I Have Severe Ulcer Pain And have Taken Hyoscyamine Sublingual Tabs With Good Results. I have meds But The Prescription Is Expired From 2007. Is It Safe To Take Now? ## According to Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. Source: health.harvard.edu/fhg/updates/update1103a.shtml But the question is whether the drug you have kept happens to be one of these drugs ...
4 REPLIES UpdatedI was wondering if this medication is used for the treatment of urinary track infection? And is it ok to take this medication if the expiration date is past. The expiration date was 2/16/05. Would this be safe to take and what would be the dangers of taking an expired Rx? ## yes you can take the med, the expiration date just indicates that the medication is loosing its potency. but alway contact your pc ## Symax is listed as containing Hyoscyamine, which is used to treat gastrointestinal problems, by slowing the action of the GI tract. It will not do anything to treat a bacterial infection, such as a UTI. Once expired, medications also tend to lose potency, and may not work as well as they did, when new, so it is best to dispose of them, and see your doctor. Typical side effects of Syma...

2 REPLIES UpdatedKu 102 - color white - what is it? ## I have a prescription pill and I don't know what it is. It is oblong and white in color with identification marks L014. ## The tablet with the marking KU 102 is manufactured by Kremers Urban, and they list it as containing 0.125mgs of Hyoscyamine, which is commonly used to prevent intestinal spasms. NDC code: 62175-0102 The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, flatulence, and abdominal cramping. Michelle, that is actually an over the counter tablet that contains 500mgs of Acetaminophen, it is a generic, or store brand of Tylenol. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, and stomach irritation. Is there anything I can help with?

1 REPLY UpdatedWhat is a long dark green pill that says 255 on it? ## Closest match I could find is LL 255 Green capsule shaped pill which is hyoscyamine .375 mg extended release. This pill is used for IBS, Crohn's, and incontinence. The active ingredient (hyoscyamine) is sometimes used for anesthesia or premedication for endoscopy/radiology. Not sure if it's the same as what you're asking about. If there is no LL on it, it may be a pill manufactured in another country.
1 REPLY UpdatedSide effects during first trimester of pregnancy? ## Hi Dee, From what I could gather, it is recommended that you keep away from using Hyospasmol (Hyoscyamine) syrup during pregnancy. Reason being is that possible dangers to the fetus have been accounted (at least in animal studies so far as I know). Because of this I would encourage you to discuss this with your physician prior to use, or if you are preparing to get pregnant. Often times in situations where the mother is pregnant and has to take a medication, it may come down to weighing out the risks versus benefits. I hope this info helps! ## I am 14 weeks and 6 days pregnant. Today got sharp pain in my stomach just below my navel. Pain comes and goes. Had consultation with my doctor via telephone as she's in another town. Had u/...

3 REPLIES UpdatedHow long does it take for hyoscyamine sulfate to work if you are using it for excessive salivation? ## Most medications can take about 4 to 5 weeks to reach their full level of efficacy in the body. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, and diarrhea. Has there been any change, yet? Are you on any other medications?
1 REPLY UpdatedWhat is this? It's a large flat grayish tablet ## Hi Lillie, Just had a few questions pertaining to your pill description: Is the RP and 115 on the same side of the tablet? What shape is the tablet? Any possibility that the "R" could be an "A", based on the font or pill condition? The closest match I've seen here is a white oblong shaped pill with AP on one side and 115 on the back. This particular tablet reportedly contains 0.375 mg of Hyoscyamine sulfate ER; used for treating various digestive problems, including IBS. For verification, the manufacturer who makes this is called Franklin Pharma and the pill itself carries a National Drug Code of 50532-0115. I hope this helps! ## We just found the same tablet, it was large and whitish, with RP 115 on the same side...

