How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 3)

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

I would love to read the doctor's paper.

Call your doctor, there is always someone on call. I am prescribed 4mg for chronic pain. I take a 8mg strip, and don't need to take another for 3-4 days, because I forget to take it. By day 4 I feel funny and I realize how many days it has been.

I know I will be on Suboxone, or whatever they come up with next for the rest of my life. I take it for lower back pain. (I won't bore you with all the dx, but 7 surgeries, 3 levels)
The cold weather is the worst for me. I don't mind taking it, nor wish to stop taking it. I was on Oxycontin 270 mg. a day, for 10 years, and watched the world go on around me, and still in pain.
Why did I start on 8mg when others take so much more, some 2x a day?
The pill..do you need to disolve that under your tongue too?
I don't feel all messed up on Suboxone, but on Oxy I would eat every pill I could find. Wierd?

I did subs for 8yrs and im 39 days clean. It can be done. Weaning yourself down as low as you can. I chose to go to rehab so that i was in a safe enviroment and no chance of getting something even if i wanted too. Wanted to eliminate all risks. Wish i had done it years ago bcuz it was newhere near as bad as i thought it was gonna be. The anxiety what out of this world, the worst part for me. A positive state of mind and the attitude of refusing to give up or go backwards and have to do it all over again. Affer a out 4-6 days off, youll wake up feeling like $1m bucks. Best of luck and trust me, you can do it.
Re: TommyC (# 1086)
What brain damage? Was it from the suboxone? I feel like my memory is horrible and I'm only 37. Been on Sub for. 7 years and so badly want to stop. But two kids and a full time job being a single parent makes it hard to be any kind of sick. No family to help either sucks! I'll pray for you and hope you get answers to your health problems.
Re: Don (# 1085)
Suboxone WITHDRAWAL takes time to kick in. In my case I didn’t have any symptoms of withdrawal until day 8. I had weaned down to.125mg from 8mg over a seven month time period. I had been on subs for five years. It’s been 34 months and I continue to have serious PAWS and some permanent damage to my brain stem. I recently met with three doctors (pain specialists, Neurologist, addiction and psychiatric specialists) and they all agreed I should go back on Suboxone. Their rationale was based on my age (71) and quality of life.
The preferred medication for my issues is Methadone. It is almost impossible to find a Doctor who will prescribe Methadone as a result of the new laws. I have no desire to go each day to a Methadone Clinic. I have to make a decision to do nothing and suffer or go back on Suboxone. The Paraesthesia is the result of the opiate and is not common. The malaise and lower back pain is quiet common for x opiate users.
I applaud anyone who takes the time to get of off Suboxone. I hope you find life after Suboxone to be much different than I encountered. I found getting to the right Doctor is a chore. Unfortunate for me that Suboxone may be a life long medication to block CNS signals causing my problems. Merry Christmas to everyone.
One last point; the withdrawals from Suboxone is very mild. However the time of recovery is very long. I am available for questions.
Re: Lissett (# 1083)
I think it matters how much you are taking. I am supposed to take 4mg every day (or 8mg if I feel I need it), but I was taking 8mg every other day, sometimes every 3 days; after being on Suboxone for about 6 months.
My Doctor does a drug panel and strip count every 28 days. One Rx he writes lasts 2 months/56 days. I was shocked when I went to count my strips on Friday, to find out I only used 4 out of the 28 strips!
I take it for pain management. My and son has a new girlfriend who has been cleaning the house (I pay her) and they go to the grocery store. So I haven't done anything that makes my back hurt enough to take a strip.
I haven't had any withdrawal symptoms at all. Again, I believe it's because I started taking 1 every other day, and sometimes every 3 days.
Re: azumpire (# 11)
Hi,
I am now, where you were then. 8 years on 6mg. Last time I tried to reduce I was bed bound. I went back.. I work 6 & 7 says a week and two kids. I don’t know how I’m going to change how bad I feel, my body & mind is being destroyed.
Please tell me how you are now?
I would like to know way if I'm on subs y do I still wake up feeling sick till I take a sub is that always gonna be that way
Re: The truth about suboxone and more (# 3)
God i wish inhad someone like you in my life! I need off these damn subs but I'm a single mom with two kids and work full time with no family to help me. I am desperate to get off these things but am stuck.
Re: TommyC (# 1077)
I want to know what all is wrong with you. I didn't know subs have after effects. Please let me know. Thanks
From experience, it can take up to 30 days to have withdrawals symptoms. It really sucks but the symptoms are less intense than opiates.
Re: TommyC (# 1070)
How can they tell if it was due to the Suboxone or the 50 years of partying since Woodstock? It was probably the 50 years, and you being an older man.
I don't think they can check damage of Suboxone on humans, maybe in a lab on animals, because everyone has taken all sorts of over the counter and prescribed medications. This would also include what you do for work, if you drink, smoke; there are too many factors.
Re: Beth (# 1075)
Due to the CDC hysteria doctors are being encouraged to put they're intractable pain patients on suboxone, so they're the ones who are on it for long-term chronic pain control.
Re: AmberLilly (# 1076)
I have been off of Subs for 31 months now. I am still having issues related to their strength and structure. I still suffer from malaise and parenthesia. Very very few Doctors have a clue as to the lasting affects of Subs. Friday I am seeing a Addictionologist and psyciatrist regarding a brain scan that shows the damage from Subs. We could not find one article or any lititure about the lasting and permanent changes in your brain after use. I met a gentleman who was on for 5 yrs and off for 30 months and suffers the same as I do.
Re: Silas (# 1058)
When my son was trying to get off of Subs he said everything went fine until the very last dose, and he just couldn't make the last dose, the withdrawal was worse than ANYTHING he had ever taken. His doctor was very negligent. He was very excited about finding an answer to getting off the pain meds, but it was hell on earth getting off the Subs without a clue of what he was getting in to when he started taking them, doctor didn't tell him a thing about this difficult drug. It definitely helped the pain and he felt the best he had felt in many yrs., it is a shame the withdrawal is so horrible.
Re: Deb E (# 9)
I don't understand why dr's keep people on Suboxone for years. It's used to get off Opiates, not to trade one drug for another. Like I mentioned before, my doctor does a 6-week taper.
Re: Joseph (# 6)
It should have ended over 6 years ago! Some dr's do it over a 6 WEEK taper.
