Hi. I am having a procedure done and am being prescribed vicodin. I am currently on suboxone. I WILL NOT take the vicodin unless I am in excruciating pain. Would suboxone help with the pain? And if I do have to take the vicodin how long should I wait to take it after taking suboxone? THANKS!

Also taking opiates with subs can cause withdrawal effects as well.

Hi, I've been on subutex for over 5years now and I've had procedures and things done in that time that required some opiates that were temporary and also approved by my subutex provider and they okay it. Because even if your on methadone or subutex or suboxone you will still feel the pain for me just as intensely as anyone else. And even though 2 of those have blockers in them the opiates prescribed for pain still are greatly more affective at stopping severe pain it just won't give you the buzz it used to (which is also really good)! Now I could have a whole bottle of lorcet in front of me and I wouldn't be bothered by it but I'd be wanting one if I was in sever pain again! So don't feel bad if you need to take one it's safe especially if you do coordinated care with it with you suboxone provider and counselor! Thanks for listening and have an always amazing day.

Oh this is silly, there are people who use Suboxone for Pain, I just because it doesn’t help you doesn’t mean it doesn’t help anyone.

Wean slowly. I was on 16 mg but my doctor has lowered my dose 6mg in 8 weeks. It changes the way I felt. It actually just made me feel less numb but in a good way (like with my libido & affection, my feelings). Wean when you feel like ur doing well & ur recovery is strong bc addicts will tell themselves that having less & less Suboxone will be negative and we can't handle it but we can. We are strong.

Some people actually are prescribed Vicodin and suboxone together for some pain conditions, I was just reading on it. I don't see how that would work if the suboxone nullifies the opiate effect. It really helps with pain in the person I know taking them. They take them for pain though, not recreationally, maybe you just don't feel high...

100% agree, I am currently on SUBS for opioid addiction and I can state for a fact that before I started SUBS my addiction doctor said you just need to be off of any other opioids for 12 hours. I did just that and I never got sick at all and it worked just fine. No Vicodin for 12 days but I am stopping the SUBS because it is not intended for long term use seeing as most opioids are out of your system in 2 weeks. The longer you take subs the more difficult it is to get off of them it's an absolute scam and a money pit that they do not tell you about subs are highly addictive and the withdrawals are way worse than any other opioid if you're currently on subs to get off of opioid addiction do not take them for any longer than 2 to 3 weeks or I promise you will regret it in the long run

Hi, I don't know if you still need help but I am in a detox program and they gradually bring you down. Til there is 1mg. You have to do it slow. Today is my day 4 and I'm on 16mg today. Tomorrow I will either be 16mg or 12mg. They take 4mg away at a time I believe but I will get 16 mg for a couple days then 12 mg for a couple days. It works.

Hi, I just got all my teeth pulled for dentures and I am currently on Suboxone. I was scared of the pain and asked my doctor what I should do and my Suboxone doctor told me to continue the Suboxone while being on the pain killers. How the f*** does that make sense?

You need to take vicodan with sub 48 hours before stopping suboxone take while surgery is healing. Then wait 24 hours b4 taking suboxone of you will go into PW. And suboxone works great on chronic pain but not surgical pain

suboxone is a gift if used to detox from other opiods. however, the way the docs do it today is not okay with me. my experience has been that the doctor (and i've tried a couple trying to get them to help me) way over prescribes the amount of suboxone needed and then continues to prescribe the high dose for months. in less than a week i am thru the worst of the opioid withdrawal, but the doc refuses to lower my dose. the particular doctor whose supervision i am under now is a self proclaimed addict in recovery (not from opioids, from coke) and of course is certified to dispense suboxone (this education, i assume, is provided by the drug manufacturers and therefore, in my opinion, is geared at selling as much of their drug as possible.) pharmaceutical companies are our biggest drug dealers...and we are supposed to feel safe because the prescription is from an "educated" doctor. and they are pushing these drugs and making $$$ from our pain. suboxone detox is far worse than detoxing off opioids. In my opinion it's all about the $$$. the first time i took a suboxone i did the opioid withdrawal in less than a month. the second time i tried following as prescribed...and of course, being the addict i am, i continued. i am thoroughly addicted to the suboxone (i appreciate the reminder given by a post that yes, we can od even if we aren't feeling any euphoria.) i am in a pain pill/suboxone viscious cycle. i am in pain...left side shoulder, back, lower back and a torn meniscus. i take vicoprofen which is much better than the acetaminophen. however, there are other oxycodones out there with no ibuprofen or acetaminophen that come in 5, 10, 15, and i think 30. for an addict, having it pure is a difficult choice, but it is far better than f*****g up my life and kidneys with acetaminophen and ibuprofen. since i don't seem to be able to get it pure at least i ask for the vicoprofen. why aren't we informed there are alternatives? it's only my opinion, but i think it has to do with $$$. whatever happened to the HIPPOCRATIC OATH?

Just have them up your dose of subs until your pain level goes down. I've took both for pain and realize that the subs are much more effective then the Vicodin or Percocet.

To the person with the Roxi I would wait a full day or it won't help...I'd anything it would be the placebo effect..I mean u don't have to take my advice as a person with 6 years under my belt I would just wait to be on the safe side or it will be blocked..then again everyone is different I'd it was the actual sign I'd wait but I'd it's a tex u should have no problem.

I am on suboxone and I had a tooth pulled. The dentist gave me percocet even tho I told him I was on the suboxone. If you are going to take the Vicodin do not take the suboxone at all because you will not feel the vicodin. Its an opiate and suboxone is an opiate blocker.

I'm having surgery the 13th of this mth. I'm on soboxone 8 mg a day. I ask the nurse should I stop taking it 24 hrs b4. So they can treat my pain properly she said continue on what you are taking. And a pain management dr will talk with u....so does that mean they Wil not treat me???? I'm worried and I don't want them to think I want pain meds but how will they treat me???? Help plz!!!
