Is This A Fluoxetine Pill? (Page 4) (Top voted first)
UpdatedA109 20 mg dark blue oval capsule
I've was taking the Sandoz manufacturer of fluoxetine 40 for years (white with two orange stripes) and then my pharmacy changed to Aurobindo (orange and green) and my symptoms got way worse. I'm trying to find a pharmacy that carries the Sandoz brand, but I'm having trouble doing so. A lot have changed to the Northstar mfg which from what I read is awful. One carries Teva and another carries Par. From what I've read, Teva sounds like the brand I should probably try, but I wanted to see if any of you have ever been on the Sandoz brand and if there were other mfgs that you felt were similar to it.
My experience has actually been the opposite....I'd been on the Northstar Fluoxetine 40mg for several years and it worked well. I did get heartburn if taken in the morning, but found that taking it later in the day and with food was OK. I recently switched pharmacies and got Aurobindo and within 3-4 weeks felt a sharp relapse of the depression. I'm wondering if maybe the problem is not the manufacturer but the composition of the capsules.....the active ingredient of a generic legally must be identical to the brand name, however fillers and inactive ingredients may vary, and I'm wondering if its just the change that upset my system. I'm switching back to the Northstar and will wait and see what happens.
OMG! I am so glad I found this site! I am an emotional mess, and just realized that it's been about two weeks since my script was refilled with NOR. The pharmacy said they have been having trouble getting the one I was used to in stock. And I had to pay the WalMart price for it since my med. assistance won't cover that brand...now I know why - so many problems! This happened once before and I was not sure if it was due to the different manufacturer or not, but now I'm convinced. This is horrible - the FDA should know about this and do something. I went from just getting by to barely functioning and a puddle of tears. At least I already called the doc's office and let them know, but whenever I get back to the old brand, I know it will take a couple of weeks to recover. What a waste! And I guess I will have to that one script filled somewhere else, even though I love the WalMart pharmacy I go to for everything else. Thank you all for sharing - it's reassuring to know it's not me, but the medication.
I have been taking Fluoxetine 40 mg. by Par Pharm, which I got at CVS. Recently I switched to one manufactured by Ranbaxy Ph and seem to be feeling better. I found this post because I was curious if the capsules were actually the same. The Ranbaxy capsule (green & orange) is also smaller than the Par Pharm (white & blue) and is easier to swallow and I have less medication reflux.
Oh yes, the Ranbaxy Ph capsule is from Target.
I only have minimal insurance through the state - kind of medical assistance, I don't get brand names either...TEVA is another manufacturer, not brand...sounds like your pharmacist is doing what my doc said he would do, by writing "do not fill with Northstar." For "mental health" scripts I have to pay $2.50, for other meds it's zero. The $10 I paid for those stupid Northstar pills was the Walmart discount price, since my "insurance" would not cover that brand." So I paid out-of-pocket for something that made me worse! At least they filled it at their discount price.
Desperately Seeking Sandoz,
If you are absolutely unable to get Sandoz (also my manufacturer of choice), I've found Teva to be very comparable to Sandoz for one month when I had no other alternatives. However, I have some good news for you. My doctor wrote for 'No substitution, Sandoz pharm medically necessarily' and my local Rite Aid special orders that mfg for me. There is no shortage anymore of Sandoz (as I've said earlier in this thread, I work in pharmacy), and Sandoz doesn't really cost the pharmacies any more or less than other generics, with the exception of Northstar and Qualitest (I don't even know if Qualitest makes a generic fluoxetine, but that is why so many pharmacies are switching to these two manufacturers).
Also, as an update, the FDA has FINALLY started to raise their standards for generic medications. A lot of manufacturers are being pulled off the market for their quality not being up to par (I'm not talking exclusively about fluoxetine here, but I could look into that). But for a lot of drugs, many manufacturers are having their versions pulled off the market because they don't work as well as they should when compared to brand-name versions. It's about time, I say
MY PROZAC IS PLIVA,INC NEVER HEARD OF IT. I HAVE USED MYLAN ONE FROM INDIA I WOULD NOT TAKE IT. ALSO WITH MY XANAX GOT A DARK BLUE ONE UNUSUAL IT WAS FROM INDIA. PURPAC MADE ME SICK. I DON,T LIKE THE PILLS I TAKE COMING FROM FOREIGN COUNTRIES SCAREY TO ME. NEVER HEARD OF NORTHSTAR. ALL THESE PILLS SO MANY MANUFACTURES YOU DON,T KNOW WHAT YOUR GETTING ANY MORE.
