How Can I Get Subutex Not Suboxone? (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

I don't know how to go about this as I am shaking and can barely focus, I need help! Please. I fear that my life is going to end from my abuse of opiates. I am currently taking 250 mgs of oxycontin per day. I have a loving fiance and a stepdaughter that I want to be here for. I sit here with cold sweats, and fear going out just because I may make the fearful turn to the meds. Any and all info on how to obtain Subutex would be much appreciated. This wasn't what I wanted my life to be, and I can not let it end this way..Please help me. I am not a religious man but I pray for help as I am at my wits end with this drug.

i hav hep c also and was doing suboxone for well over a year. one day i woke up feeling pretty run down, thinking nothing of it, i went to work as usual. when i got there co-workers were telling me that i looked like i was turning yellow. so i looked in the mirror and sure enough, the whites of my eyes, my skin, tongue, everything, was turning a shade of yellow. i immediately went to a dr. and he said that my liver was swollen very badly and appeared to be shutting down and i was backing up with bile. so i realized on my own then, that the only drug i was taking was suboxone. so i immediately quit taking them, went a few days in withdrawl, and then found some subutex which does not contain naloxone. within weeks of switching drugs, my symptoms cleared up and ive now been on subutex for the better part of 3yrs and have not had anymore liver issues. my conclusion is that naloxone is VERY BAD for your liver and i will go sick before taking any form of suboxone, tablets or strips. most drs dislike prescribing subutex because they are afraid that people will abuse it. but they dont see that by being stubborn like that is only hurting their patients worse. if i go to a new doctor i demand subutex, and if they wont give it, i wont pay them. why should i pay them if they are trying to hurt me? you can also get naloxone added to your personal list of allergies by a family dr. then take that list of allergens to your sub dr and then he has no choice in the matter. thats what i have come to find in my life experience... hope this helps you and good luck breaking the cycle!

I have been on subutex for over 2 years now because my doctor tried me on every different suboxone out there and my face kept blowing up like a balloon. I am not on them for an addiction but so I didn't get a addiction. I have severe rheumatoid arthritis and I didn't want their percocet 30's nor their oxy 80's. I didn't want to be an addict. I don't abuse anything and never have. So you assuming that this is the only reason one would want subutex over suboxone is truly ridiculous and prejudice. Just because that may be what you've seen or done yourself don't point fingers acting like everyone else would. I can't move in the morning until my medicine has melted under my tongue and entered my body sometimes it takes 2 8 mg tablets. I am on 3 a day. So please don't assume.

Man most of y'all apparently don't know what the hell you are talking about. I have been on suboxone and subutex. I prefer subutex. I have been prescribed subutex for almost 3 years now. it's saved my life. I used from the age of 12 till the age of 24. I've been sober for the past 3 years. suboxone doesn't make you sober. you can still partake while on it, just like you can with subutex and they say that subutex doesn't have no option they're full of s***. it does like I said. I've been on it for years and there has been a few times where I Relapsed and tried to take opiates. Guess what, four days later 2000 dollars down the drain still feeling nothing. So yes subutex works just as well as suboxone. To each their own. Certain people react differently. Suboxone makes me sick as hell. I can't take it. Subutex is the best way to go for me.

This is, by far, the most intelligent reply i've seen on here. Hopefully we can eventually step away from this "after school special" view of "drugs" and "addicts." As if life isn't completely geared around our own mental addictions, which all are expressed in the body as biochemical cocktails, consumed by the brain.

When someone posts a question, reaching out for help and support, not a f***ing one of them benefits from the donkey that insults them. A great number of people benefit from Subutex maintenance, and cognitive behavioral therapy of some flavor. No one should feel obligated to sit around degrading and demeaning their selves, for finding their equilibrium. People on Prosac don't cry about being drug addicts, as well they shouldn't. I realize my view on controlled substances seems a little extreme. But, I feel that at the root of every addiction that interferes and destroys lives, is some level of disconnection and despair. Warring on drugs isn't the answer, it's the problem.

"Addiction Medicine" is not even a recognized medical specialty. No Boards to pass; minimal Continuing Ed requirements. You still haven't been stabilized on a dose?? Not the kind of docs I would hire or call in to consult. I don't suppose any f these medical geniuses suggested DETOXING and QUITTING back when you were 15. I have patients that age who are clean by the next year. If you have other issues, let a competent psychiatrist treat them, not somebody as illl-qualified as an "Addiction Specialist." My patients, in general, like me — I"m a nice guy — but my Diu Tx patients especially resonate with me because I've been there done that with half the pills in the PDR.

