How Long Does Tramadol Stay In Your System (Page 10) (Top voted first)

I took 100 mg of Tramadol last Thursday and have to have a urine test at my pain doc next Thursday (2 weeks between dosage and test). I was wondering if anyone has been tested positive after that long?

Dr. surprised me with a urine test and discontinued all pain meds stating in my official letter that specifically tramadol showed up (which were not prescribed ) . I had taken 50 mg 9 hours earlier so yes it is included in all drug screenings. Sorry but that's the way it goes.

Help! I took Tramadol HCL for 3 days for knee pain. I started itching on back, thighs, hips, lower legs. I stopped drug and took Benadryl. Put on cortisone cream 1% nothing helps. I finally called and got something stronger than benadryl--- hydroxide. It is two weeks since last dose and the itching is driving me up a wall. Please tell me what I can take to relieve this. Vicky

I was asking about the severe itching reaction to tramadol. My asking about how long it would be in system had nothing to do with drug testing--- I just wondered how long it would take to leave my system. I have my ans now: it took almost 3.5 weeks! The itching has finally stopped. I took half of the prescribed dose and stopped on the third day. Can anyone speak to this reaction issue?

Tramadol is derived from opium and it WILL show up as opiate on a urine drug screen. Some tests are specific to opiates and will further test for oxycodon or tramadol for reasons stated in other postings. So on a 5-panel 10-panel ect it will show up as "opiate positive". Hope this helps. Tramadol is a mu-opioid agonists that target mu receptors specifically so they are theoretically effective for pain without some of the cns depression or "high". From personal experience, using several at one time gives a slight high but not anything you would be happy with. And high doses are known to cause seizures and headaches among several other uncomfortable side effects.

I also attend a methadone clinic; and was looking to see if anyone knew how long Tramodol stays in your system. I was curious because I was in a lot of (lower back) pain last Sunday. (It was prescribed to me but it was an old left over prescription from a problem a year ago. So while technically I was taking a prescription for myself; since it was prescribed recently or for the reason I took it I feel it may upset the methadone clinic & I am subject to random drug testing) At any rate, I am simply replying because of the comment/reply (from someone Below) about "methadone and tramodol would both just show up as an opioid on a 5 panel" etc. This may be true for many vague drug tests (Such as testing for hiring purposes etc.) But Methadone & Suboxone Clinics (like the one I attend) order SPECIFIC drug tests. They pay extra to SPECIAL ORDER Their drug tests; because they need to see if you've taken anything other than the methadone they are giving you. If anything other than the methadone or suboxone shows up on the test you're IMMEDIATELY discharged from the program. (Unless it was recently prescribed by a doctor for a current condition.) So while many drug tests may just come up positive for opiates; a clinic will know if you're taking Tramodol, Methadone, Percocet, Vicodin, HEROIN or even a simple benzo (such as Valium) for anxiety, wtc. etc. etc. Please try not to take anything other than the methadone you're being given; but if you DO slip or surrender to the pain (Such as I did last Sunday) Keep in mind it may take up to 5 days to flush out it of your system. (From what I've been reading...) It would be a good idea to drink lots of water. But if you drink too much water & produce clear urine; it's an AUTOMATIC FAIL. So some good suggestions I've READ, is to drink water until your urine is clear; then take some multivitamins & possibly an energy shot, to color your urine yellow again. Vitamin B's & many other vitamins will color your urine yellow, as if you're dehydrated.

