I've been prescribed fentanyl 50mg pain patches and i was just wondering if it's okay to cut one in half an chew on it?

Suboxone AND buprenorphine?
Maybe you mean buprenorphine and nalaxone?
Suboxone is a formulation of buprenorphine with a small amount of nalaxone in it.
Subutex is just buprenorphine alone.
Buprenorphine is pretty strong stuff anyway. It has an affinity for the opiate receptor 30-40x's that of Morphine...several times that of heroin.
It DOES have some street value. I've been on it off and on for years.
Works like a charm to prevent WD. It also competitively inhibits any other opiates from working on you too, but don't think you're in the clear just yet.
You have to let go of your desire to get high from now on. The bup really helps a ton.....but its still up to how bad you want to be clean in the end. Its not magic.

Hey ya man I know, it's either that or first what I'm going to tell him is to try the new OxyNeo?, they say you can't abuse it & my desire is HUMUNGOUS!!!, I'm moving my GF down to live w/ me from Manitoba & as long as I'm not W/Ding then I'll be good. I don't want to get high off it I don't even really feel a high from it?, it just makes me feel normal you know?, I'm going to see my Dr. tomorrow & get him to try those out on me for a week & see. My GF is to thank for my stopping dealing of heroin & using of hard opiate Narcs. I'll do w/e it takes now to stop just don't want the WD's ...

I can't believe you would even admit to being a nurse after all the stupidity you posted on this comment!!! any nurse would know that it is possible to die from touching any transdermal medication if they have an unknown allergy to it. So if you want to critisize for bad advise, you should critisize YOURSELF!!!!!! it sounds to me like you are the one with an addiction problem and probably take your patients pain medication and make them suffer so you can get high!! people like you make me sick!!! I know I am commenting on a post that was done 3 yrs ago but I still had to comment and get this off my chest!!!!! Please do EVERYONE a favor and keep the comments to YOURSELF!!!!!!!!

Don't you worry about HOW ANYONE "Else", Bedides YOURSELF , takes THEIR Meds!! How other ppl take Their Meds has Nothing to do with IF other ppl get what They Need for Their Pain And IF by chance Your Dr will NOT give To you what Meds You Want = has Nothing to do with HOW others take theirs !!

If anyone of you did Not have YOUR Meds Tomorrow when you woke up You WOULD CRY. & cry like A friggin Baby So do NOTNOT Be My Judge & Jury here. Not one of you have that Right !!! I have worked my entire Life till I could No Longer. Now I Am On Disability & I HATE It. I hate the pain. I hate the life. I hate having To ((((((. I've been on Fentanyl patches going on for 5 1/2 yrs. All my injuries are due to an automobile accident. I have always, used the same hospital and drs. @ UAB. To me, my opinion, by always using the same hospital & drs. f/my care, pain medication has never been an issue. I stated once before on this same topic of an unfortunate mistake I made w/the patch one a.m. Haven't done that again and all is well. I spoke out about the danger it did to me, therefore, that's all I can say on the matter and not judge. Getting the back injections every 3 mths and having Fentanyl along w/other strong medications prescribed has never ever been an issue. I choose to use a family owned pharmacy (THEY GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO HELP ME) and make a point to keep Fentanyl in stock whether I'm in the order.

It doesn't bother me in the least that I'll be prescribed this medication the rest of my life. I have yet to experience the high that so many talk of though. Too me it was like, Pain Be Gone !!! Though I would be telling a story if I said RARELY when it gets close to time to apply another patch I do feel some anxiety. Though I'm prescribed Oxycodone for break.through pain.

Please know for those of y'all w/whatever ailment you have for your source of pain, I hope it never comes down to US not being able to obtain the medications. I have been told time and time again by my doctor, and AS ONE POSTER SAID,"It's quality of life"......

One more thing, I really enjoy coming here and reading y'all's comments. Though pain is -0- fun; it is nice to know you aren't the only one out there going through the same things y'all are. ...

This IS A SCRIPT I GET! Who said I go to the streets. Read more And you WILL SEE I have A Dr. I have spoke With Many Times. There is NOTHING stronger than what I get now. There is NOTHING MORE MY Dr can Do then what He Is doing Now! Pain management specialist. THEY Can't Do anything either. Been to them more times Then I can count. Same answers. Live with It !! So I AM LIVING & DEALING WITH IT MY Way & My way IS WORKING. !!!!! I am NOT Hurting NO One !! I KNOW What I am Doing! That's ALL that matters ! I am NOT A DRUG ADDICT. I SUFFER PAIN Likr the rest of you ppl here. I just deal with It differently. So What !!!! Been doing this for Yrs now & as I said I Know what I am doing. I will NOT Die !!! I am NOT Causing No one To Not get prescribed Meds by how I do mine That's BS Talk here. The End !

FYI a lot of these patches were recalled for falling off and due to accidental death as well . check the site yourself .No I was not warned by my doctor or pharmacy . To think I might have thought something this tragic could EVER happen is just ridicious . I suffer from M.S. and the fentanyl patch was given to me from my pain doctor with out any info and sorry u could think such a thing about calling my story B.S. is just sick to me !!!!!! I'm just here to ask people to be extremely carfully with this medicine !!!!!!!