1 REPLY UpdatedI need this medican. It seems, that it has been taken off the market. I cannot take subsitutes. Please advise where I might purchase this drug. Thanks, Jo Ann Ghormley ## I'm sorry, I really wish I had some advice for you. Hyoscyamine is an antispasmodic, commonly used to treat certain stomach and bowel issues. I am uncertain why it was removed from the market, it may have been caught in the recent FDA investigations into drugs that they had never actually approved. Have you tried any other alternatives and have you spoken to your doctor about it? ## Drugstore.com seems to sell it in 0.125mg tablets. Are you restricted to a particular manufacturer, dose, or form? I hope this helps and good luck! ## 0.375 Hyoscyamine ER can be purchased at CVS. That is where I buy mine. ## I took hyo...
7 REPLIES UpdatedFound this cleaning my house I just rented and don't know what this is it is small white pill split down the middle on one side and the other side says 10 ## So far, I've found two different possibilities in the NIH database. If the numbers are more square, it could be a medication manufactured by Virtus Pharmaceuticals, which they list as containing 0.125mgs of Hyoscyamine, which is used to treat conditions such as IBS, Chron's disease, and other gastro-intestinal issues. If they are rounder, then it could be a tablet that is manufactured by Accord Healthcare, which they list as containing 10mgs of Glipizide, which is most commonly used to treat diabetes. There may be other possibilities, as well. I'll keep looking and post back, as I find them, so maybe we can narrow i...
1 REPLY UpdatedMy doctor diagnosed me with IBS, but I don't have diarrhea or constipation; just pain on the upper right side of the rib cage. I'm on Hystomine and the pain is still there. How long does it take for complete relief? ## Hello, Sandra! How are you doing? Has there been any change? It can take 4 to 6 weeks for most medications to reach their full level of efficacy in your body, according to the FDA. Unfortunately, I am not quite certain what medication you are talking about, so I can't be more specific. Can you please post back and clarify? I can't find anything under the name you've provided. What you eat and drink can also affect IBS, so you may want to make sure you're eating a mild diet. ## To Vernon, on the subject of IBS the medicine that I am taking is Hyoscy...
4 REPLIES UpdatedFound this pill at my fathers, and it doesn't match his other meds. it's little green, small round, blank on one side and imprinted with a 39 on the other side.. Anyone know what it is? it concerns me... ## Hi Roxie, I'm actually looking at an image of this pill as I respond to you and it's reportedly identified as a 0.125 mg Hyoscyamine sulfate sublingual tablet (peppermint flavor). According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, Hyoscyamine is indicated for use in treating GI tract disorders, such as IBS symptoms, colitis, stomach ulcers, Parkinson's, nausea, overactive bladder, and even pain associated with a number of other ailments in that region of the body. Just to confirm, the pill I'm looking at is small, round and green (a dulled down shade of green...
1 REPLY UpdatedI acquired P. HYOSCYAM in a large antique looking tin and am wondering if anyone can provide further information on it? I was told it could possibly be from the civil war era. ## Hello, Ben! How are you? Yes, it is most likely very old. Hyoscyamine is an antispasmodic that is used to treat conditions, such as IBS, peptic ulcers, pancreatitis and cystitis. It is not very commonly used, anymore. Though, it is still available in the U.S. via prescription. Typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include dry mouth, dry throat, eye pain, blurred vision, dizziness and flushing. It can be toxic, if someone takes too much, so it has to be dosed very carefully. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I seriously doubt the pills are from the civil war era. The tin possibly is f...
3 REPLIES UpdatedWell I've been prescribed hyocyamine 0.125mg sub vir. I'm supposed to take it every 6 hours for my lower abdomen pains However I'm still in pain, can I take more or should I just sit through the pain. ## Hello, Julio! How are you? It would be best not to change your dosage, without your doctor's approval. This medication isn't an actual analgesic, it works by decreasing the motion of your stomach and intestines. I can also take several weeks to reach its full level of efficacy in your body. How long have you been taking it? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, bloating and blurred vision.
1 REPLY UpdatedI took pill 3 hours ago and i am in the same amount of pain if not more than when i went to hospital. Could i possibly been misdiagnosed with ibs. ## Hello, Jess! How are you? Well, this isn't actually an analgesic, so it's not going to relieve pain. What Hyoscyamine does is help alleviate the intestinal spasms associated with IBS and other gastrointestinal disorders, but it will take some time for it to reach its full level of efficacy in your body. You should only take it as prescribed and give a few weeks, to see if it works for you. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness and flushing. Is there anything else I can help with?