I was prescribed tramadol before I started going to pain management, after being on it for several years it wasn't helping anymore. I now am prescribed oxycodone. A new medication I started for my Lyme disease, Avelox caused a tendon to rupture in my forearm/ wrist, it is extremely painful and I ran out of my oxycodone a few days early which doesn't normally happen. Desperate for some relief from the pain I dug through my medicine cabinet and found an old bottle of tramadol. I took 100mg each day for 3 days to get through work. (I have exhausted my sick leave from Lyme disease and can't afford to lose my job) I have my regular drug screen this Wednesday for pain management, and then Thursday I am seeing a doctor about the tendon. The tramadol was prescribed to me it is just old. Pain management is very strict about you only taking whatever they prescribed you for pain they don't care about unforeseen circumstances or that the tramadol was prescribed to me. I have the bottle and can show they but that won't make a difference. Too many people abuse drugs and sell or buy them on the streets. I do not abuse my medication or the tramadol from last year would be gone! I never understand why when people are asking questions on these forums why there is always people saying if it's prescribed to you then don't worry about it, or automatically assuming everyone is abusing medication or taking someone else's meds. That wasn't the question they were asking and really it's none of your business. There is no need to state the obvious and it's a waste of time and doesn't help answer the question.

I am legally prescribed trimodol and I took one sun. My dr are being a pia about all the different pills I get prescribed and keep telling me I failed. I have never failed in my life and I don't understand your they are giving me such a hard time. They are telling me it's illegal to see a pain management specialist and this dr. I'm very scared the trimodol though legally prescribed to me will show up again. Will it? Plus I haven't even taken a hydro in 2 days though I'm legally prescribed it. Will that show up? And why are they giving me such a hard time? This is the 5th test I've taken. It's so frustrating. Please help. Ty.

That is not true! I am on the tail end of methadone that is used for pain! It's a very powerful pain killer! They can tell the difference between methadone and tramadol or any narcotic you take, as the drug tests are VERY specific! Methadone is not just used for heroin addicts it's used for severe pain and is 100 stronger than other opiates! It's just incredibly hard to get off of without going to intense rehab! Trust me I know! After a botched foot surgery leaving me crippled my old pain dr drugged me for five years on methadone and Morpheine! It's been hell getting off......

It used to not be. Now it is considered a narcotic. We used to have tons of these in bubble packing on our med carts. Now they have to be locked in the lock box in the med room. Only nurses have a key. Also they must sign it out, how many, and for what patent.

I had a doctors appointment the other day and they did a random drug test. The only to prescriptions I take are the ones he prescribed which are Percocet and Oxycontin. I told them I had taken Mucinex Fast Max, Benadryl because I have been sick as well as I had Cipro the week before due to a bad kidney infection/UTI. After they did their quick test, they said it came back POS for Tramadol which I haven't taken since October 2014. They sent it off to a lab for further analysis. I also saw on the internet that a KI/UTI can send off a false reading for Opioids too. Is that true? The pharmacist said that dextromethorphan can show up as an Opiod. Can that cause it to read as Tramadol?? Please help with any feedback. Thank you.

You are correct, those rules changed in August of 2014, It will show on a twelve panel test.

Tramadol is included into test panel. It's opioid like, and works with opioid receptors. It's considered a controlled substance. In some states like TN it is considered a narcotic and sought on drug tests due to highest rates of suicide and opioid abuse. I am in pharmacy school. Yet a week is enough time since its half-life excreted in 6.3 hours.

I do think that you have to use one Dr for pain use only. Like a Pain Management Dr. When you see one.....they make you sign a contract saying you will only take pain meds precribed by that physican only......and IF you have to go to the ER etc..... you have to tell them what your on.....so they dont not OD you or give you something that will interfere with the meds your already on. So if your seeing pain managment and another Dr and both are precribing pain meds..... then they are right. Get it with the same Dr and the testing will stop.

Tramadol is on a drug screen Now. I just had a urine test on Jan 11 and it was positive right under the tramadol on the test. It had ritlen and soma's in their too. It had all kinds of tests.

Tramadol is actually given to people on suboxone for minor pain management, ie toothaches etc. It attaches to a completely different receptor then opoid antagonist such as suboxone. As a matter of fact, it is very useful in bridging with suboxone cessation. When stopping suboxone from long-term use, ur body will go through withdrawal just like any opiate and tramadol is useful to alleviate the discomfort. Used cautiously, most people do not develop a problem with dependency to tramadol.
