Lo Loestrin Fe And Continuous Bleeding (Page 13)
UpdatedI started taking Lo Loestrin FE on Feb. 2nd and it is now Feb. 21st and I have been bleeding non-stop (literally all day, every day). Doctor says to wait it out for 3 months... 3 months of non-stop bleeding? I've heard of breakthrough bleeding but this crazy!
I just started taking Lo Loestrin, but I'm on Wednesday of week two. 11 days into my first pack and I'm having a full on period. I also get headaches and dizziness regularly. I'm not happy.
I'm taking Loestrin 24 for 4 months now and I'm spotting for three weeks ..its normal.?
I have this problem! I carried on taking my 2nd pill packet in the hope id stop, however no luck! Ive been on for a whole month with a 3 day break if youd call it that! Went back to the doctors who have changed my BC pill again. Because of the lower estrogen contained it doesn't 'stem' the bleeding when it should!
OMG i had the same problem - halfway through the pack im no on day 6 of a full on period and I had a rise in body temperature and headaches the first 2 weeks as well
Just began my pill pack 8 days ago and have a moderate brown discharge like at the tail end of a period.. Very irritating... Been dealing with mood swings and depression since day 3. Was on this type several years ago without these major issues and currently ready to stop the pill, have my period and be off the pill.
Wow so many negative comments on LoLoestrin. Im not much of a bleeder.I just wanted a low low dose of estrogen in my birth control. Im on my white pills on the 1st pack. I had a few days where I wiped &found super light brownish red blood but not much. I wore a light tampon twice since I started the pack. Im a lil bloated &cranky but im hoping itll pass when my period starts. Lo Loestrin has got to be better than Reclipsen.
I have also experiencedoing hair loss on this pill. It's terrible I literally have about 10 bald spots all over my head.
I started lo loestrin fe birth control pills back in October of 2014.These were my first birth control pills ever. After 3 months in the pill I started noticing bald spots in my head and I got a feeling about the pills, so I stopped cause i started seeing bad reviews online. Then I went back to my gynecologist who came up with any and every excuse in the book saying that it was not the pills even though before I begin my pills I had gotten blood work done and everything had came back normal even thyroid, diabetes, and high blood pressure, nothing had changed in my diet but the pills. so I recommend if you Are expiriencing hair loss STOP right away!!!!! It's the most horrible experience I have come across in my life and still dealing with. I have seen the dermatologist who said most hair loss comes by taking medication. Which in this case was the pills. If anyone else has had this problem please comment below and share with me your experience. I still get depressed when I see my spots so any motivation would be greatly appreciated thank you!!!!!
I'm on it and have had the same heavy breakthrough bleeding problem as other women, also some bad pimples but other than that no side effects. The reason for the breakthrough bleeding is the progestin type and the low estrogen combo. It's a one-two punch. Ladies, there are dozens of studies online that this first-generation progestin type (norethindrone, norethisterone and norethindrone acetate are all part of the first-generation family of progestins) causes more breakthrough bleeding than all other types. Norethindrone is an "estrane" type of progestogen while all other types are "gonane" types. It's safe (in terms of low risk of blood clots; the third-generation progestins have a bad reputation for causing more) but does not promote endometrial integrity like gonane progestins (found in most other birth control pills and IUDs), hence all the bleeding. The other safest type of progestin in terms of not causing many blood clots is the second-generation type called levonorgestrel. There is a reason it is the most widely-used progestin on the planet. My recommendation to you is to not do anything this low dose (before Lolo, 20 micrograms of ethinyl estradiol was the lowest you could get, and again, maybe that's for a reason?) and to make sure you're on a pill that uses levonorgestrel and NOT norethindrone acetate. Yes, it is androgenic which means you could break out, but so is Lolo. Lolo is actually worse in this way. And at least androgenic pills will preserve your libido better. Do not get a pill that uses any of the first-generation progestins. Go second-generation. Avoid third-generation - too high a risk of blood clots. I'm going on Alesse tomorrow and I'm never looking back.
