Long Term Effects Of Co-diovan Bp Medication
(Newest replies first)
Updated
I as put on Co Diovan BP medication 15 months ago after being admitted to ICU with what the cardiologist seemed to think was arterial fibrillation. He said it was exactly the right medicine for my problem. I have just come out of ICU again now after having a transient ischemic attack. I am now on 5 different medications. My question is could the Co Diovan which I was taking before, have had anything to do with the second problem. The specialist I saw now said no. My second question is what will the other medication I am on now do to me. I am onCarloc 12.5mg, Exforge 10 ml, Adco Simvastatin and aspirin. The cardiologist said I did not need aspirin, now I do. I also have to be very careful of any medication with sulphur in it as 10 years ago I got Stephen-Johnson Syndrome from a sulphur drug and nearly died. When ever I ask the doctors if the drugs they are giving me have sulphur in, they always say, Nol do not worry about that BP |Meds do not have sulphur in them. A few of the websites I have looked up on say they do. Can anyone help me with that aswell.

Co-Diovan (valsartan + hydrochlorothiazide) 160/12.5. Please tell me if this drug is gluten-free?
I have taken Diovan for ten years. For the last year and a half, I have suffered from a distened stomach with shortness of breath. I so not seem to be able to inhale deeply. Could this be a side effect of long term use of Diovan? I seem to breathe better when I forget my medication.
No more questions thank you.
Co-Diovan contains the active ingredients Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide, this combines and ARB with a diuretic and it is commonly used to treat high blood pressure and other cardiac problems. To be honest, your doctor is probably right, because this medication has actually been shown to lower the risk of transient ischemic attacks, rather than to raise the risk like some other medications.

Carloc contains the active ingredient Carvedilol, which is a beta blocker.
It is known to cause very few side effects, but you may experience: nausea, drowsiness, headache and weight gain.

Exforge contains Amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker, with the Valsartan you were taking in the Co-Diovan.
Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and stomach pain.

Simvastatin is commonly used to help lower cholesterol.
Its common side effects may include: nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches.

Aspirin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and in a case such as yours, it is used as a blood thinner.
Common side effects may include: nausea, headache, dizziness and stomach irritation.

As to sulfur, none of the active ingredients are sulphur based, however, without knowing the manufacturers, I can't check on any of the inactive ingredients.
What you should do for this is to make sure your pharmacy knows that you shouldn't have sulfur, they can list it as an allergy. That way, whenever you get prescriptions filled, it will be checked against that information and they will make certain that they don't give you any sulfur based medications.
