I had a total thyroid removal in June 2014. Was 1st put on 124mg of Levothyroxine, later 112 mg and swelling in both feet and legs began. My left leg looked like a stove pipe along with my swollen feet and toes. I developed hammer toes next to my large toe. Later I was placed on the 100mcg and the swelling continued. I spoke with my endorcrinologic who told me she could not help me but to speak with my general practitioner. To make a long story short I went to a heart doctor, had a mapping of my legs and found out I had small veins. I was told I had Lymphedema and was referred to a clinic. I did not go to this doctor. I started reading others emails on swelling and started cutting my pills like 3/4 in size on 10-20-2016. As of today I lost about 5lbs in weight and my right foot looks gr...

I take Levothyroxin 100 mcg and replaced by Thyronorm 100 mg. is this comprable dosage and same effect? ## 1000 micrograms (mcg)= 1 milligram (mg) 100 mcg= .1 mg Since thyronorm and levothyroxine are one in the same medication (just different brand names), it becomes clear to me that levothyroxine 100mcg is a significantly smaller dose than thyronorm 100mg. That said, you will probably notice the difference in strength when switching to thyronorm. However I certainly wouldn't be able to tell you how this will effect you in comparison to your previous dosage, as everyone reacts to these medications differently. I hope this helps! ## Hi, I was on medication for hypothyroidism for 7 years.... Having Thyronorm 50mcg till now and with recent tests my doctor changed my medicine to levothy...

I am a 28 yr old mother of 3. I had my thyroid removed in 2004 im currently taking 100 mcg's of levothyroxine and for the past 4 months i've rapidly losst weight do i need to have my dosage lowered or increased. I feel depressed all the time and have no energy i dont know what to do i dont want to lose anymore weight i actually want to gain my weight back what do i do? ## Let me say that I can understand what you described and how you feel. I also had a full thyroidectomy and while I have not had the drastic changes you've experienced I have had weight fluctuation as well as what I would call moodiness. How closely are you being followed by your endocrinologist(s)? If you have rapid weight loss combined with depression I would call the endocrinologist and get all of the nece...

Hi, I have the flu. Last night I took some Dayquil, (Nyquil makes me sleep for days). I have hypothyroidism & didn't take the levothyroxine because of the contraindications that I found on the web. My question is how long should I wait before taking the levothyroxine after taking 15ml of the dayquil? The meds I use are just proair (asthma), levothyroxine (hypothyroidism), & vitamin C. I'd be asking my Dr but she is in the Bahamas for 3 weeks.

I have been taking Levothyroxine 25mcg since July of 2010 and have been doing well on it. I have been wondering, being that the name of the med is "Levothyroxine Sodium", exactly how much (if any) Sodium is in the pill according to the dosage amount? Being that i'm trying to watch my sodium content i'm really curious about this. I have searched, and searched on the web and cannot find the answer i'm looking for. Maybe, and hopefully I can find my answer here. ## This doesn't refer to actual sodium as an ingredient, it refers to the type of chemical salt that the medication is made from. Thus, there is no reason to worry about your pills, any elements that may be in there are just trace amounts. This has to be done, to make medications safe for people with conditi...

hi can anyone help please, im worried sick about my partner, he underwent chemo and radio therapy for throat cancer in 2011 , found out last year that his thyroid had been damaged by the radiotherapy , so the doctor put him on 50mcg of levothyroxine for one week then dose was raised from 50mcg to 100mcg within the first week of treatment then increased again after about a month to 125mcg, all was okay until the dose of 125mcg was taken within weeks he was really ill and it was everyday vomiting , dehydration, red face , and talking at an extreme rate, forgetfulness after another trip to the doctors i managed to convince the doctor that symptoms only got worse when he started taking the 125 dose, because the doctor said levothyroxide did not cause side effects, [so why do the leaflets ins...

I had a THYROIDECTOMY on Jan 2006 and was taking 50MCG levothyroid hormone ever since. I was doing well untill Apr 08 when I told my doctor that I was planning to get pregnant, she increased my dosage to 75MCG. It turned out aweful to me despite the doctor said that TSH falled into a lower safe range for pregnancy. I felt palpitation and sweatering in the first month and starting October I had trouble sleeping becuase whenever I laid down I felt palpitation and tight chest such that I had to put a pillow behind my upper back to get a whole sleep for a few days, And these symptoms scare me most because It's like haert failure, which could be a side effect of thyroxine! My BP--once measured in clinic 110/80-- scared me off because it was 90/60 for my 30 years of life and never changed...