My pharmacy filled my last prescription with the Northstar A-106 brand. It did nothing to improve my anxiety but instead made me feel like I had jumping beans in the legs. I was so hyper I couldn't get still to sleep. I also couldn't sleep due to the horrible heartburn and reflux. The first few nights, I was awake trying everything from hot tea, to drinking a bottle of maalox. Even after stopping this new brand, the symptons continued for about a week. I returned this medication back to the pharmacy and they ordered the brand I had been taking prior to this brand (Northstar -A106) .
Jane,
I am currently taking Aurobindo's version of fluoxetine. It seems to be prety ineffective. I'm looking for TEVA, but am having a hard tome finding it. Any suggestions? Thanks
I believe that RiteAid carries TEVA or Walgreens. I can't quite remember which one but I think it was RiteAid.
Last I checked, Rite Aid carried Teva, Walgreens carried Aurobindo and CVS has Par. I will check at work tomorrow but overall, Rite Aid is the most flexible of the three when it comes to ordering specific manufacturers.
my son was taking aurobindo/fluoxetine but this time they(walgreens filled it with teva instead which is better
Yes!! And only with the Northstar! I either open the tablets and mix the powder into juice or just make sure to take the pill in the middle of eating something and with lots of liquid.
Only recently did I decide to check the lower right-hand corner of my prescription to see the manufacturuer of my generic Fluoxetine. For as long as I can remember, I have been on Northstar, which I now know due to the color of the pills/markings on the pills. I was on 20mg per day for about 5 years and 3 and half weeks ago, I was upped to 40mg per day because it seems as though I finally suffered from "Prozac Poop-Out". I just got a new prescription filled yesterday and come to find out it is the Aurobindo brand (green/orange 40mg capsules), a brand I have never been on. I just took the first pill of Aurobindo this morning (about 30 minutes ago), so we'll see what happens. Can anyone out there tell me, in their opinion, if Aurobindo is even slightly better than Northstar? I've been hearing a lot of negative things about Northstar, but like I said, it worked well for me for the past 5 years or so, until recently. I am also on Seroquel XR 150mg at night. My pharmacy is Food Pyramid (formerly Albertson's).
Thanks in advance.
I have been on a low dose of Aurobindo for a year now, but Walgreens filled my Rx last month with Sandoz and I've noticed a significant difference! After a week and half of emotional extremes, mood swings and the inability to sleep, I realized it is the Sandoz! Had zero problems with Aurobindo, but can't find any pharmacies that carry it as Walgreens has stopped. Found Teva at Target, but contemplating asking my doctor to restrict any generics before buying the Teva if it is similar to Sandoz.
Got Northstar the last time from mail order pharmacy and it is not working for me. Did a little research. TEVA bought out Barr and Pliva is part of the TEVA group of pharmacies. The local pharmacy carries Pliva. I will be getting the Pliva.
I wrote in back August 1, 2013. I switched from Teva to Northstar and had horrible stomach upset. I just wanted to let everyone know that I've switched back to Teva (manufactured in Poland for Teva by Piva Krakow 20 mg twice daily and the problem stopped. I still do not like any SSRIs but I'm working with my Dr and therapist to reduce and eventually quit their use at all. I called and reported the adverse reaction and a case was opened... so the FDA is aware! :-) Best of luck to all.
Just got a new prescription for Teva fluxotine. 20 MG.Very strong chemical/plastic smell in bottle. Is this normal?
Some TEVA lots have been recalled, If you notice a strong odor from the bottle then it's a good chance that yours is one of the recalled lots, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANYMORE OF THESE, Take them back to the Pharmacy and request a different lot number that hasn't been tainted. I am also on the generic
