Is 3 Days Of Suboxone Enough For A Mild Percocet 30 Mg Eight Month Addiction (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been takin only up to 30 mg of percocet a day for the past eight months, I know that don't sound like a lot but I tried to quit and couldn't handle the withdrawals so I bought five suboxone 2mg and I'm wondering how I should go about treating myself, I want to be done with this, my life has turned upside down. Please help
I took a half of a suboxone 9 hours ago will it be safe to take a opiate today?
I just went through this EXACT same thing. To a "T". I went and got 1 (one) 8mg subutex and took the smallest speck you can imagine and waited an hour before taking just a tiny bit more. About every 15-16 hours basically only as necessary! And only enough to make the worst if the withdrawals go away! Yeah I had a bit of the runs and my head felt weird, nothing tasted the same and I felt like I got hit by a truck but it's now day 15 and I don't need subutex or the percs! HOORAY! YOU CAN DO IT! I still have 1/2 of the 8mg subutex left. I flushed it down the toilet and I'll never take another pain pill again. NEVER!! SO HAPPY I'M FREE!
I only use suboxone for the first 3 days of opiate WD, 2mg day one, 1.5mg day 2, .5mg day 3(morning), a couple benzos day 4, then nothing.... just willpower/ the hard part
Well i ended up getting back problems like 8months ago n started to take 30s for the pain but i dont like to take them constantly because they r to expensive n i i hate the addiction. My back also goes thru periods where it doesnt hurt n i dont need the percocets, but soon found out that the withdrawl is really s***ty. So i talked to a few friends n heard about taking subs for 3 days as a detox. My habit was worse than it shld of been n i was taking anywhere from one and a half to 3 percocet 30s per day for a couple months each time. When my pain stops n i dont wanna do them anymore i grab two 8mg subs. I take 3/4 the first day, a 1/2 of one on the second day, and 1/4 of one on the 3rd day. I have noticed it gets a bit harder each time i do it, but i just upped the dose a little bit to: a whole 8 mg pill the first day, then 3/4 the second day, and a half the third day. I dont like to take them for more than three days because it can give me sub addiction if i take them too long. But sometimes if i still feel a bit crappy i take a 1/4 of a pill on the fourth day. I get no withdrawls when i do it this way n i can sleep. I might get a bit of anxiety here and there but thats about it. I am not a doctor but this is what works for me. All i can say is wait for withdrawls to come before taking them n dont take any opiates for a wk n that shld make it easier. I dont know if this will help anyone but i figured id lend some of my experience
My husband takes perc 30s and subs for a couple days then is on percs again then switches back to subs. Is this bad?
I stopped using percocet 4 per day for a year and a half. I quit cold turkey for 14-15 days I don't even know. It was the worst he'll of my life. I could not get any better it never ended I put up the fight. I went back to the doctor who told me I should have tapered off. I went back to 1.5 a day for 3 days and quit again. Another 8 days of he'll. Now I am using 2 per day split into halves. I can finally work get involved with my family etc. I have had plenty of the pills each time, but wouldn't take them. Now I am thinking I'm going to go through this he'll for a third time in a few weeks.I am sticking with the plan and in 3 more weeks should be done. Am I going to go through this again. Also the mental guilt is killing me. Any advice
Im down to 3_10mg percs a day been on pills 4 years i tried jumping from here but can't handle the withdraw i got subutex i was wondering if i take that a couple days if all be able to get off i tried tappering off percs but can't get any lower
Cut the pill in 4 equal pieces, take 1 per day in the morning. You really do not have enough Subs to really be effective but even the 1/4 of the pill per day will make a big difference. Your 3rd and 4th day will be your best because of the 1/2 life of Subs so the most amount will be in your system. Day 5 may be a little rough but day 6-7 will be harder. Remember one thing, you must no matter what deal with the mental aspects of stopping, that is the most difficult
Hey, how have things worked out since your last post. It sounds like I've been having similar experiences. Not excessive use, but extremely hard to stop.
don't be an i****, why take Subs if you want to still use Opiates?
Hi Huntingmomma, It,s not good. It,s addiction behavior. I,ve done it myself.
If your husband ever decides to get clean and he can,t seem to stay straight or the withdrawalls are to bad he can allways contact a sub dr. and get on subs the right way then taper off them the right way. I,m on subs now but before I went to sub dr. I was acting the same way as your husband. It,s not good for the body to be mixing pain meds and subs. Subs alone are probably not very good for the body but I find it better than the crazy rollercoaster ride of mixing pain meds and subs.
Thank you
Well I had the same problem as many on here I was doing 5-10 roxy thirties a day for about a year then found out my wife was preg. So I decided to man up and kick this addiction I found 4 8mg suboxone the first day of withdrawal symptoms so i took a whole one the first day then a half every day until I was out with barley any withdraw symptoms at all besides a little fatigue the mental part I could handle cause I was determined to quit but it made it so easy to come off the Roxie's.. Suboxone saved my life and my relationship.. The main thing is you've got to want it for yourself and say you never want to go back down that road ever again.
