Januvia And Gout

I recently began taking Januvia and in less than 2 weeks later I got my first case of gout. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I have just been given a prescription for januvia. I notice that one of the side effects is an upper respiratory infection. I am having a knee replacement in two weeks, and I don't need to have an infection. What has been the experience with this?

I was put on Januvia two days ago and I now have gout in my wrist.

First off, let me state that this is NOT what would be considered a drug interaction, a drug interaction occurs when you are taking more than one drug at the same time and the two (or more) of them together cause adverse effects.

If this type of problem is caused by the drug, then it is considered a Side Effect.

That said, I can only recommend you speak with your doctor to see what is causing your Gout problems, this is not listed as a side effect of this medication and could be something that you were prone to getting, even if you had never taken it.

My doctor just put me on Januvia, half a dose a day, and within days, I had my first experience with gout in my left foot. She told me to stop the Januvia and she would research to see if there were side effects caused from this drug. I am also researching and immediately found your similarity.

dear brother i can tell you you re not having troule out of the drug or side effects, your dr should have told you that gout is caused by hi levels of uric acid in your body, caused mainly by large comsumption of red meat protein or alcohol products [ beer ] , dr can prescribe 2 drugs 1 neturalizes acid, the other reduces immflamation , gout is so painful that there is no pain reliver that will do any good best releif i found cool foot baths an lotion or baby oil for temp local releif, gout is also a sign that your immune system may be weak, other ailments that may show up as you age exzema, psoarisis, take a few goldenseal capsule supplements 1000 mgs, they good for indigestion system, an like spring tonic, goldenseal was 1st major herb used in usa for ulcers, mouth sores, p.s. gout takes 7 to 10 days with medical treatment to run its course

gout can occur in any joint in the body but mainly attacks foot, you may have a wash womans cyst, or bakers cyst can t remember which 1 which 1 is in wrist, the other is behind knee, they usually disappear an are not very painful the just swell up an are annoying as you feel an see them, they will dissappear in usually 2 weeks

I began taking Januvia about 1 month ago and take only 1/2 of a 100mg pill, due both to the cost and that my blood sugar is not that high. I now have gout in my left foot. I have never had gout before. Moreover, I eat a low purine diet and am (semi) macrobiotic. Brown rice, vegetables and a little dilute miso are staples, with a little white meat chicken and eggs on occasion. As I select the majority of foods from the alkalizing category, I can only suspect Januvia as having a role in my recent gout and joint problems.

I have a history of gout. No attacks in a long time. I took a Januvia yesterday and have a serious gout attack in my foot/ankle today.

can you immediatly stop taking Januvia 100 mg,i have far too many side effects and the sugar has jumped higher.thankyou

I have been on januvia100 for about 2&1/2 yrs.Generally, I used to have the tablet 1/2 an hour before lunch.As a result,my blood sugar is very much under control(135-140)pp;only when I take very heavy lunch,my pp goes up to 145-160.Fasting is also very much normal.My question is whether I should discontinue with januvia 100 OR, reduce the strength to 50?

I started januvia last friday I have a horrible upper respiratory infection and had to cancel dental work. I am so sick after 4 doses I do not advise until you have your surgery.

I normally control type II diabetes with diet and exercise, but at one point in 2010 my A1C was a little higher then desirable, though still under 7%. I took Januvia for 21 days and had such a horrible gout experience I stopped. Merck would not acknowledge or refund me, even for the remaining 9 pills (at $6 per pill). Researching the net I found 3% of people who take Januvia develop gout, but you will not find that in the list of side effects or cautions. A simple 100 person study would have shown 3 people with gout. Your bad, Merck.

I was prescribed Januvia 50mg a week ago and within 5 days, I had gout in my left foot (big toe and ball of foot). I've never had gout before and the pain was unbearable. I stopped taking Januvia yesterday and the pain has already started to subside. I called my physician who said she had no knowledge of gout being a side effect of Januvia - but from researching this topic (and first hand experience!), I've seen several correlations between gout and Januvia. I think more studies are warranted on this.

I just started taking Januvia and my gout pain is the worst ever . The pain and inflamation is there for the last 4 weeks. NEVER had this kind of lingering pain and inflamation ever. Will stop taking Januvia and see.
