I am 43 and have been on high doses of prednisone for over 20 . At this time I am working with a new pulmolgist trying to get me off. Can anyone tell me what are the side effects of getting of this stuff. I know the damage it's done being on it. ( I have osteoporosis ,I break bones , diabetes, high blood pressure , glaucoma, , depression, anxiety , I have had steroid psychosis so bad while being hospitalized for asthma the nurses were terrified .

Hi, Lori! Wow, you've been through a lot.
Any possible withdrawal effects will really depend on how slowly the medication is tapered. If it's done very slowly and carefully, then they should be minimal. The most problematic are usually rebound effects, so you could experience increased asthma attacks and the like, but as I said a slow taper should help prevent that.
Has the doctor set up a tapering schedule. yet?