To taper you start on the lowest dose possible to be comfortable. Then stay at the same dose for the next 2 days. On day 4 reduce by 25% and keep reducing until .5mg then stay there for 3 days. Reduce again to .25mg and stay for 3 days. Then skip a day and dose .25mg again. Skip next 2 days and dose .25mg then jump off. That is a quick and least painful short taper. Remember - start low, begin to taper - jump off at .25mg
My husband has been an on/off addict for years after an accident, however we have only been together 7 years. I have never been a user or enabler..... he started last year, we split up for over a year and recently started seeing each other again because he detoxed from percocets "or so I thought". Anyways I believe he was clean for a bit, but his eyes bust him every time, so he fessed up and said he took 10 oxycodones at 8mgs in one day and also pieces of subutex. I have many questions cause I have never done these things, how bad is this? His breathing is where he also uses a inhaler. I am so worried, I am supportive to help him, but at loss of words!!! He does maintain his life well, treats me great, never mean, works beyond most men, never abusive to me, so it's hard to let him go!!! Any help to explain this would help!! Desperate.
In reality, Suboxone is probably far too strong of a medication to be used for this, it is generally only used for people with severe addiction problems, that have been doing drugs and steadily increasing the amounts of them that they've been using for years.
Doctors are also specially trained in the use of Suboxone, because the initial dosage has to be carefully calculated, to prevent withdrawals and then slowly tapered, over time, to enable someone to become drug free. For some people, the tapering process can take months or years, which would require much more of the medication than you have obtained.
You also can't take it, until you are actually in withdrawals, because Suboxone contains Burpenorphine and Naloxone and the Naloxone can throw you into withdrawals.

Heather, all people are different, but you have kind of a "hamster" like habit for Suboxone. I'd probably just try tapering the Percocet, if you have enough pills. Say cut by 5mg/week. In 6 weeks, you're done, and I don't think it will be bad at all. But people below have used Suboxone for a quick detox. Sub is addicting as hell, but not in 3 days, and it stays in your body for a long time, which probably just slows the Percocet withdrawal.
Important. You have to be in moderate withdrawal, or worse, before taking Suboxone. This is NOT because of Naloxone. That will only come into play when IV'ing Suboxone, and that's why it's there. Buprenorphine (Suboxone's main component is what's called an opiate agonist/antagonist). Oxycodone is a pure agonist, while Naloxone is a pure antagonist. Naloxone is a miraculous drug for ODs, it practically brings people back from death (really the brink of), but unless IV'ed, it won't do anything. Buprenorphine alone, will throw you into withdrawal, if you still have Oxycodone in your body (and clinging to your opiate receptors). Barely anything clings to Opiate receptors better than Buprenorphine, so suddenly replacing the Oxycodone with Buprenorphine (Suboxone basically), will make you sick immediately. Wait 24 hours or so. Until your feel terrible. Then maybe try taking 3mg the first day (You'll feel beeter immediately, IF you waited long enough -- be in withdrawal -- be sure you are sick), then 2mg for a couple of days, then then 1mg, 1mg, 0.5mg, 0.5mg, which is your 10mg, then done and see how it goes?
People don't understand this: Suboxone rips other opiates off your opiate receptors. If you are addicted to a strong opiate like Oxycodone, you will go into a "precipitated withdrawal" and be in full withdrawal mode instantly, and be really sick for 12 hours or so. BEFORE TAKING SUBOXONE THE OTHER OPIATE MUST BE GONE. SO WAIT UNTIL YOU IN AT LEAST MODERATE WITHDRAWALS. BUT ONCE YOU ARE ON SUBOXONE TAKING ANOTHER OPIATE IS MO PROBLEM. IT WON'T ROP SUBOXONE OFF YOUR OPIATE RECEPTORS. SO YOU JUST WON'T FEEL ANYTHING (Or very little).
I've been taking 4 to 6 5/325 oxycodone a day for over five years. I am tired of wasting my life and money to this addiction. Today I ran out and is so afraid of detoxing. Someone gave me one 8mg/2mg patch with the instruction to cut it into 3 pieces and dissolve a section under my tongue each day for three days and I Will not have w/ds. I did not know that I should have been starting to have w/d before I took the first tab. Now I am afraid that something bad is going to happen like I will start to have those symptoms and I don't know what to do. Are there any thoughts that might help me?
Switching to sub (the smallest amount that you can by on), AFTER you are in withdrawal, can be easier, because of Subs longer half life. Taper over a couple weeks from there. But I agree with you, I see so many people that have a small percodan addiction (30mg/day), and get put on BIG doses of Sub., with a goal of NOT immediately tapering. A few weeks of that, and they REALLY have a problem.
But no, the Naloxone really has nothing to do with the precipitatated withdrawals. Buprinorphine, is a mixed agonist/antagonist type analgesics, and that combined with its STRONG binding affinity at opiate receptors, will immediately replace all of your pure agonist Opiate, and won't immediately be strong enough to act as a substitute, and the result (I've heard, is a horrific "precipitated withdrawal"). And you're screwed. If you take more of the original opiate, it won't be strong enough to kick the Buprinorphine off.
The Nalaxone is really only effectively bioavailable via IV. Even Sublingually it's bad. It's there to supposedly prevent intravenous abuse. I think it might be mostly advertising. Naloxone has a really short half life, Bupe has a really long half life. So if used intravenously, the Bupes going to end up on your receptors relatively quickly anyway. Naloxone has a great binding affinity for opiate receptors, it's saved many lives from OD. So much so that a Suboxone overdose is very difficult to treat. Naloxone will almost magically bring a H OD victim back from near death within minutes. Not so with Suboxone, because Bupe binds very strongly too. If used intravenously, they'll compete. Anyway, I've heard that for non current opiate addicts, Sub is very IV'able. The Naloxone that makes it to your receptors will only block the Bupe for a very short time. But Sublingually, for normal use, it's supposedly a non issue. If it weren't, it would keep you in withdrawal, instead of letting the Buprinorphine do it's thing.
percs are evil and I can't wait to feel normal again!!!