@nobody unfortunely my pharmacy did not do the Required education on the product:( And my sister-in-law who was my primary doctor said nothing either. You're right it was an accident I just want people to realize how serious and harmful it can be . When I asked the pharmacist about the patch he stated this is a good one So much for him giving me the education. I just hope other doctors will sit down and discuss the issues with the patient first and make them sign paperwork. I also found out my patch was recalled for falling off. Maybe they need to be make a better adhesive Or some kind of covering for the patch. My assumption is that it must have fallen off and somehow attached to my son I will never truly know since they did not find the patch. I have to live with it forever .

I'm so glad somebody (you) spoke true on this matter. It makes me so incredibly angry that people misuse medication especially pain medicine. The pain management offices and Drs now start treating everybody like their just drug seekers because of the people that abuse narcotics. We the people that actually have real pain need this medicine but we must first jump through hoops and prove ourselves innocent and legitametly really are in pain and in need of help. And to have the Gaul to get on one of these message boards and ask crap questions like how to chew a narcotic because you're not supposed to is comparable to a rapist asking if it's ok to wear condoms or not on a message board for people to post that have indeed been raped. So al of you addicts stick to your street drugs and ask your low life dealers these types of questions. Leave this for the important questions for people that actually need medicine.

Only I patch in the hot tub and you stop breathing ? - , I use 3 - 100mcg patches daily and have been in a hot tub wearing all 3 and had no reaction what so ever...

WOW! I read almost every reply and all but maybe ten were not worth the time it took to write them. I Have a Masters Degree in Social Science and have worked with addics for twenty years from prisoners that could care less to the upmost religious God fearing kind that can not stand being addiics. I myself have struggled in the past but it was not worth the pain I caused myself or others to continue. To the addict that asked the question: I do not judge you at all I would bet the farm you are the type that gets your pain meds and are out of a months supply in a week and find the rest off the street when your out hoping to God you can avoid the come down. Not my problem but I hope you get help or stop and use your pain meds correctly, I guarantee your life will be better. Anywho, the fact is cut the patch in quarters or less depending on the dose do not swallow chew softly and keep in mouth for at least an hour then dispose. Try in small sizes first then move ahead as wanted. No you will not die because I feel you take enough pills that you are fine. If you have no experience with pain meds and are playing with the idea, do not do it- period. Enjoy your high but I know from experience you will run out of drugs no matter how much money you have and you will have to come down, have fun with that.

Well Fentagurl, she took the time to post it on a public forum, I don't think she is too shy about it....do you???? And IF it's true, she did so because she intends to let others know just how dangerous it really is to chew Fentanyl. So, I don't think asking how much he chewed is too "insensitive". I'm no little kid, and I know all about LOSS. How long have YOU been around, how much have you experienced of life? If SHE thinks it was insensitive, then let HER tell me, otherwise stay out of it Fentagurl.

The 50 patches gave me blisters - and the pharm tried diff brands but they all did that - after 4 months of telling a nurse - what it was doing - they finally changed back too pills - and then kept messing up on the scrypt - even one time sent it with-out the mg's on the scrypt... They hated me - not doing the patches - - yup the stomach wanting to throw u was back - but hey atleast - I wasn't paranoid about OD-ING

I have the same patches, if you don't have a tolerance, chewing a half patch that is brand new will probably kill you. I chew 1/5th - 1/4 patch at a time. Lower size if i haven't worn it and it's a fresh one. I suggest putting the patch on your skin and peeling up a small bit at a time and chewing on that while you still have the patch on your skin to release the drug gradually so as to not make it SO strong. Plus you WILL become an addict. You'll be physically addicted within literally under a week. Be careful with these, even if you have a high tolerance/experience with opioids. it is extremely powerful and addictive. Don't be cocky. And certainly don't eat a half at once. That's 4mg you're taking at once, that can easily cause an OD. Tread lightly. good luck

I agree 100% ,I've been on fentanyl patch for about 5 yrs. I was on 100 mg about 2 yrs ago but was getting ready to have major surgery & my dr was afraid that they would be able to control my pain afterwards. So we decided to send me down to 25mg before surgy...I have been on the 25 for almost 3yrs. Now, but I have been prescribed it for 48hrs. Instead of 72 he's. Because they just don't stick to me!!! I have tried everything from band aids to surgery tape & still nothing! So I cut them in half ,then cut them into 8-10 stripes for each day & chew them ..I don't feel like I'm abusing them because I'm not cutting them in half & chewing the whole piece ! I'm chewing I strip @ a time for about 15 mins. To 1,hr. I would love some feed back

I down to my last 25 mcg/h patch from 120 30mgs oxycodone and 50mcg/h every 48hrs. Can't find a doc to see me before June. Many stopped taking my ins.like my last past doc. I lost them due to wanting to be off the patch so I weaned down to this and hopefully I'll be okay for court on Monday (not my case but a friend) doc n I talked it over and agreed to cut it in half to 25 but when she said three days, I said 'sure' thinking same as before: put on one day, keep on next day and take off the third day! She meant 72 hours and I freaked knowing I would skip seeing them a month waiting for my ins. change. Nurse kept asking her for early refill which I DID NOT ask for and that helped get me dismissed. No oxy in urine helped further. I went from 50 every 48 hrs.down to one patch every other week! Yes I used the oxy to accomplish that but now know I can get by without the patch! Happy 420 to y'all in legal states. Might be time to break a few laws....but will wait till I finish buccing a piece of my last patch