I've been taking it for almost 2 weeks and get nauseated and don't have an appetite. ## Have you consulted your doctor? Both of those can be normal side effects, but their severity is what decides whether or not they are a real problem. Typically, they wear off in about 4 to 6 weeks of use, after your body adjusts to the medication. Learn more: ## Started on 25 mcg levothyroxine. As you know with Hashimoto's that you experience highs and lows so my doctor lowered my levothyroxine from .112 to.110 I've been on it for three weeks and now my period It has stopped and started for two weeks now. Has anybody else to experience that?!? ## Hello, Dawn! How are you? That can happen due to thyroid problems, it can throw your cycle off, some women with severe issues may not have periods, at all, for months at a time. If you're concerned, feel free to discuss it with your doctor, you should also be sure to do so if the bleeding gets very heavy, or continues for a few more weeks. The side effects of this medication may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, hair loss and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hey doctors i took A flu va...

I stopped taking Levothyroxine cold because my script ran out and I had to go to Doctor for a refill and we were leaving on an extended trip. I didn't think it would be any big deal. After about 8-9 weeks my hair began falling out at an alarming rate. I am back on 25 mcg alternating to 50 mcg every other day, after returning home and getting to Dr. She wasn't as concerned with hair loss as she was my suddenly stopping so she spent time cautioning me to not let it happen again. My concerns, how long will it continue to fall out and will it grow back? Also since going back on it I am very nauseous and have a headache, will this discontinue after awhile? I do not recall feeling like this when I initially began taking 2 years ago. ## Hello, Diane! How are you doing? Has there been a...

I suffer from hypothyroidism and have been on 50 MCG of levothyroxine and vitamin D3 5000 daily and I have had sore and tender throat and uncomfortable to touch. It feels like my throat is closing. I went to the doctor today and she said my tonsils were slightly swollen. I have never had problems with my tonsils. Has anyone had issues with their tonsils or throat while suffering from thyroid issues or on medication? It seems to be a new or different symptom every day! ## Hello, Angela! How are you? No, this medication hasn't been known to cause tonsil issues. Did your doctor prescribe anything to treat it, such as an antibiotic? It may be beneficial for you to see an ENT. ## I have always read that true diagnostics for hypothyroidism, that one has to do four evaluations: T3,T4, tsh,...

I had stopped taking the Levothyroxine for four days because I was out of town. On the fourth day I had a severe itching or like a nat biteing me all over my body but no rash. could this have been caused from suddenly stopping the medication? ## Hello, Connie! How are you? Yes, that is possible, other withdrawal effects as listed by the FDA may possibly include dizziness, headache and diarrhea. Why didn't you take a supply with you? You really shouldn't skip days of this medication.

I had my thyroid completely removed in February 2016. My TSH levels skyrocketed post surgery so I am consequently on .4mg of Levothyroxine daily. I don't feel very well nowadays - low energy, achy, etc. I would like to stop taking it. Is it safe to quit? ## Hello, Linda! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're experiencing. A lost of your symptoms are most likely due to not having a thyroid, anymore and are likely to get worse, if you stop taking your medication. When is the last time your levels were checked? You may need a dosage adjustment. The FDA lists its typical side effect as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and weight changes.

Hello, I am to start a low dose of Levothyroxine 0.025MG in the morning. I usually have my protein shake in the morning. I know I should not eat for 30 mins to an hour after drinking a glass of water with this medication. I read somewhere that this medication should not be taken with weight loss products. Not sure if I can still drink the shake and if I just have to wait awhile and how long? I know it has been said not to take this medication with lots of vitamins. Can anyone help me that might be a doctor or someone that has had the question before? Thanks. ## I have had similar questions, before and unless it is just plain water, you should still wait a half an hour, before taking in anything else, including your protein shake. Otherwise, there may be components in it that could affec...

Things came to a head 3 weeks ago and I stopped taking the drug altogether/ In the first week my strength came back in my muscles, I began to sleep again and my consciousness was much heightened. But then I slowly went downhill. On day 13 my voice almost disappeared, my neck muscles had tightened making swallowing very difficult and walking was very bad. I filled a prescription for Levothyroxine Sodium 75mcg from Combitic Global, but these look nothing like the American version. They have no markings but the outside blister packs do say levothyroxine sodium 75 and give manufacturing dates etc. They don't look like synthroid. It's a little concerning since I take drug panels and don't want to take something illegal and certainly don't want to know I wasted my time on something dangerous or completely useless. They are round and rounded in the middle and yellow. I haven't taken them yet. Anyone have any experience with these?
