In December I was diagnosed w/ cataracts in both eyes (I'm only 54). Two days ago I heard an ad on TV for Nasonex & it mentioned cataracts were a possible side effect. I used Nasonex for a few months a couple of years ago & I just bet it's the culprit behind my eye problems. Anyone else in the same boat as me?
Cataracts caused by steroids grow in a different place on the lens of the eye to old age cataracts. You are talking absolute rubbish.
This is crazy. I have been diagnosed with Glaucoma 2 years ago. It came from no where. Never anyone in my entire family had that nor I had ever heard about that before. I have been diagnosed 2 years after my first use of Nasonex. It took 2 years before getting my OP stabilized. I am on Lumigan right now. Then my doctor just prescribe me Nasonex again because my allergy are as bad as 5 years ago. Took it twice and already start to have some issue seeing and just found out about the effect! I am really pissed... no one told me. How can my doctor prescribe me this?
Since taking Nasonex have developed cateracts in both eyes and exterience weight gain!!
Yes I saw a Retina specialist 2day march 19 2014 and he asked had i used any. Nasonex
I've been using nasonex for only 2 days now. And i just felt better. But after reading all the side effects about this nasal spray now im confused. Should i stop using nasonex now? Before its to late?Pls i need some friendly advice. Thank you so much.
I found I had developed a cataract in my right eye in late 2012 at age 58. A year later I was put on Nasonex for rhinitis. I have now developed a second cataract only 4 months after starting to use Nasonex. In addition, and simultaneously,I am experiencing flashing light in the left eye when I look to the right or up.
Yes took nesonex for few years blood presurd was very very high. Could not hsve dentel work done. Then was dig whit clacoma 4 years ago. I seen sd on tv and trurly brleave it'd because of nasonex also.
A year ago I was told I have glaucoma by the eye doctor. I have since learned that no one in our family but myself has had glaucoma. Now I learn that the medicine nasonex that I was prescribed can cause glaucoma. What can I do about this? Anyone have any suggestions?
I was getting severe headaches nasal congestion. Nothing worked. MD gave me Nasonex. Worked great and got cataracts both eyes in a year. At 46 Just done with both surgeries; neither went well so out of work longer than expected. Being an RN in a hospital,i had to see well to be able to practice safely for my patients. The reason i missed longer than expected. Had to wait for new script.
There is nothing out there to decrease swelling and help drain sinuses without drying except nasonex,or steroid based med. I have tried everything including that natural sinus flushing kit,it all bombed. Nasonex works well, but i hate to use it. I surely hope there is something new to come out soon. If anyone knows of a better way, please tell. Take care all!!!
I see a couple comments with people in their 60's , lots of 50's and a few in their 40's complaining about cataracts. Was 29 when i was told i have cataracts which is half the age of most people on here who complain because they are too young. But yes, i took nasonex off and on for a couple of years and now believe my catracts was caused by the use of nasonex. I have often thought about a lawsuit, but never really looked into anything.
I took prescription Nasonex for many years for allergies, and was not warned about possible eye problems. I had cataract surgery in both eyes at age 48, but no one asked me if I was on any type of steroid prescription. This was 6 years ago. I no longer take Nasonex, but noticed that the television commercials now warn of possible cataracts. Had I heard the warning back then, I probably would not have taken this medication.
I am 43 years of age and I had no prior vision problems. I wore glasses only for driving at night (for distance). Recently I renewed my drivers license and did not pass the eye exam. Worried, I made an early annual optometrist visit and my optometrist was beside himself at how quickly I'd lost my vision on my right eye from one year to the next. I was referred to an opthamologist who was surprised that at 43 I would have a cataract, but he immediately knew to ask: "Have you ever taken steroids?" My reply was "Yes, Nasonex, Flonase and Prednisone, for nasal and skin allergies." There you have it! Some people have told me, "so you have cataract no big deal!"... Well although it is common for the elderly, on a person with a good twenty years of work ahead of them, like me, it is a damn BIG Deal! For a working person your vision is everything. Shame on the pharmaceutical companies who push these drugs and shame on the doctors who without hesitation prescribe them.
I used Nasonex for 7 months straight and developed cataract in both eyes. One eye surgery was in 2011 and I just had the other eye done in May of 2013. My eye doctor thinks for sure it was all from the Nasonex spray. I am 47 years old.
Yes, I didn't have glaucoma until I started using nasonex, I don't use it anymore, when I found out I can cause glaucoma
I also have cataracts...I used Nasonex for nearly 4 years ..I tried to stop using all medications with steroids, after a nurse friend of mine warned me about the dangers... and the cataracts have stopped progressing.. even when doctors insisted I should use them... I have refused..yes, I get bronchitis, and I have Asthma...it gets so bad I use a nebulizer...once or twice a month...,we need more information about these drugs....before we start using them..
CAN A SPECIALIST TELL IF STERIODS LIKE NASONEX DAMAGE THE LENS OF EYE IN A PARTICULAR WAY THAT MAY PROVIDE SOME PROOF OF WHY NASONEX CAN CONTRIBUTE TO EARLY CATARACTS TO A LARGER POPULATION THAN THE DRUG COMPANY IS TELLING US.
My wife was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. At the age of 42 after using nasonex in the past. Does anyone know if there is talk of a class action suite.
Yeah, I had fast growing cataracts after a couple years of Nasanex, which led to removal and lens replacement, which led to two detachments and two tears. It's probably not over for me. I got the cataracts in my late 40's , and surgeries into my mid 50's. I was convinced that Nasanex created the cataracts long before the FDA made them include cataracts and glaucoma in their warnings. I was so convinced, that in 2007, I searched websites in the UK, and found that the cautioned against these effects, but the U.S. at that time did not warn. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars and suffered greatly.
I'm with you Susan. I'm 54 and undergoing cataract surgery - they said I have an aggressive form of them. Also retinal issues and tears. Could this be Nasonex that I've been using for over 5 years! I just too saw the warning on TV about this side effect and never saw it before.
Naxonex is not a steroid.
