Legal Suit Against The Makers Of Nasonex (Page 5)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

In December I was diagnosed w/ cataracts in both eyes (I'm only 54). Two days ago I heard an ad on TV for Nasonex & it mentioned cataracts were a possible side effect. I used Nasonex for a few months a couple of years ago & I just bet it's the culprit behind my eye problems. Anyone else in the same boat as me?

"Money", "Money", and in case you didn't hear me, " "Money". Now, I would think if enough of us who have had bad reactions and long term, life affecting reactions from these medications turned the tables and had an affect on their pocket change, I can most assuredly believe that the medication would at least not be given as freely without heavy thought and consultation behind it. Perhaps, the F.D.A. might even look into this more thoroughly as well. Just know that any kind of Steroids, although they can work wonders on some medical problems, can have very bad side affects dealing with cataracts for one and joint health among other difficulties as well. Many things I guess we are damned if we do and just as damned if we don't.

I used Nasonex for years. 2007-2010. When i started using no one mentioned the possiblity of cataracts. April of 2010 diagnosed with cataract in my right eye, May of 2011 diagnosed with a cataract in my left eye. Have not had any surgeries to date, however am going to have to do something soon. Both eye doctors that diagnosed the cataracts asked if I was using any medications and i stated Nasonex for allergies and they both said that was probably the cause. why is this drug on the market with such bad side effects and not really explained very well until the last year or so??

MAYA: We all have damaged eyes, but your case is the worst reported in this site. You also need money. Would you be willing to launch the class action suit? Someone has to be the first complainant. Just call one of the following three medical class action attorneys and direct him/her to this web site for clients.

I am in shock. I have been in a fog for the past week, trying to digest the news that I have both cataracts AND glaucoma, and permanent loss of 3/4 of vision in left eye, and glaucoma has only destroyed a small portion of right eye. I was immediately put on 2 drops to try to lower the pressure and STOP the progression of the glaucoma. Doctor said nevermind the cataracts, we have to try to halt the glaucoma.

The side effects of the two drops are horrible, eye pain, headaches, tiredness, and vision is even more blurry. Like you, my work just covers my bills. My savings were small, and the two trips to opthamologist have already cost me 737.00!!! And, I have to go back in 3 weeks to see if drops are working and have more tests done.

I NEED my sight for my job. I have to drive. I live alone. I am alone in life. I am 57, husband of 30 years left me for younger woman, and with that came loss of medical insurance. I am praying new job insurance will help me out, but it is 1,500. deductible and they are not replying, as of yet.

I used both Flonase and Nasonex for years and years, to control my allergies. I was always told the steroids were such low dosages that they would not cause problems. (I was worried about aging the skin around eyes as steroids make skin fragile. NEVER thought of BLINDNESS???

My Mother lived to 92, my Father lived to 70, and my 4 siblings are older than me, and NONE ever had eye problems!!! No nieces, nephews, or cousins with eye problems.

I am scared. I have been googling/researching everyday and night, when not working. I am exhausted. I cannot sleep, only worry what will happen to me if vision loss cannot be halted. Could not sleep this morning, had only 4 hours sleep, and just laid there awake, so thought, might as well get up.

Was too tired to do anymore research. Made a cup of tea, and turned tv on for background noise. And, then I heard it...a ad for Nasonex touting it's benefits, then suddenly the fast talk of side effects...MAY CAUSE CATARACTS AND GLAUCOMA. What?????

Just now got online and googled 'Nasonex Cataracts and Glaucoma' and came right to this site.

Now what? In the last week, through my own research, I have also started several holistic approaches, as well as several vitamin/mineral supplements, and I am not done, yet.

I am disgusted my doctor acts like..."you have grade 2 cataracts in both eyes, and glaucoma has taken 3 quandrants of your left eye vision, and the top of 1 quandrant in right eye. Here are your drops, don't forget to take them. You do realize this is serious, right?" And, that was that. No information, nothing, they (his staff) act like I am a pain in the ass because I call with questions concerning headaches, eyes burning, and yeah....what type of glaucoma do I have??? They called back and said Open ended. They did however take CASH for the office calls, and said they would refund whatever my insurance does pay.

