Is Klonopin Just Another Name For Valium?
(Newest replies first)

I was just wondering if it was the same as volume or if there are other components that make it different and what is the difference between the two. I take it for panic and anxiety attacks and I am thankful for it. It does make me very tired. A lot of times I sleep but I really wanted a drug that would help me with my problems, yet allow me to be awake, active and try to live a normal life for me, husband and children. Can you give me some information and suggestions on other medicines that might be what I'm looking for. Thank you for your time and help.

Hi...have you tried writing to the company directly to ask? I'm not sure who has it now, as it's so expensive I never took but generics. I spent so much out of pocket on my other anti-seizure Rx before it went generic. I'll see if I can find it, but you be sure and check as well.

I don't know from seizures. I take it for anxiety, like everyone else I know who uses this drug. Also, I didn't pull that 1 mg Clonazepam = 10 mg Valium out of the air. it is a pretty well know equivalency, and anyone who's interested can Google the matter. Also, they are not 'two different animals'. They are both benzos, and Clonazepam is significantly stronger per mg than Valium, your personal anecdotal experience notwithstanding. Drs who specialize in helping people wean themselves off Clonazepam usually transition the patient to Valium, as the higher milligrams per pill make titrating the dosage easier. There is a whole community regarding this. With 20 yrs on this med I'm surprised you never heard of it. As I said though, it is geared toward Clonazepam as an anxiety treatment, and the 10:1 ratio is pretty well recognized.
Re: Train4006 (# 3)
I take it for a seizure disorder, along with gabapentin. And for over 20 yrs.
I did try valium for the first yr long onset of it, and it helped. But by NO stretch does 1 mg Klonopin/clonazepam = 10 mg Valium. Two different animals. Similar in affect, but that mg comp is way off.
To those used to very expensive name brand, or now discontinued Teva version, ACTAVIS brsnd works fine for me. And I am very sensitive to generic changes.

Re: Dystonia patient (# 4)
Klonopin is not 1 mg = 20mg Valium. More like 1 mg Klonopin - 10 mg Valium
Re: thejuice009 (# 2)
First time I have ever heard clonazepam being 20 times stronger than valium.

i think you mean valium, and the active ingredient is diazepam, more of a muscle relaxer...Klonopin, or clonazepam is an anti-anxiety, anti-siezure..1mg of clonazepam is equal to 20mg of valium..hope this helps...good day to all
Hi Naomi,
Klonopin is a brand name for the drug Clonazepam.
I wanted to ask you a couple of questions, can you please post the answers?
1) Do you know what the active ingredient in Volume is? If it is Clonazepam then it's pretty much the same as Klonopin.
2) Where did you get this medicine from? More specifically, which country did the drug come from? It may be marketed as a different name outside the United States, which explains why there is not much info to be found about it.
Thanks!
Roy
