I have been taking Triamterene and I ran out, but I can not afford to go to the doctor just yet, my mother takes Lisinopril and she told me that I could take a few till I can get to the doctor but I was afarid that they might not be made up of the same thing and I am afraid to take it because of the risks of any side effects from taking a different medication then the one priscribed to me, but my ankles are swelling pretty bad and see spots. I know its just because I need to take my meds but I am not able to go to the doctor for a while because of my money situation right now.

Well, they are not made up of the same thing, these are two completely different medications, although both are commonly used to treat high blood pressure.

The Triamterene that you normally take is a potassium sparing diuretic, that reduces the amount of fluid in the body.

Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor and works in a completely different way and really won't do anything to help with your fluid retention problem.

It can, however, help to lower blood pressure.

The problem with these medications, when you run or stop taking them abruptly is that you experience a rebound effect, your blood pressure will bounce back up and you will start retaining fluid, again.

You do really need to figure out a way to see your doctor or go to the emergency, so they can see you and write a prescription.
