Lorazepam's Future (Page 2)

Updated

I came across a scary situation the other day that i think most people on lorazepam might be interested in. I take 1.5 mg of lorazepam a day, have been so for 30 years. My doctor has never mentioned any problems with my medication. Then last week i got a call from her that was frantic and uncontrollable, she kept repeating i have to wean down my dosage and kept repeating if you take oxycodone i could die. It was clear that she wasn't listening to one thing i was telling her. Today i called my family doctor to see what's going on with the DEA and he told me that recently they are looking at prescriptions over 1 mg. My first thought is i should get a new doctor. The conversation with the first doc, my shrink, was as unprofessional as i have ever had and if i don't have to ever talk to her that would be fine.

What's that all about?
I have been on oxycodone, both OxyContin 80mg, OxyNorm 20mg one or two for breakthrough, (every other month hydromorphone 5.2mg) LORAZEPAM (rotated monthly with alprazolam 1mg three daily) 2.5mg four daily, and three x clonazepam 2mg daily now for 10 years plus, never been told any such thing, and it's the best and most effective Rx I ever had.
Where - which Health Board - has been recommending this and scaring people with serious pain issues along with acute anxiety, panic syndrome and epilepsy half out of their brains? This kind of stuff could CAUSE death from shock, stroke or heart attack and it seems irresponsible to me.

Horrible situation! I'm taking 2mg 3x day for the last 42 years......if i had to stop at age 78nI'm pretty sure it would kill me....its not like I'm having a wonderful life.. i still have extreme anxiety but have been able to function enough to have a life......why is the medical profession permitting unqualified politicians dictate medical doctrine?

Re: Irastas (# 23) Expand Referenced Message

yeah, you're one of the lucky ones, probably grandfathered in before the whole "opiate epidemic" now it's literally impossible to get a script like that. heck my grandfather was dying of cancer and they wouldn't give him anything besides vicodin unless he switched to hospice and i hate to say it but i think my mom killed him or "put him to sleep" because he was sleeping and saying he didn't need the "meds" but they kept waking him up in the middle of the day/night to take some large dose of opiates/benzos which eventually killed him.

but i currently take 140mg methadone and 1mg x 2 lorazepam and that's after they originally made me discontinue all benzo's to start at the clinic 13 years ago when they were owned by another company which was beyond extremely rough, now the new owner of the clinic will allow benzo's as long as you have a script, so began my journey which took me close to 3 years at 2 different psych's to finally get some lorazepam for my anxiety, and that's even after going through a ketamine program which i still attend once a month, which i will say helps with depression a bit, but does nothing for anxiety/panic attacks. so it wasn't till i told them i was going to have to leave and find somewhere else that i could get help for my anxiety they finally gave me some lorazepam. but i guess my original reason for posting was to let people know that mixing benzo's and opiates isn't going to kill you, regardless of what some "warning labels" or doctors say. there are many of us out here that mix them both on the daily and are perfectly fine. And i know that they've made it as hard as it's ever been in history to get properly treated, unfortunately, so I don't know what advice i have other than to not give up and try to find a doctor that will help. and don't be afraid of methadone either, it's a full agonist opioid so it helps immensely with pain, and actually saved my life, but that's a story for another day, but once you go through the rigmarole and get to a point like i'm at you only have to show up once a month to pee in a cup and pick up your monthly prescription. And they don't care if you take marijuana either, that doesn't effect your qualification for take homes. (if that's something anyone's worried about)
