How Can They Allow This Med To Continue To Be Used. Metoprolol Is Bad.

I had a heart attack last Thanksgiving. I was put on Met and I became sick not being able to keep anything down. I was then admitted to the Hospital to run test. This was one week after the heart attack. They took me off all meds and guess what, I felt great. Sent home back on meds and same thing. Back to hospital More test and nothing could be found. You where dehydrated, and take Promethazine 25mg to settle your stomach down. My wife and I was yelling BS. Now they lowered the dose and removed 2 heart meds. Guess what, I was sick again same thing. It has been a year now and things started to turn for the worse. Ran blood test and showed that I had low Chortisol and Acth Levels where exteremly low. Now I go on Prednisone and was told to take Met 1/2 tab of 25mg for one week and then stop it all together. All Hell breaks out and I crashed hard. I could not catch my breath, My entire body ached (like restless leg syndrome) High energy of 10 men, Major Migraine Headache, I thought I was going to die. Went to ER Room and they said Nothing wrong just an anxiety attack. My wife called me on the phone as we are both reading this same site. Thank you for showing me I am not crazy. I took a 1/4 pill of the Metoprolol and a 1/2 of a pill of Xanax and I Live again. Yes I do have symptoms. I can live with, not going crazy!!!!! You are not alone. We need to get a Doctor to show and tell us how to get off this Poison!! How to get off this medication for good?

Hello. Mr. Red! How are you? I'm very sorry about what you've been through.

Metoprolol is a beta blocker and while it does work very well for some people, it has also been known to cause problems for some others that try it. Typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, increased urination and low blood pressure.

As to getting off of it, from your post, it seems that you'll need to do a very slow taper, in order for your body to adjust. I think the one week one was just far too rapid for you.

What other medications are you on? Are you replacing the Metoprolol with anything else?

I was on it and it kept feeling like I was faulting in my sleep like my heart was about to STOP !!! I think I came close to dieing one night !!! I took my self off and feel a lot better that Met is a horrible drug !