I started taking Lo Loestrin Fe a little over a year ago. At first, it was terrible; I bled for 17 days straight and had terrible cramps. On my second pack I still bled for a good two weeks. However, on the third pack I only bled for two. Ever since then, each month has been getting better so that now I haven't had my period or cramps for over 6 months. Although the first two pill packs were absolutely horrible (heavy bleeding, cramps, irritability, major mood swings NONSTOP) I am so happy that I don't have to deal with any of those any more. One last note: the reason I found this page is because after not bleeding for so long I just noticed slight bleeding and I am only on week two. Hope it goes away quick!
bleeding nonstop on lo loestrin! I was on it about 4 yrs after myomectomy it was a godsend, light or no period. I started spotting for about 3 months in a row. Doctor said it was due to a cyst and would dissolve. I went off pill for a month as I had unrelated surgery and went back on loloestrin expecting the same results from the previous four years. Month 3 still bleeding midmonth only heavier, periods are heavier and longer and more clots. HELP! Do I switch? go off the pill? , is it fibroids? Is it cysts?, is it hormones Readjusting? Is it something worse? No real answers from the gyn except wait it out til menopause and wear hormone patches that haven't helped , I just can't stand having no dating/social life and forget exercise. Anyone experience this ? AND did it ever stop? If so, when or what did you do to stop it? I have a truck load of feminine products I'd gladly donate to anyone that needs them that can help.
I am going throught the same crap!!! I hate it and the cramps are horrible..
Jen,
I am 39 and my only real concen is dvt/pe risk. (I am not concerned with breakthrough bleeding/androgenic activity). Being that Lo-loestrin carries a first generation progestin AND the lowest estrogen dose, would it be the "safest" of all coc's in terms of lowest risk of dvt/pe?
Very helpful I'm almost in tears! I Thought I was going to be bleeding for 3 months straight . I know there's hope so I will wait it out. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I'm having the same thing. I didn't have a period for my first 4 months on the pill and this month I've had two periods! Only a week apart. It's very upsetting
This is the best birth control out there because all that breakthrough bleeding really helps you to not get pregnant with all that intercourse you're not having.

I have been on lo loestrin for about two years, and lately took several pills late( ~2 hours) in a row. I am now experiencing spotting like a period and some cramping... Has anyone else experienced this?
i had the same problem, i bled for 2 and a half marathon months, TO ALL GIRLS, DO NOT GET THE DEPO SHOT! bet lo lestorin worked for me :)
Hi..I am on 2nd pack of Lo Loestrin Fe.They put me on it because of my bleeding, cyst in my ovary, acne, felt pms symtoms. So after 3 weeks I had a couple days no bleeding, then spotting alittle, by the end of my 1st pack, and I am going on 3rd row of my 2nd pack, I been bleeding non stop.I am exhausted, I can tell I gained weight..So frustrated..Not even sure if my cyst is shrinking..My GYN told me to come back in Feb..and its Dec 18th.I am 44..I dont need it for the birth control, just wanted to get my system normal, I am not sure if I should ask for something stronger to stop the bleeding, I read alot of other stories on how, I am not the only one, but I dont have a life, because bleeding constant with cramps and pain, I dont feel like exercising, and doing much..plus I get hot/ cold flashes during the day..like if my hormones are all mixed up..what should I do?? :(
First pack of my pills I had spotted for 12 days and had breakthrough bleeding for 2 days. Period came normally as scheduled. Started 2nd pack..6 days after that, I have breakthrough bleeding for 5 days. I'm taking this for my endometriosis. I am bleeding less than usual. (Usually my periods, I go through bunches of pads for hours..but going throughout the month? A pain..) Breakthrough bleeding days are light/normal bleeding but still a pain. I feel tired lately. Gyno says I should persist 3 packs and I'm on 2nd pack and hating this! How is this even "normal"?!
