I can say the smalller Lisinopril tabs have something else going on rather than a lack of "fillers." These are not up to standard and should be reported to the FDA. How hard did you say you hit your head?

I have been taking the old larger pill for years. I just took my first new smaller Lupin 20. I am also Diabetic and normally controlled insulin that never goes over 150 went to 260 today after I took this pill. I ate a salad today at lunch so no significant carbs.

I felt off all day. I could not keep my blood sugar stable. Very scary. I'm going to the doctor to ask about any potential chemical changes that would make lisonapril by Lupin unsafe now to combine with my other meds.

Scary

Started the 1/2 smaller size pill (lisinopril 20 mg twice a day) LUPIN manufacturer last week. BP went up to 140's/88. I have been on same dose, drug since 1999 and BP always 120/80. The new pill size does not seem to be controlling hypertension. Anyone else?

I had the same experience of my 20 mg refill being the size if a 10 mg tablet ... my Dr., Pharm-Tech and Pharmacist All gave me a complacent reaction and no explanation ...and googling for info, gave me a "Scare", as their were many reports of that the new Pill was causing Harm to patients livers and general and mental Health.Respoectfully I want real answers not a simple " song and dance routine"

My 20 mg are smaller also. I think if they are going to change the pill in any way they should notify us.

I don't think stress or psychosomatic caused my Crenitine levels to rise from .81 to 1.2 in two weeks. It's always been .81 for 7 years. Also, I was not stressed taking the pill. I'm use to meds changing shape, and colors. I've lost over 25 lbs so my BP should not be going up on meds I've taken for over 10 years. I don't know, but the pill was the only thing that changed, and my BP was high enough they did a cat scan for a stroke

I ended up in ER with a BP high enough they did a cat scan too see if I'd had a stroke. My BP on meds is always 130/80. That pill is the only change other then me losing 25 lbs. Also, my Cretinine number, which has been .81 for years went up to 1.2 in two weeks I was on Lupin new 20 mg. I switched to another generic see what happens