Anyway...I am rambling on. Obviously, no one to talk to on the matter and I am scared of what will become of me.

One more thing, my health is excellent, and although I am 57, people guess my age as 40 - 42. I have been practicing anti-aging since the 1970's. The eye doctor was shocked to see such a mess in my eyes, with no family history. I did not wear glasses, except readers of 1.5

38 year old male diagnosed with cataracts at age 35. Been using nasonex year round for past 10 years or so.
Had one cataract removed. The other eye I am waiting as long as possible. Very hard to get off nasonex after so long. Any suggestions? Got lots of eye floaters too which sucks!

I too was diagnosed with cataracts after using Nasonex. In my case, I had them in both eyes. I had surgery on one, but after I stopped using Nasonex, the other eye actuall got better. This all happened before Nasonex started warning about cataracts in their commercials. If anyone out there has experienced the same thing, I would gladly join you in any fight you would want to engage in. To Sarah's point, I was 29 years old at the time, so tell me again how its just age that is causing these problems.

I think Sarah, that It's not just Nazonex any more that can cause these problems with eyes. Just read some of the warnings that are now put on inserts. Many people don't even read these warnings...not a good idea ! You May want to read about meds that you May have to take in the future or matter of factly taking now. Have you heard at all about how many people are killed by meds in hospitals each year given by doctors ? Wake up Sarah !

The reason most of you have been diagnosed with cataracts is because almost everybody over 45-50 has some degree of cataracts. Cataracts are a typical aging change. Wearing sunglasses is not a requirement after you have cataracts. It's just a really smart thing to do. Intact, it will help to slow the progression and if you had worn them before you would have developed cataracts later in life since they are the result of sun exposure. And the reason you now have to wear bifocals has nothing to do with nasonex but everything to do with your age. We lose our ability to focus up close and 40 is the magic number. Know your facts! And michelle, I think you meant to say the risk DO outweigh the benefits If they didn't, you would have no reason to take him off it.

Well, I am another one. I heard the TV warnings just hours after returning from my eye doctor, who said the cataract I had slightly develped last year had spread remarkably fast and now requires surgery. I've been using Nasonex sporadically for two - three years.
Go figure.
Even if we can't find an attorney ready to mount a challenge, at least warn your families and friends.

You can submit your adverse event to the FDA medwatch program or have your medical provider submit the adverse event online.
Was dx with cataracts bilaterally age 46 which progressed to require surgery after using Nasonex for 3 year.
Have had one surgery will have the other next month.

What if you used Nasonex AND Flonase? Doesn't that defeat your case against either one?

I'm 44 now and back between the years of 2002-2005 I was prescribed Nasonex for allergies. The only eye problem I ever had was that I was near sighted. Now here in 2012. I have to have bi-focals & 2 out of the 3 markers for glaucoma and damage to my optic nerve in my left eye. I've been told by my eye doctor that when I go out in sunlight I have to wear sunglasess now. I never ever had to do that before. I had no clue at all that Nasonex could cause glaucoma & other eye problems. There is no family history of glaucoma or cataracts and other eye problems in my family. When I heard what it could cause on the television ad a few days ago , I was shocked. I can't believe that I could lose my eyesight because of this drug.

I used Nasonex for a few years in my 40's for chronic sinusitis. First cataract surgury was at age 49 and the second at 50.

You are right, we're all just guinea pigs!

This is infuriating! Nasonex has destroyed my life! The whole left side of my face is numb and headaches, which I NEVER have. They WILL pay! Sue them yourselves for as much money as possible. We are guinea pigs!!

My wife is 60 years old and other than wearing glasses (for about 50 years) never had a problem with her eyes. She was recently diagnosed with cataracts. Over the past year she used Nasonex. We don't know how to prove that Nasonex caused the cataracts but we have no other explanation.

Here are three DC attorneys who specialize in medical class action suits. Someone else please take on the cause from here! We are all damaged, and doctors continue to prescribe these sprays for mere colds and allergies.
