How Long Do Augmentin Side Effects Last? (Page 4)

Firstly a disclaimer, if you have just eaten and have a soft stomach, avoid this post. You've been warned.

My dentist prescribed a two week regime of Augmentin for minor work that needs to be performed on a tooth. I finished the prescription one week ago. And I still have some odd side effects.

Before I started taking this, I had a normal energy level where I could exercise and do my work, etc. Now I have wayyyyyy too much energy and even though I start to feel drowsy at my regular time when I got to bed, I can't fall asleep until 2 -3 hours later.

The other effect I've been experiencing are dry lips. This is annoying. There is no change in saliva and my mouth is just as moist as before taking Augmentin.

Also during the last three weeks it's been as my appetite has been suppressed, but now it has returned with a vengeance where I eat more a lot. It would be equivalent to opening the flood gates on a dam.

Here's the disgusting part.

I've noticed that the color of my feces has changed from a light brown to an extremely dark brown.

Other than that I've been taking a probiotic three times a day, which I started two days ago. And eating Greek yougurt.

So I would like to know, is it common for side effects to last after taking Augmentin? How long will they last? And if you have any ideas on this, please let me know.

I was give augmentin , docxy for 2 months and a malaria course and antibiotic shots for three days while in hospital because my low grade fever wont go away. I am now having constant nausea ,loss of appetite, bloating in abdomen and edema in legs since last 2 years and not able to find a reason for that or improve the condition. I was perfectly healthy and full of energy before.These drugs should be banned or patients need to be informed about the side effects. I will never trust a doctor or any antibiotic now.

By the way, I returned to the doctor and told him what happened to me with the augmentin. He told me he did not know that the drug caused my issues and instructed me to take the drug again to see if I still had the same side effects!!! I told him I did not think so and have established a relationship with another doctor who told me immediately what had happened.

The effects of the drug lasted over 3 months, and I could not drive a car because I could not lift my legs to brake the car!!

I was prescribed a week's supply of Augmentin for a belly button infection and UTI. Both issues were resolved after completing the course of antibiotics.

However, in the 10 days since finishing, I have experienced the following symptoms: muscle cramps across the upper back, a slightly lumpy swallow (on and off), and tingling/soreness/mild pain in the hands (mostly the left hand/arm). In addition I am feeling a bit more tired than usual.

I would perhaps say that the symptoms have eased a small bit over these 10 days, but they are still there. I was wondering if many others have had these symptoms, and it would be great to hear from anyone who suffered any post-course symptoms BUT recovered from them in time.

I just fnished 7 days of Augmentin for a severe tooth abcess needing extraction. I noticed after the 7 days that my lips are a bit puffy and now 10 days after finishing, they still are. Is this likely a reaction and if so, how long will it last? Also had one day of 'itching' and still having crampy GI tract.

I suggest getting a yeast preventative medication when taking antibiotics. I get a one time suppository also written by the Doc.

I have been itching for almost 2 months post 10 day course of Augmentin. Checking to see if your itching subsided.

The symptoms you describe are from liver disease not from an antibiotic.

I gave this antibiotic to my dog and she is having a hard time walking. I read online it may cause muscle weakness and joint pain.I stoped the drug and I'm hoping my girl shows some improvement soon

I took Augmenting for ten days for a intestinal /colon infection. I finished two days ago and have had severe cramps in my abdominal area and nausea. I feel lightheaded with an intermittent headache. Most of these issues started when I stopped taking the augmentin. I heard they can last a few weeks. No fevers. Just weak and pain in intestines and stomach.

I recently took augmentin in IV form and then once in pill form. First night was ok with the iv. Then 2 hours after I had taken the pill (at specified time) I had started getting the anxiety side affects. My heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest. 2 days later and I'm still weak and my stool is still black. Just wondering how long it will last if I only took it twice. Should I Keep Taking It If Makes Me Feel Super anxious?

Don't take augmentin! It's horrible! I took only 4 pills a week ago. and am still having diarrhea and cramping - it should be banned and Drs forbidden to prescribe it.

Augmentin's side effects have been increasing after 7 days. Especially abdominal cramps/diarrhea. Should I stop or decrease my dose (875mg)? I'm taking it for a bronchial infection now of 2 weeks.

Did you happen to take Pepto bismol for your stomach pains during this? Or any of the bismuth containing products... will turn the dooky extra spooky (dark)

In my opinion Augmentin should be banned. Took 2 courses a long time ago…..first course I experienced nausea, took the repeat prescription and on the first tablet of the second course, I ended up in A & E with an anaphylactic reaction. Never, ever again
