How Often Can One Take Norco?
UpdatedI have severe chronic back pain. A neurosurgeon prescribed Hydrocodone-apap 10/325mgs tablets to be taken every 8 hours. I am finding that my pain diminishes 1 to 1/2 hour after taking one tablet. Can I take 1 tablet more often, i.e., every four hours?
Have you consulted your doctor, or the neurosurgeon?
Hydrocodone with Acetaminophen, the active ingredients in Vicodin, is a narcotic opiate pain medication, so while there are times it is appropriate to take it more often, sometimes as often as every 6 hours, you should not do so, without checking with your physician.

I agree with Verwon. Talk to your doctor.
You should not increase your medication dosage without his express consent. If you find the Hydrocodone 10/325mgs isn't controlling your pain adequately taking one every eight hours, your doctor will re-evaluate the situation and perhaps increase the dosage or switch you to a different medication.
The maximum recommended daily dosage for hydrocodone is 60mg per day and for acetaminophen, 3000 mg per day. That means the most you should be taking the 10/325s is 6 in a 24 hour period and again, not without your doctor's consent.
Thank you for your replies.
Sincerely,
Kudo
I was going to write the dosage but Max has written everything I was going to say verbatim just so you get a second opinion max is right on everything that he wrote from the hydrocodone maximum to the tylenol maximum per day I would recommend the 10mg/325mg the last tylenol the better for your liver
i just took my 2nd pill of 10/325 in a 5 hour time period, Most days I can go 10 hours between doses. But I worked out yesterday and must've hurt my back again.
I was worried because I took it to early, Sometimes I get freaked out if I think I'm taking to many in a day.
You have to take over 4000 mg of acetaminophen to be dangerous. And hydrocodone 10/325 you would have to take more than 11 a day constantly to do any liver damage as long as you are not a big drinker .that is straight from a pain management doc
A reply to maxs answer you can take 4000 mg of acetaminophen a day look it up .and at 4000 mg is less than 4 grams of acetaminophen which is the dangerous part of the hydrocodone/acetaminophen.the acetaminophen is what causes live damage not hydrocodone! !!
You will be fine. I've taken a 10 mg tablet and in 2 hours taken another or cut in half for half dose. But be careful of the problem of too much acetaminophen..not the hydrocodone. You should not have more than 3000 mgs in a day. Obviously you're in no danger with a pill that only contains 325mgs per. You would need to take 10 tablets in a day..and no one really does that..
With the Tylenol, don't exceed more than 650 mg of Tylenol in a 4 hours period or more than 1,000 mg Tylenol in a 6 hour period or more than 4,000 mg Tylenol in a 24 hour period.
Ok so I officially realized i have a problem im taking 10-12 norcos per day i cant get off of it due to my lifestyle and being the only provider of 5 i cannot afford to be down due to withdrawals. What can i do.
I know this was posted awhile ago but I feel the need to reply since no one has. Do not quit quit cold turkey as very serious side effects can happen. The first step is to talk to your doctor about weaning safely and/or seek help from Narcotics Anonymous. Social workers are great too! I hope you get the help you need.
I get it without the acetaminophen because it made my liver function higher than normal.
I take hydrocodone 10/325 4 times a day. My doctor just started me on morphine Sul er 15mg tab. He said wait 3-4 after I take my hydrocodone how long after I take my morphine can I take my hydrocodone
Billy, Breakthrough meds aren't suppose to be taken regularly. A lot of drs won't prescribe them. The directions on the hydrocodone are to be taken when needed.
I am also on Norco 10/325 4x a day my dr also prescribed 15 mg Morphine sulf every 12 hrs. I can take a Norco an hr after taking the morphine and no side effects in fact I see no difference taking the Morphine it doesn't help with the pain its like taking a sugar pill I hope it helps you
Karen, Morphine Extended Release takes a while to build up in your system. You should get better pain management from it the longer you take it. If not, tell your dr, he may need to give you a higher mg.
