How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 30)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, i slept two hours last night and just starting a twelve hour shift. My employee just came in and sprayed herself down with body spray and I really wanted to just punch her in the face. My band plays a show tomorrow with a national act. I eat very well still though I barely had an appetite last night and I only really crave fruit and veggies because they're light. I can handle all the symptoms pretty alright besides the god awful joint pain.

I hear ya. I'd say eat VERY small meals several times a day so that you don't ever feel heavy. Feeling full when detoxing is terrible. And when compacted with no sleep....ugh. Can you manage a proton shake/bar for energy?

Yeah I can manage that, I manage a smoothie shop.

I can actually relate to everything you say. I have been on that pink juice since 1999 and although I am grateful I no longer use, at my age it is a bigger issue than I had thought or remembered it to be. I absolutely do not want to transfer addictions from one maintenance program to another so I am doing everything I can to complete this as I've finally decided that I need to be Opiate free before I can ascend. I know you understand this. Thank you for you're input At least now I know there are at least two of us. I was down to 10 mgs. then just finished off all my take homes and am using Tramadol to take the edge off......so far so good.

Tramadol is also an opiate. It is fast acting with a short half life but will prolong your withdrawals.

Hi.. Just to clear up a comment made, tramadol is non-narcotic, and although it acts on the same receptors, is not an opiate. Here's a great link to clear up any confusion:

tramadolfacts.com/is-tramadol-a-narcotic

Tramadol is used for withdrawals at many detox facilities. As long as you take a minimal amount and taper down as your withdrawals start to subside, it really can be beneficial to use while detoxing. I am speaking from experience: I worked directly with many local detox/rehab facilities as I was the intake coordinator for recovery houses that my ex owned and operated. I am familiar with many of the drugs and the uses, as well as the safety concerns. Many clients were released to us early in their recovery and still prescribed medications for withdrawal symptoms. We controlled their meds and dispensed them also so nothing could be a used.

Anyone who is stopping Suboxone please do your homework before you take anything to alleviate withdrawal symptoms. There's a lot of advice out there from ex-Suboxone users and most of it is very helpful and needed, but none of us can take the place of a trained professional. It's important to have a working relationship with your caregiver- and to be totally honest with the meds you will be/are using to make detox a bit easier. It can be done without medications too. It's just not comfortable. But it does end. And when it ends life seems a whole lot brighter..

Pain medicine makes the body hypersensitive to pain, that's why you feel good without any. I had back surgery and I felt worse on oxycontin 60mg 3xs dly. & roxy 30mg 4xs dly than I do simply taking naproxen as needed. I never want to be on pain meds again a day in my life.they are the worst thing out here. Doctors dont care about us and prescribe a medication that's highly addictive with horrific withdrawal symptoms when you no longer take them.

I have been taking 24mg of suboxone for 1 year,it had been terrible coming off it,I stopped cold turkey and I'm on day 24 only using trazidone to sleep and restless leg medicine for legs. This is the worst and longest withdrawl I have ever been through! It feels like I'm going crazy and I'm a completely different person,I sure hope it starts getting better! I had 7 years clean before I started taking subs,I must be stupid for taking the amount I did. Anyone have any suggestions?

You stopped at 24mg no taper???? I've been off suboxone a month and I am doing so well. I came off at 0.5 mg tho so it's completely different for me. My expierence was I had difficulty sleeping. I took a lot of meds like Valium , gabapentin , clonidine, and nothing would keep me sleeping! It was so hard for me. I'm still having some sleep issues I wake up everyday super early and I used to sleep late! I can get 6 hours of sleep or less and still be fine thru the day, now what I think helped me was I'm still taking l-tyrosine and b6 and I get b12 shots for energy every 4 weeks. The l-tyrosine helps the mind and brain function. Maybe you could pick some up at local GNC store. Also I'm cold all the time stil and its summer! Now I don't know if that's a side effect or I'm just now a cold person

Ok, update, ive switched from 7 years of 2 -8/2 mg suboxones to one half a suboxone and 1 subtex. So far so good. I feel subtex is better because it only has one ingredient, not two. Im hoping to taper to 1/4 subox and then off completely then taper off the one 8 mg subtex. Im seeing light at the end of this long tunnel. Ill never knock suboxone because they are the only thing that ever really helped me stay off a 20+ year hardcore iv opiate/crack addiction. But i now just want to be totally clean. So again thanks for the updates everyone. Gives me hope and great not to be judged.

Shakey

I came off a high dose like you did. Didn't feel much until day 14 when all hell broke loose. I've tried to stop in the past at a lower dose and the withdrawals are much different. Coming off a high dose sends your body into complete chaos. It will get better but allow yourself a full month before you even feel anything like your old "self". The hard part is behind you and it'll get better!!! The things you are doing help. There's nothing that'll take it all away completely. Just keep your eye on the prize!! Also keep letting your doctor know how you're feeling. Watch your heart rate and blood pressure also. Good luck!!

Marley bt and chick,
Thanks for advice, I couldn't even consider tapering,I am on 25th day now and just got l-lysine and b-6 and b-12 , I am anxious to get back to normal, but this is probably the most drawn out withdrawl I have ever gone through! But it is possible, just a beast that needs slayed! Lol,it is definitely a tiny little bit easier each day just not the usual 3-5 day I'm used to like come my off other opiates, all the threads and comments have helped me more than anything else has helped because it really just feels like it's never going to end! Thanks to all who shared

Boogie

I did look it up. And provided a link. And looked it up in my moms (nurse 44 years) drug handbook. It is also a pain med they give addicts after surgery. Works in the same receptors as opiates, not classified as an opiate- is a controlled substance in my state. Wouldn't have posted if I didn't check resources first.

Posters this drug is a travesty and it is my professional opinion that the original poster's mother had a CVA secondary to this treatment INHUMANE treatment. These drugs first of all will categorize you forever if you are treated as an addict no PM specialist will ever treat you for even legitimate pain again.

Due to the FDA instituting the 120 mg. morphine equivalent rule millions of intractable pain patients throughout America are suffering; I literally can die from Central Pain Syndrome I have 400 or so related pain causing diagnoses but when you progress to this level your brain is literally inflamed (shows on specific labs) meaning YOUR PAIN WAS NOT PROPERLY TREATED.

This drug and others do not properly treat pain. An addict who is dope sick think it is a miracle well look at the original poster.

For those who voted for Odumma this is what you got or get.

Marleybt, at this point in your take down I'd ask for a full thyroid panel; T3 and T4 reverse panel (must be all I've stated) you might be hypothyroid due to the extreme stress to your body.

Good luck and you should be super proud!

TommyC Ultram aka Tramadol was created for doctor shopping drug seeking people and became an issue.

It is literally a mixed agonist, antagonist so like old school drugs (Talwin) can cause a person also taking straight agonist (opioids) withdrawal can occur.

Unfortunately many physicians doing pain management get asked for this and you are negating the benefit of your agonist (opioids) for pain by taking this dangerous drug.

It increases the seizure threshold and this in and of itself can lead to CVA and cardiac issues. It is not worth it to take this drug.
