How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 33)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

I have been on suboxone for 10 days. Prior to starting the suboxone I was taking about 60 MG of oxy a day. My last dose of suboxone was yesterday and I do not plan to take anymore. While taking suboxone for ten days, I cut the dosage down every couple of days. Yesterday I only took about 1 MG. How bad will the withdrawals be and how long will they last?

Thank you. I'm trying to get off subs. I'm scared as hell. This wasn't suppose to happen. It wasn't planned. Was taking opits and didn't want to take them so tried subs. Worst mistake of my life. I'm tired of feeling like this. I'm going to start the process.

You were on 5 days to long. Look to feel flu like for about 30 days. I was on for 5 years and still in acute withdrawals 7 months later. I'm 70 yrs old and I'm going to make it. You will too.

Hi every one
I am about to quit suboxone next week. I have been using it for about two years now. Two questions, first isnt it better to tapper it down rather than giving it cold turkey?my doctor gives ne all the time the courage and brings many examples of people who quited it easily but frankly speeking i am doubtful since i have two insuccessful experiences. Second question is that what pills or natural materials will help reducing the symptoms?

I would cut down these last two weeks to at least 1/4 to 1/8 of a strip it's going to be hard but it sure helped me when I actually stopped. I tapered from one 2mg strip down to 1/8 in 3 weeks. It was really hard the last week I was so moody. And then when I stopped my doctor gave me clonidine and Valium and zofran for nausea but I didn't have nausea I was actually eating anything in sight. Lol I guess my body reacted differently then they expected I actually gained 6lbs going off. I was only off work for 10 days and was able to go back no problem. I've now been off suboxone 3 months. Only side effects I'm having is still my sleeping at night wake up in middle of night and can't go back to sleep! I also get kinda moody from time to time. But things will get better. Now as far as natural stuff goes I took l-tyrosine and b6 combo. And I also get b12 injections. My side effects coming off were basically restless legs, which walking helps, and not being able to sleep at night. Hot cold sweats too, and feeling I want to crawl outta my skin. But those symptoms only lasted the first few days after that it was just more fatigue. It's different for everyone though I was told my expierence was pretty mild and I was on suboxone for 5 years. Anyways good luck to you and try to stay positive the feelings won't last forever! I'm 3 months off and I've never been happier in my life! And never going back! Take care of yourself!

My doctor said I wasn't ready to quit. I tried a taper on my own and stopped seeing that doctor, he was typical sub farm that wouldn't take insurance and wanted you on a high dose forever. Now I'm looking for help and no doctor wants to help me. I can't seem to get myself past 2mg without having extreme pain in my joints, nonstop bm's, and absolutely sleepless nights. I wanted to be off before my wife gives birth to my first child. I'm depressed and lost over this. It's way better than my opiate addiction but hopeless in its own way.

I quit subs at 2 mgs/day September 22, 2014 after 4 years on them. It was rough but is IS doable! The first week was by far the worst but around day 10 I began to feel slightly better. My senses returned, my appetite returned and after 2 weeks I started to get natural energy in short bursts back. It took me nearly 6 months to feel like my old self again but looking back on it a year later, if you can make it through the first week (which you can), you can kick this stuff. Everyday was a little bit easier and each small victory filled me with pride and motivation. Being free from this horrible med is worth the misery of a few days. I know longer go to the Dr every month and fork over hundreds of dollars. I know longer wait in lines at the pharmacy knowing I'm being judged. I know longer have to plan my day/week/month around a medication that dictated my every move. And it is a GREAT feeling! I used to think it would be impossible but if you set your mind to it you can beat this thing! Good luck all. I hope you all can be free from this poison!

Yay for you, i was ontwo suboxones 8/2 for 7 years. Im now on one subtex a day and i feel so much better already! I just want to be free of the bullcrap, ya know. I was a junkie for 20+ years and dont want to bash suboxone because its the only thing that helped but ive been on long enough. I switched to subtex because it only has one ingredient in it instead of two like suboxone. Congrats and keep up the great work!??????????

Tommy I would definitely see a doctor about this! You should not be in this much pain after this long. Whatever you do Do Not get on any opiates or subutex or suboxone again. But maybe your doctor could help you with something non narcotic. I'm so sorry you're still going through this. Some people believe subutex is So Much better because it only has one ingredient. Not True. If you are on it for a long period of time withdrawal will be just as bad as suboxine. I swear that stuff is just Evil. I am now on day 56 clean from sub's. and feel so much better! It can be done. I'm back to my normal sleeping patterns and am Enjoying Life to it's fullest. I have 2 children and have missed So much :( but am definitely making up for it now :) Hang in there buddy and Please go see a doctor.....

Hi i see you said some people thing subtex is better. Believe me, i 100% realize that they are both just as hard to kick, but i guess in my mind, i feel just one ingredient is better. I already feel more normal as it were, so as long as i feel like im making prodress, its all good. Im glad you are off the crap and back down to earth. I hope to be there soon! Thanks??????????

I've been on subs for over 7yrs. 3times a day 8mg. I don't have any to taper down to only 3 strips. My doctor just cut me off with no good reason. I'm very depressed. I've never relapsed. I think he just has a list of newbies and I had to go... Very wrong but they don't care if u die!! Any advise would be great.

If you have a family Dr I would suggest making an appt to see him. It's going to be a rough time for my friend. Sub wds are no joke and they last forever. Ask your Dr for some blood pressure meds (I've heard clonodine works the best) and Gabapentin (similar to Lyrica - nerve pain pill). I was on subs for 3 years and had weened down to 2mgs before stopping and it wasn't fun. The blood pressure meds will help to keep you from getting chills and wanting to crawl out of your skin and the Gabapentin will help with RLS, achey joints etc. it will also help you sleep and maintain an appetite. Food. Comfort food. You have to eat even though you won't want to. And exercise. That's the last thing you'll want to do but it will kick start your endorphins quicker. I've been through sub wds several times so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Good luck man. You can do it if you keep a positive mind frame!