".....con another doctor"? wow, you make a lot of assumptions. I've never had to "con a doctor" in my life. I am an addict. I certainly dont need a doctor to feel high. nice try on the insults and assumptions tho. i should have stuck to what i said and just deleted your ridiculous responses. now you feel you have to prove yourself and your credentials to someone you accuse of being a 15 year old con artist. you CLAIM to have this credential and that credential (still suspect) and yet you have to stroke your own ego by insulting an addict on a chat room? um....ok.

boy, am i glad i came across dr. steven wright instead of the likes of you when i looked up "suboxone doctors"! he literally saved my life. but you? wow. what a "bedside manner"! if you really are a doctor (doubtful) i feel bad for your patients, i really do. get some therapy. you clearly need it. maybe putting down an addict on a forum is therapeutic for you. i mean, you do seem like a "has to have the last word" kind of guy. so go for it, its all yours. i promise i wont reply because at this point you are just BORING.

I have the licenses but I only approve Subutex scripts my Residents write. I've never prescribed it myself. Do you think jumping fro maintenance medication to maintenance medication is anything like recovery/ I do have an MD (Yale) and a PhD in Pharmacology (Columbia U.). Whether you accept these or not is irrelevant to me. You'e an addict and you've never conned a doc? That's a lie right there. Patients with Affective Disorders often need ongoing meds, regardless of their addiction Hx. (Good example is Bipolar I Disorder; Panic Attack Disorder w/Agoraphobia or Major Depressive Episode). I certainly prescribe for them. I wouldn't accept you as a pt and you wouldn't like me. My decisions are based on what is in the best interest of my patient. not always what he/she wants.YOUR story is boring; I've only heard it a thousand times in many different versions but the theme is the same "Doc, you're going to give me what I WANT, even if I have to hold my breath until I turn blue." That's never worked with me, but I am considered very much patient oriented.

I have to agree I am a recovering alcoholic and I myself am always looking for the quick fix. I have always switched addictions whether it be drugs, food, men, etc.....that has just been my experience. Until I could be okay in my own skin and be able to look at my own reflection in the mirror. And believe me it has taken me every bit of 26 or 27 years. And it is journey not a destination. I won't get it right until I meet the Big guy.

There are generalizations that fit all addicts - GENERALLY. A big problem with these pseudo-certified "Addiction Medial Specialists" (that specialty does exist according to National Association of Medical Specialists); the "Certification means nothing) is that they tend to look at drugs users as addicts through the same narrow lens. ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL in treating folks with drug problems. Although I"m busy as Hell, I treat my patents as individuals — and when I absolutely have to be away, I can post date WRITTEN SCRIPTS or have my Admin. Asst., an NP with the Prescriptive Privilege. If I have to be away. I offer a N/C phone session. Many Internists and FPs I work with (we have pts in common) will pinch hit for me PRN. We have good outcomes in our Drug Treatment Program, too and I"m not the boss (we wrk together)

Hi BB, the only difference between the two is that one has an opiate "blocker"..naloxone it is called, that prohibits any opiate from binding to the mu receptors in your brain, which means that no matter how much you take, you will NOT feel High. ..the SUBUTEX does not haveany blocker, and both meds use buprenorphine as the rather weak opioid type main ingredient....hope this helps. ..HOUSE in the HOUSE. ..

House, geez, I honestly don't know what the intention was in my crazy wording - talk about oxymoron to the umpth degree. I think what i meant was that i have never abused my suboxone tablets - even though I no longer get the tablets and have actually been using the film for the past 8-9 months. My main point was just wanting to try subutex over suboxone. Yes, i did indeed abuse full agonist opiate painkillers prior to starting on suboxone in 2010. From what i have heard of subutex, doctors really do not like or want to prescribe it & only pregnant women for the most part get this medication. I guess because it doesn't have the naloxone element it is somehow abusable.