My prescription reads, take one tablet by mouth 4×s a day
That's the maximum you should take a day if needed for pain but if you don't need it that much then you aren't supposed to take it
The morphine at 15 mg is a deadly dose. Look up how much a cancer patient gets. It killed my mother. It will destroy your liver, your colon, your bowels. And the other lady above with 5 kids....no excuses....you owe it to your children to not be high. The no, trust me they know mommy is not herself. You. CAN do it. God is there for you.
tiff, Morphine Extended Release is released in your system a little at a time over 12 hours. Morphine Immedicate Release is released all at once.
I'm sorry about your mother. But, she did have cancer and you can't blame the Mprohine for her death. Drs are careful when they prescribe pain medications lilke Morphine. They go by the patients tolerance to opiates, other medications they are taking, their weight and also the level of pain that the patient is in.

I take Norco 5-325 for pain. How often can I take them? One doesn't last very long as far as pain relief goes.
As for being addicted to hydrocodone. You have to realize that everyone's body is not the same. If everyone's body was like mine the pharmaceutical companies wouldn't be making opiates since they don't work on my DNA. If you not a doctor don't say hydrocodone won't hurt a person's body, they are NOT crazy. After years of taking hydrocodone my liver evaluations were bad so my doctor put me on oxycodone because it does not have acetaminophen. Too bad it took years before DNA analysis' were invented so that I found out that every medicine I had ever been given except one anti-depressant, didn't work on my DNA. You may know your body but don't act like every person is like you.
The problem with Hydrocodone & Acetaminophen is that you should not take more than 3,000 mg of acetaminophen a day, so taking 8 of those tablets is OK according to my pain management and internal medicine doctor but no more. However I know something that will work better for most everyone if not everyone. I put together an Anti-Inflammatory diet while studying about pain for a few years over the internet. Opiates don't work on me. Most people won't do it because they won't give up sugar. With this diet you cannot eat SUGAR, WHEAT-GLUTEN, Artificial Sweeteners (except Stevia with Erythritol) or CASEIN (COW'S MILK) and anything made of it. I did it for pain of Fibromyalgia, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Scoliosis, Kyphosis, DDD, Spinal Stenosis and Myalgia. After 2 months the diet kicked in and took away ALL of my FIBROMYALGIA PAIN & from ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS (an auto-immune disease). Basically you have to stop eating all processed or packaged foods. I just eat organic produce and organic meat. The only processed foods I eat are organic oatmeal and peanut or almond butter you HAVE TO STIR. These types do not use anything except peanuts or almonds. They don't use toxic oil, preservatives, or sugar.
I use a brand called Laura Sudder. However always read labels. Manufactures can change ingredients at anytime. You have to take magnesium and I list on my diet what types to take. I was put in the hospital for CHRONIC KIDNEY FAILURE. Very close to dialysis. I started my diet around this time and when it took effect my lab work came back with everything OK. The doctor said I had two healthy kidneys and didn't have to see him anymore. I have had a few labs since and they confirm my kidneys are healthy. My Internal Medicine Doctor was astounded. He just couldn't believe it but he knows my Nephrologist and knows how good he is and probably called him. {edited for privacy}. Since then I have had titanium rods put all the way from the C1 (next to the brain stem) to my pelvis and couldn't take any opiates since they don't work on me. I'm not saying it was pain free but the diet made it bearable. I had two 6 hour surgeries in November and one March 29th and I feel great. No more pain and lab work shows I'm healthy at 65 years old. I always have evaluations run on my liver, kidneys and diabetes (runs in my family) and they are always OK. I have info on what stops sugar cravings. I was a severe sugar & chocoholic. {edited for privacy}. Don't bother if you won't stop eating sugar, it's the worst one.
TC, just because you have not had any damage so far, does not mean you won't. You nor anyone else can say with any degree of certainty they or you will never suffer damage from prolonged use of hydrocodone and acetaminophen or any other drug.
