Levothyroxine Side Effects (Page 25) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI was recently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I have been taking levothyroxine for almost two weeks. For the last four or five days I have had a weird feeling. It is hard to explain. I don't really feel dizzy but I get a strange feeling in my head. I guess you would describe it as a head rush. Has anyone else had this feeling and will it go away as my body adjusts to the levothyroxine?
Ok, so Im almost 18 and i've been diagnosed with hypothroydism since the 4th grade. usually its not found til youre in your 30's or 40's so that sucks for me. i still get head rushes almost everyday and i can feel my heartbeat slow down every once in a while but y doctor says its nothing too serious. but im pretty sure he's full of sh*t so maybe you should talk to your doctor or wait another month and you'll be able to tell if you need a higher dosage or lower just by feeling it.
can the mediation levethyroxine affect the memory my partner has been on the treatment for nearly 11 weeks and has developed a slight memory disorder causing her to speak half sentences and being forgetful almost like drunk .which is very frustrating..noticed by myself and family members...the doctor said the treatment would bring her levels back to a level of feeling herself again but is far from it- from what i can tell- especially after 11 weeks..is showing no signs o improvement apart from eating better and her body temperature has went from stone cold to extreme hot. she lives her life as a non energetic couch potato who has no get up and go - her interests are 0.0 in anything...her thyroid problem was discovered after taking a ceasure ( epelectic fit ) which she has never had in her life is there a link- that thyroid problems causes epelism as well would apprciate any information on my subject.....brian
Just saw my Dr this PM. Told him I have been having palpitations since I started Levothyroxine 125mcg last July 1 and I wake up each morning with a terrible headache. He told me to adjust to 100mcg. I hope I feel better this time. p.s. Just had total thyroidectomy with radical neck on May 3 and my RAI 131 from June 28 to July 1.
I have been switched from Armour Thyroid to Levothyroxine. I am now suffering with stomach inflammation and the only change in my pills and diet is this pill. Anybody experience anything like this? Also for the head rush people, your problem may not be the main ingredient but a reaction to the fillers they put in too. I had a similar problem with blood pressure pills and had to try about six different brands before I no longer experienced the strange head problems.
I have been taking 75MCG of Levothroxin for about a week and had a severe allergic reaction after 1 hour of being in bed. I have had allergic reactions rarely in the past and the real cause has not precisely been determined. Usually I take 2 Benedryl and within 15-30 minutes hives and tightness in breathing and tingling in ears subsides. But not this time. My tongue and roof and bottom of my mouth swelled so bad I could hardly speak. After 30 minutes of taking Benedryl I used a EpiPen shot. This took more than a few minutes to arrest the increasing pressure and swelling. After 6 hours of sleeping I still feel swelling in my tongue and mouth. I will call my Dr. today.
OMG, ARE YOU SAYING IT CAUSES HEART PROBLEMS?
As most of you are finding out, taking medications has a very temporary effect. Instead of trying to manage your symptoms with a drug (only for the doctor to be satisfied because your blood test is normal, even though you aren't) you need to find a doctor that addresses the cause of your symptoms not simply your symptoms. Look for a functional medicine doctor in your area.
Hello all. I found out back in June that I have an under active thyroid. I actually found this out first my my financees mom who had done iridology (reading of the eyes) and told me exactly that, and that my body was overworked with stress, ph in body not balamced. And the list goes on. Anyway, I started taking supplements because I do not like taking medications. I was starting to feel better somewhat.. however, I then felt really ill and decided to Get blood work, and they told me exactly what I already knew.. under active thyroid. Of course they wanted me to go on medication, which I have yet to call them back to tell them that I am not. So I have been taking supplements since , however I do see that it gets worse after my period so I have added iron to my supplements. Now, things have changed, and I feel it has gotten worse .. I started feeling really depressed lately, fatigue and just no desire to do anything. I decided to get checked out again by my fiance mom. She did her iridology thing and said some organs are healing and cleansing for to supplements I am taking but she still sees to much stress, ph not balanced, nervous system overworked..
Since my ph is not balanced, meaning to much acid in my body, my body can but absorb theses supplements I am taking like my body should be. Therefore, I am now on a strict diet, plus taking my supplements.. she also ordered a supplement called laminine, which is suppose to help with a lot. Only time will tell. I wanted to share my story because there are other optins.. I have yet to feel my normal self but I have hope and prayer that this will work.. medication is definitely my last resort. P.s I'm sure I have tons of misspelled works or in correct grammar.. I wrote this on my phone and really quickly:)
Hi Mumsy...if you felt OK on the lower dose.. go back to it until you feel right again then increase your dose slowly..... if you feel uncomfortable about this ask your doctor if you can take it more slowly 50mcgs is a big jump... You may even need to increase it by 25mcgs on one day a week until you feel ok then 2 days etc etc..... This is what I did (and kept going back a bit each time I felt weird and only updating it monthly cos it takes about 6 weeks to balance out each adjustment)... It's taken me 20 months to get it right (and I need a blood test to check but I'm avoiding it)... I feel good, have lost some weight and got my libido back so as far as I'm concerned I'm sorted..... hence blood test avoidance.... Anyway if your doctor is reluctant either go it alone or push the point with him.... he shouldn't mind as you're more likely to comply and take them if you feel ok. Hope this helps... NFWE
They gave me levothyroxin because my thyroid blood tests came back as low, I had been through some emotional trauma, and was suffering from being tired. I started taking the drug, Itafter 2 weeks I was feeling great, all kinds of energy, then after that aI began having hand tremors, heart palpitations, joint and back pain. I stopped taking the medication almost 2 weeks ago, but am still getting more symptoms, gum and rectal bleeding, severe back and joint pain, headaches, hot flashes, night ssweats. It is horrible to trust your doctor and have him make you feel this sick.