Jackie. We aren't judgemental here. Please if you have an answer to a question that's cool, but please no talking down to someone because of your morals. For you this may be dope but it's not these medications along with methadone (which I am on) gives many of us our lives back

Patty, I completely agree with you. I am so glad to be at the point where I no longer feel the need to defend myself to people, including my own family, as to why I am still taking suboxone. Sure, the physical symtoms were gone in a week or so, but mentally, emotionally, psychologically, or however else one can put it, I am sure that at least for now, I will continue to be on suboxone indefinitely. I do not feel like a failure for this. It is really no different then hypertensive and diabetic people taking THEIR daily med or meds. Even if I so desired to wean off of suboxone, I would be miserable and it just wouldn't be worth it. It would only be a matter of time before I found something else to fill the void. I think that void created by the opiates is a void that just doesn't go away for some people. If people want to call sub and methadone the lesser of 2 evils, so be it. Until they've walked a block or 2 in our shoes, they just don't know - and they should be grateful they don't!

You are correct! 4 years later :/ my friend went through the same process and her doc switched her to subutex. These Dr's writing it have to be mindful that we're still learning about this medicine. Germany has the most research, if you can find the www from there. Blessings!

Dude you need to get into a detox center. If there isn't one near you find one somewhere else. most pain clinics prescribe the withdrawl meds. also so you can most likely get those from the same place the pain needs are coming from or if you go to your primary dr in withdrawal they should be able to write you a prescription for withdrawal meds. If no primary dr go to the emergency room, but in order for any of these places to give you something your gonna have to be in complete withdrawal. don't lie to them cuz it's only gonna hurt you. If you think your sick now then you surely don't want to have precipitated withdrawal, yes it can get worse if you take the withdrawal meds while your still on pain meds or "H" it sucks bro I'm not gona lie but you got to tell the dr's the truth if they are gonna be able to help you and you got to want it. The withdrawal meds are more addicting than the best opiates so you have to be careful. you shouldn't take the withdrawal meds for no more than a week or two. if you get them from a pain clinic they are gonna tell you you'll be taking fire as long as it takes. they want your money, not for you to get off them. they will try to have you take too many. i went from taking 20 blues a day, they wanted me to take 3 8mg suboxone a day. in a month i tried to stop taking the suboxone and got much sicker and it didn't start till 3 days after and in 2 weeks i was still sick at a detox facility. 2 x's per day 8mg's suboxone for the first 2 or 3 days, that is worst case if your abusing opiates a lot. the idea is too take as little as possible for the least amount of time. this will get you through the physical sickness of withdrawal but won't help with the mental part. it does very little for pain not associated with the withdrawal. the withdrawal meds only help through the sickness of the withdrawal. you have to do something after that but the dosage should look like this (I'm not a dr but much more of these meds and you'll be right back where you are now chemically dependent on these meds):

8mg once a day for the first 2 days
Then 4mg twice a day for 3 days
Then 4mg once a day for 2 days
Then 1mg twice a day for 2 days

Now depending on how bad you are, you said 250mg of oxy a day. If there is pain or injury you need a dr but if it's just the addiction don't let them give you much more than the scale i provided as that is just guidelines. a Dr will know what to prescribe and the proper dosage. just from my experience it was harder to stop taking the withdrawal meds the way they were prescribed. my Dr wasn't worried about my health just his money they could make off me. you can look up all the stuff you'll need on the internet for sleep cuz insomnia is a common side effect from coming off pain meds or opiates. see i don't like the being labled as a drug addict because I wasn't taking them to feel high. I hurt my self and took them for pain but the end result was still the same. if at all get into a church don't know if you know Jesus personally but now would be a good time to meet him, he is the only reason that i am still here and alive. the married father of four. if you can't get into a dr's office find a church. tell them the truth and ask for help. pray and ask GOD for the strength and knowledge to get through this.

The only way to get off of the opioids is to reduce or stop taking them, but how quickly or slowly you reduce is up to you. If you jump off cold turkey, especially without help from any outside meds, you are going to be pretty miserable. Hopefully you do not have to work during this. You can very slowly taper off though, going down a certain percentage of your normal dosage at a time, then having a period of adjustment before lowering the dose again, until you are off. But again, doing this with absolutely nothing to ease your symptoms will not be easy.

Exactly you know you don't need anything specific? So just go to rehab and man up or else you're going to get sick and possibly die? If you want that and go for it I'm just giving you a dose of the truth I've been through hell and back on the stage 4 cancer patient and I've been through it all so just stop writing posts that you actually know the internal answer to taking up other people's time that need actual help.

The dude is looking for help not to be analyzed and if tastes like what you were told, that's not accurate either because people have been abusing the suboxone too. There will always be somebody to do what they say can't be done.
