Is Soma A Narcotic Muscle Relaxer? (Page 2)
(Newest replies first)
Updated
My doctor has told me that that soma is a narcotic and she does not want to prescribe it to me any more. I suffer from chronic back pain as well as muscle spasms. I have tried other muscle relaxers as well as anti inflamatories and none of then do not work. Soma is the only one I have found to work for me without making me sleepy. Any information you can give me i would really appreciate.
Thank you,
Dana
Re: EDDY (# 65)
Yes, Soma Compound with Codeine IS classified as a narcotic, Soma... JUST Soma IS NOT a narcotic
Welcome to our pharmaceutical system, 40 years ago, no one even new what Soma was including me and it was prescribed to me for the first time. And as usual our forces at be have to interfere and screw things up for everyone. THEY ARE PRESCRIBED FOR A REASON! When will people learn. Another good drug taken off the market. How many more will they do before chronic pain patients have nothing?
Sometimes it makes me wish that everyone was in chronic pain and let's see if Soma and the other good products would be taken off the market.

Jerk. You call that help?
For those that say Soma (Carisoprodol) is not a controlled drug, I give you the following from Wikipedia. The same information can be found at any website regarding the federal classification of this drug. This refers to the Standard version. Not the compound with Codiene-Just your basic run-of-the-mill Soma:
Until 12 December 2011, when the Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) issued the final ruling placing the substance carisoprodol into Schedule IV of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), carisoprodol was not a controlled substance. The placement of carisoprodol into Schedule IV was effective 11 January 2012.[27]
Carisoprodol is available generically as 350 mg and, more recently, 250 mg tablets. Compounded tablets with acetaminophen and codeine are also available.[28]
Re: HOUSE (# 60)
She was asking because she's a liberal snowflake thinking everyone is racist now??
Re: HOUSE (# 64)
Soma Compound with Codeine (carisoprodol, aspirin, and codeine phosphate) is a combination of a pain/fever reducer, muscle relaxer, and narcotic pain medicine used to treat pain, muscle spasm, and other symptoms related to injuries or painful muscular conditions. Soma Compound with Codeine is available in generic form.
Re: Eddy (# 9)
So sorry slick but no! "Soma compound" just has asprin in it... last time I checked asprin is not a narcotic! You're welcome.. HOUSE
Soma is a controlled 4 drug. It didn't use to be a year ago but alot of people started to take it again and the DEA controlled it again
Re: Abigal (# 4)
Soma is NOT A NARCOTIC! It metabolizes to meprobamate in the body, NOT a narcotic.
Re: Lisa B (# 54)
Today's date is 2/1/2019 and here's some more info I found online re: Soma or Carisoprodol from the DEA or the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency: (PDF)
"The onset of action of carisoprodol is rapid and effects last 4 to 6 hours. It is metabolized in the liver and excreted through kidney. The major metabolic pathway of carisoprodol involves its conversion to meprobamate, a drug with substantial barbiturate-like biological actions. Adverse reactions may include central nervous system related effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, tremor, agitation, depressive reactions, severe withdrawal symptoms and insomnia."
And there's more:
"The American Association of Poison Control Centers reported a total of 6,463 carisoprodol case mentions, 2,558 single exposures and two related deaths in 2012."
"Medical Examiners Commission Reports released by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement indicate that carisoprodol/meprobamate related deaths in Florida decreased from 478 in 2011 to 326 in 2012.
However, the number of reported deaths related to carisoprodol/meprobamate was greater than some opioids such as heroin, fentanyl, or oxymorphone in 2012.
Control status: As of January 11, 2012, Carisoprodol is a schedule IV controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act."
Re: Missy (# 53)
No, she was referring to Junkies!!! why are you asking?
Re: HOUSE (# 58)
It could be in a couple of States on the C 2 List. As we know its not a narcotic, but Soma can be mixed with Narcotics as 'Soma Compound'
Re: BL (# 16)
Sorry but no, Soma IS NOT, NEVER WAS a narcotic. Also it is NOT a schedule 2!
Medical marijuana works great for the spasms. Get your card. Also no addiction issues!

I totally agree. I think that Soma or Carisoprodol is getting a bad rap. This is a quote from Ty:
It's a drug that works on specific areas of the body if any doctor tells you different get a second opinion.Examples of soma use might be arthritis, degenerative joint disease. Soma is not really that addictive because it is a water soluable drug so it is out of your system in 48 hrs.Soma is not a narcotic and has received way to much negative publicity from doctors and patients who have no idea about this med.
Re: Lele (# 47)
I would like to know who you were referring to when you stated "if the *****s".
WHAT are we suppose to do . The family doctor is passing the buck saying soma is a narcotic so what is a person to do.
I have chronic back pain also and some is the only thing that helps me too. No doctors will give them to me either. They only give me 1 a day, what a joke Pain Management clinics is. People in severe pain has to sit in a pain clinic for 3-4 hours for no help or relief at all. Most people going to my pain clinic looks like crack heads. (Just my opinion.) I had 3 major back surgeries, my last one in May ( in San Francisco) and still no relief. Well he ( my surgeon in San Francisco is awesome) did fix me to where I could stand up straight again after 2-1/2 years of being hunched over. It's all a damn money racket. I said I would never wish my pain on anyone but, I sure hope some of my doctor and pain management doctor feels my pain one day.
