How Can I Stop Taking Gabapentin?

I have been taking way too much gabapentin for several years now. I started taking it to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms from suboxone. Then I started taking more and more and found out that stopping gabapentin has its own terrible withdrawal. I take about twenty 600mg gabapentin pills a day. More or less depending on how much I have. When I run out the withdrawal is pretty bad but what's worse is that it lasts way too long. It takes at least the days to get through the worst of it. I could just really use some help. Does suboxone help alleviate gabapentin/lyrica withdrawal symptoms?

Hi . I know how you feel I was on 300mg 3 times daily and when I tried going off it I had terrible headaches and bad leg pain as well as feeling like I had the flu times 10 . I would like to ask you to try clonidine it is for withdrawals of many medications and I found it worked great! Plus it's for pain but I would suggest only taking it for 1/2 weeks that's all you need and don't abuse it! It won't do anything
Hi Evan, sorry to hear you're stuck in this mess too. It's really odd to be clean but addicted to gaba. Have you had any luck getting off It? Any tricks on how to feel better when you don't have it? I take A LOT everyday. Way more than I should. But I'm so tired of all the effort it takes to get as much as I need.
Lina, im in the same situation, clean off opiates but hooked on gabapentin, and i actually think gabapentin is a worse addiction. I feel really trapped too. Write me back if u need to talk.
I have not really considered medical help because I'm embarrassed to tell this to my doctor. I have been in and out of rehab because of opiate addiction and I have not touched opiates in about 3 years, nor have I had to go to rehab in about 3 years. I don't want to have to tell anyone that I somehow got myself addicted to gabapentin. I don't want anyone to know. Unfortunately, I doubt I could get off it myself. I just feel trapped by it, the same way I've felt trapped by other drugs my entire adult life. I don't want to be abusing any drug but it seems I've never lived without one substance or another helping me/ruling my life. I just feel stuck.
A slow taper is usually the best and safest way to stop, since an abrupt withdrawal could create the risk of seizures, according to the FDA, along with nausea, fever, chills, anxiety, rebound pain, and depression.
Have you considered getting medical help with your problem?