I'm 27 and been on it 3 years I'm always on emotional roller coaster it's awful :( iv lost friends and a partner due to mood swings! Luckily my new partner has been very understanding
OMG!! I too have had pain in my jaw and cheek and assumed it was a result of Fibromyalgia. Maybe it is this med. I also have severe hot flashes/heat intolerance/sweating spells. It is terrible! I also have GAINED a signifigant amount of weight. I thought I would lose weight. Btw, I take 50mg.
I too have this strange feeling in my head. Its like my brain is spinning. I also have started having panic attacts, memory problems, suicidal thoughts, and anger. I dont feel at all like my self before the meds. I am currently taking 125 mcg of levothyroxine. I think my dose is too high. I explained all my symptoms to my doctor and she wants to give me anti depressants. I know i dont need those. I dont know what to do. I feel like nobody listens. I wish i could just stop taking the levothyroxine. Are there any other alternatives?
I went to my doctor a few months ago and he said I needed thyroid medicine, so he put me on 50mg. I took it for 5 weeks and I felt like my head was dizzy and I couldn't think, like my brain was shorting out. Then one morning I took it and 2 hours later , I was sick, throwing up, my vision was so blurred and double , I could not see anything, I could not walk, was confused, didn't know where I was. My husband put me in the car and drove me to hospital, I couldn't even get out of the car, didn't know where I was. I was in hospital for 9 days, they ran all kinds of test, still was not getting better, so they decided to send me home since the sickness had stopped, but I still am having the confused problem, dizzy can't walk by my self, blurred vision, pressure in my head and neck. They said it has to be vertigo, but it has been 7 weeks now and no better, I think it was the thyroid pill.
I seem to have this weird buzzing feeling on an off in my face and hands. Hard to describe ? I started on 75 mcg from 50 mcg I took for 5 years. My doctor told me to take more really for no reason. Now I'm back on 50mcg. Starting to feel a little better but still getting buzzing sensation sometimes. Anyone else?
hi everyone, I'm so glad I found this website. I thought I was the only one that was feeling dizzy/tipsy from Levo. I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroid because my tsh was 4.63 and according to my doctors note, the range is 0.1-4.5 so it says it's "slightly elevated." Anyway my doc prescribed me 25mcg of Levo. let me say before I get into my symptoms that I really didn't know I had hypothyroidism because the the only real symptoms I had of it was that I noticed i forgot certain things I knew I should've remembered (and I usually have a very good memory). I also noticed once in awhile that is be a little more tired than usual and that my libido went from 100% to about 50%. Lol yes u can laugh at that part. :P
anyway, so I've only taken one Levo pill so far--- I took it 30mins before I ate breakfast. the first 3 hours was fine... but then I started feeling extremely tired, then changed to mad, irritated, sad, anxious, nervous, nauseated, back to being tired. and for the rest of the day my mood kept continuing to change. I ended up falling asleep late (I'm surprised I even fell asleep). the next day rolled around and I woke up with a headache like a hangover. thought the day I felt tipsy like I drank alcohol, of course I didn't. on to the next day, same thing, woke up with a headache and felt like I was tipsy. Today was actually the first day I woke up without a headache. but I currently still feel like I'm a little tipsy.
When is it going to go away?! The feelings I mean? you're all probably laughing that I'm feeling this way after only one pill and it's only 25mcg. hehe it's ok, I'm actually quite sensitive to meds that are strong like steroid type meds and corticosteroid inhalants. I just would really want this feeling to end. I've also been having some slight pain in my chest, kinda like heartburn. it can't be a heart attack or stroke becuz I've already been to the er twice for diff reasons but they checked my heart and I've had a cat scan n all that crabby stuff and I'm fine.
I've been looking up alternatives for this med becuz I don't think I can tolerate it. I do have to work too, so it's even a bigger challenge to stay up at work.
has anyone gone natural as far as trying to treat heir hypothyroid by eating the right foods or pills from a whole foods store?
This is horrendous! Your dose is probably somewhere in the middle of the dose you are being offered. You do not have to take one standard pill, let's say that there is a standard pill at 125mcg which makes you sleepy but the next one up is 137mcg but that makes you hyper (palpitations etc), you can get any dose in between by mixing these two values. I used to take 130mcg by taking 125 except for two days a week when I took 150s which rounded down to 130mcg which was perfect.
Please try this out with your doc, it sounds as if you are in-between standard doses and s/he should be able to work this out. If s/he can't you should look for another doctor because this is pretty basic.
I had been taking thyronorm all along for about 2 years, but now I'm in a new country and I could not find thyronorm 75 and had to take levothyroxine 75. It's only been three days and I have insomnia, a severe headache, hair loss and vomiting. I am having a really hard time. Can anyone suggest me any solution?
I was prescribed levothroxine 100mcg felt horrible on it and stopped my doctor is very upset with me said it was something else bothering me. I felt better not taking it. Do not know what to do.
I had hypothyroidism for over 10 years. I don't remember any dizziness or strange feelings in my head, but it did regulate my menstrual cycle (which was out of whack for years). My doctor told me it was normal to not have any side effects. I was on the RX Synthroid as well as both of my sisters. You have to wait to eat at least an hour after taking the tablet, or take the tablet 2 hours after eating. My sister's doctor said that soy affects the thyroid levels so try to avoid soy; many things have soy or soy additives in them. Check your labels. Ask your doctor. You might consider talking to your doctor about switching you to Synthroid. Don't stop your meds without talking to your doctor first. The thyroid can affect your joints and can cause all kinds of problems. I suggest you let your doctor know of these problems. If they don't listen or you aren't satisfied, seek an endocrinologist.
