My husband has lost 70 lbs or more when he was on these two pills. He has been spleeing alot and now has a fine electric line across his eye. Why does he need TWO High Blood Pressure pills. His urnie output if lower. He has NO liver or Kidney problems or Heart. He was just told by his doctor that he doesn't have to Test his Blood Sugar anymore. He stopped taking any sugar or deserts for over two years now!! A NEW thing is that his Hands and Fingers get very, very cold now. Why is that?

How high were his blood pressure readings?

If someone has hypertension and it was very high, it is normal to give them more than one medication, to try to bring it down as fast as possible.

The Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic, it is meant to help remove excess fluid from the body. However, if he has low urine output, then this could signify a problem and he should contact his doctor. Taking this medication should increase his urine output.

It sounds like he may be dehydrated, which could explain his symptoms, so he may be on too high of a dosage of this, or he may not be taking in enough fluids.

The Avapro contains the active ingredient Irbesartan, it's an ARB, so it helps lower blood pressure in a different way.

Its side effects may include: nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain.

As to the coldness of his extremities, many blood pressure medications can cause this, because they affect the heart and circulation in the body. If it is severe, that is also something he should consult a doctor about.

However, if is diabetic, he may have it under control and not need medications for it, anymore, but he should still be testing his blood sugar on a regular basis.

Are there any other questions?
