Iron Infusion Side Effects

I just had my first iron infusion yesterday. While i was at the hospital everything was fine. Now im havin chest pains and diarrhea is that normal?

Hello, I had 8 iron infusions of ferillicit (sp) in june and july of 2011 with no side effects. Ask your doctor to write a prescription for benadryl to be given first before the infusion. It worked for me and hopefully will work for you. Good luck

Dot, to be honest if you got away without suffering any side effects, you were actually one of the lucky few.

Yes, it can cause the side effects that were mentioned, as well as others, such as muscle and joint pain, which linger long after the treatments took place.

I had iron treatment for the first time a few days ago and have been sick since. Headache, nausea, sweating and chills, anxiety and flu like symptoms. I feel awful. Are these normal?

Hello, I've had 16 infusions and getting ready for my next round of 8. The chest pain is not a common one but one I have also been experiancing. It has to do with the way your body process the iron. The #2s well those are common as well. The only thing I can suggest is to rest the day after and take some sort of pain reliever. It does not get better while you are doing them but the return is worth it. At one point I could not even walk up my stairs or make it to work without falling asleep driving. Now I have the energy to do both:) however I'm not 100%.