Whoever said hydrocodone 10/325 would destroy your liver, stomach, intestines, is crazy. I made a point to post this even though this topic was posted several yrs back---problem with that is this- it's still here when anyone looks up info. I have blood work done once a yr and always check liver enzymes closely. I've taken it every day almost since june 2006. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in sept 1990. Every medication that was and still is on the market would not work on me. I'm also allergic to sulfa thought to be a cure for many, not me! If I had of taken it before they cut my entire large intestines out: I feel like there may have been no need for this critical surgery that almost took my life. They never prescribed hydrocodone in all the time I suffered every day spending most days in the bathroom 20 times or more a day. I never went into remission and when I was put in the hospital which was so many times I can't tell you; they would hook me up to the pump with morphine and my dr. Would say-- the less you use of your morphine the quicker you'll heal and I believed him so much so that every time I was released from the hosp--they would have to get 2-nurses to take the morphine out of the pump and witness each other doing so. They would say to me "You are the only patient we ever see that we have to do this". I asked her why/what- she replied "Because most patients run out of their pain meds and have to have more. You always have left-overs!" which looking back now I laugh.
It wasn't until 2006 and a boat load of prednisone and contending with 4-herinated disc that I was prescribed hydrocodone 10/375-which 375 mgs of tylenol is unheard of anymore. Frankly I have never been able to figure out what the addictive attraction is to hydro unless you abuse it. My medical records speak for them selves. I've never abused them, sold them or did anything negative with them. The reason is a simple one. I will never do anything to mess up this-- my life has changed so much because hydrocodone affords me to live normally. I don't spend my life in a bathroom any longer. You know they talk of oic-opioid induced constipation:meet my best friend in this world. I can go anywhere and do pretty much whatever I want to do now. I know how addictive opi's are. I've seen so many over-doses it isn't funny. I know what they do for me. I do try as much as possible to regulate doses to minimal so it doesn't hinder their effectiveness when pain is present. The dr.'s that see me and know my situation act like they still don't know what to say. I know it changed my world and until something is created for me that has the least bit of side effects and is safer than hydrocodone, I will continue to take it everyday. I am not willing to go back to living my life in a restrooms: restrooms (anywhere) and must know where every restroom in this world is located-dumpy ones/nice ones/public stalls that is really embarrassing because u.C isn't shy about the problems it brings/missing out every dinner or lunch date offered by my family and friends, church services, shopping, vacation trips by car or plane. No one knows until they've been through it.
I have some Norco 10/325 left over from a rotator injury. I have some dental work coming up I would like to take 2 tablets a couple hours before hand. Think I'll survive.
My doctor tells me no more than 3,000 mg a day, but I don't need it anymore. I would stick to the smaller number. I've seen it say both on the internet but I stuck to what my doctors told me. If anyone reading this has horrible chronic pain (not acute). I have put together an anti-inflammatory diet that has taken away 90% of my pain. I have Fibromyalgia, Scoliosis, Kyphosis, DDD, Ankylosing Spondylitis and Myalgia. The diet took away most of my pain but my Scoliosis, Kyphosis & DDD got so bad that I had surgery. The reason for the diet is that opiates don't work on me. I went through 2 Six hour surgeries a couple days apart, to put a titanium disc from T3 to the pelvic area. All of the cervical was fused years ago. Unfortunately the part from T1 to T3 collapsed under the pressure and I had a third 6 hour surgery. The doctor was trying to give me a little range of motion but the stress was too much for T1 to T3.
I may not be able to move my head very much but it was well worth it. Between the diet and the surgeries I have ZERO pain. {edited for privacy}. It's not an easy diet so if your not willing to give up a lot of your favorite foods don't bother. It was definitely worth it for me. Without the chronic pain there is no fatigue. It will also help other parts of the body. I was in the hospital with chronic kidney failure. I was getting a little better so the doctor waited to see whether to put me on dialysis. After the diet took effect (takes about 2 months to notice the benefits) the lab results came back and the doctor was VERY surprised. His eyes were bugging out as he looked at the paper work. He turned to me and said "You have two healthy kidneys, you don't have to see me anymore. It would probably help people who are diabetic & those having insulin resistance. It will definitely help people with auto-immune diseases just like my Ankylosing Spondylitis.
