I Take Suboxone For Pain Due To Having Six Surgeries But Ran Into Problems With Insurance Because Of Prior Authorization
UpdatedI was a pioneer to suboxone when no one knew really what is was. I had several surgeries and a TBI and suffer from epilepsy. Every year I must get a new prior authorization in Jan. I am on a 28 day supply. Well i told my doctor prior authorization is coming up I even called twice and spoke to him.

@Williiam,
I'm not sure exactly what your insurance company's policies are regarding this "prior authorization", but it sounds to me like you may be better off under a different plan/company if they're not wanting to work with you in getting your prescription. It's cruel that we have to rely on such people to get our meds who have no interest what-so-ever toward our well-being. In the end it's all about the money to them.
Being that it's May now, were you just not able to get the authorization this past January? That's quite a large time gap I would think, even if it's for 2014.
@Williiam, IF YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PA ITS OBAMA YOU CAN THANK FOR EVERYTHING.THE INSURANCE COMPANYS ARE NOT WANTING TO PAY FOR THE MEDS FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN ON IT FOR A LONG TIME.I HAVE ALSO BEEN ON SUBOXONE FOR 5 YEARS FOR PAIN USE.ITS NOT MEANT TOO BE USED FOR PAIN MANANGMENT.MY PA IS ONLY GOOD FOR 3 MONTHS.IM ON THE STRIPS,THEY MAKE A GENERIC IN THE PILL FORM WHICH I DO NOT WANT.THE FILM IS STILL THE NAME BRAND.MY INSURANCE IS WANTING TO PAY FOR THE GENERIC FORM.GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!
I have been on the suboxone strips for pain management since they came out. Now I need a P.A. and the lovely ASSistants say my ins. only pays for generic. I called my ins (caremark) and they said just get doc's office to submit a P.A. So I tell the girls and they SAY they sent it. 2 days later, now I REALLY have to get it, ins. SAYS they never received it. Doc's office says they sent it. I am soooo sick and tired of people just not wanting to do their job, and the runaround from ins. companies who make things sooo hard to get that you wind up either paying cash or switching to something that doesn't even help the problem because it's cheaper for them. I pay plenty of money to my ins. and my doctor every month, I thought I was the customer here? The entire system SUCKS! !!!!!!!!
Since they came out? I first took 10 years ago..that's a long time..so either u full of s***, or u full of s***...and subs don't do s*** for pain..everyone knows why we really take subs
I have to get a prior authorization every six months and come January my insurance won't pay so after seven years on sub's I'm weaning off. God I hope I can do this.
I've taken sub's for seven years , I don't feel high off them its impossible and I use to wake up with chronic joint and back pain, it felt like a toothache all over my body and I have not suffered from this since being on sub's. Suboxone does not help acute pain but it does chronic. I was being prescribed 360oxyciconton and 90 methadone a month for pain and would take it all within two weeks. Suboxone is a life saver for addicts with chronic pain. It has a ceiling effect that makes taking higher doses pointless, it is impossible for me to abuse, I would have to stop taking it for a week and go through withdrawal if I wanted to get a minute buzz. people who take it occasionally to feel high will regret it one day when suddenly they are in withdrawal from it
"and everyone knows subs don't do sh** for pain..." Speak for yourself and cease posting incorrect info on here. Subs do work for pain! Especially for what is known as chronic, long term pain that no longer responds to opiate narcotics. At 320 mg OxyContin+90mg Roxy+16mg Dilaudid per day, I was both a medically induced addict and still hurting. My dr planned to take me off all opiates, let my synapses reset, and start over with opiates. To counteract the intense wd's I was going to encounter, he prescribed subs x2 daily. Much to my surprise (and his) the subs did a wonderful job of controlling both the wd's and the pain. In fact, I am still taking them not for opiate dependence but for pain control. So, your assertion is incorrect.
I've been on SX since 2002,off and on.... now I take religiously as this is my only vice anymore. .. (and beer)... I want to,get off them altogether.... but I work 6 days a week. i have, Aetna insurance. ...I'm curious of how to approach a doctor in NJ, get on a set doctor, Keep going to my AA/NA meetings... CAN SOMEONE HELP ME WITH ADVICE PLEASE? I'M JUST TRYING TO KEEP DOING THE RIGHT THING. STAYING OUT OF TROUBLE. SX HAS HELPED ME OUT AND I JUST WANT TO DO IT LEGALLY NOW, AND SLOWLY WEEN MYSELF OFF IT.
Hi I just got new insurance through work, blue cross blue shield, (Anthem), they r saying they don't cover Suboxone. Walmart said I need pre-authorization. What's gonna happen??? I can't afford script
Yes I am going thru same stuff so did u end getting it??
Oh I disagree! I was,put on them for pain control back in 2007! Some people just throw up from them, some people just want to get high, but I can tell you with 100% honesty that when my a-hole doc and all others here in La started charging cash only just to get the, script, my ortho temp prescribed percocets and even at 2 at a time it didn't TOUCH it like the suboxone did. My prescriptions, even read for pain management!
I now have the problem that a "real" pain management won't take me because they believe what you do. Its nonsense! They are very similar to methadone back in the day. Came out to get people off drugs and found they do relieve pain.! Now I'm on pain, don't have 300 for these greedy docs (thanks Obama!) And am on the 5th one trying to get in. Here in La, you must go through pain management! It became law a while back. Now I'm stuck w hardware that needs to come out and no doctor. Anyone in this, area with any bright ideas? (Shreveport, La)
I'm guessing if you need pre auth you're probably on medicare/medicaid. The first time I got my pre auth it took A LOT of work but I recently had to reauthorize it and it was done overnight so it gets easier. Hope things go well for you. Good luck. I think suboxone is a miracle drug in getting rid of cravings and helping you get off of opiates. I wish you the best.
I take sub strips for PAIN. Your full if it yourself and its people like you that have caused the problem for people like me that take TWO strips a day - that's it! For PAIN. I HAVE BEEN FOR TEN YEARS. The same amount - no more is needed. Without them I'm not able to enjoy my grandkids or go for a walk! Now different states are putting out laws against prescribing for pain and i happened to just move to one! Tennessee has a law against it so I'm forced to go ALL the way back to Texas every 2 months. I don't want reg pain pills. That's why i too am a pioneer in this off label type of subs. My purpose is to live a normal life. That's what they do for ME!
I've been on suboxone since they came out also and that's going on 13 years. They saved my life and they do make it so hard to get legitimately that some people resort back to the streets,
Re: ktyount666 (# 4)
Tell me Why, why does everyone take Suboxone......?
Re: Knowledgeispower (# 7)
That's great that they helped but people think having opioid withdrawal is bad; that's three to seven days of hell, but try getting off Suboxone. The first few days aren't great but they are nothing until the 5-6th day and it just keeps going and going... I thought it was a wonder drug too until I tried to get off of it. I went from 115lbs to 99lbs in (5) FIVE Days. Now how healthy can that be? They are just feeding us anything and the sad part is, we're taking it because THEY said it was better and it worked. They've changed the main use of this drug 4-5 times that I know of. This is Ridiculous. There's a better way!!!
