How Long Do Topamax Side Effects Last? (Page 6) (Top voted first)

I began Topamax a week and a half ago as a migraine prevention. I am experiencing random facial, hands, and feet numbness. Mental fogginess, dull headaches, and tiredness. For those of you who have had success with migraine prevention and have taken this medication for a long time: How long did your side effects last? I have heard only a few weeks. I'm not sure If I can deal with this constantly much longer. I am contemplating which is the lesser of the two evils side effects vs. migraines. I have lost 10 lbs. though. Any advice?

I recently stopped taking Topanga. I stopped cold turkey, I wasn't thinking of any side affects when I did this. The reason I stopped is due to the terrible taste in my mouth. I was put on this drug for anxiety. My parents died within a month of each other and although I suffer from mood disorder and am on Amoral 200mg.daily it wasn't helping with the anxiety. I have been on 50 mg.since December of 2013 so approximately 3 months. I experience tingling in face and leg. Have had diagnoses such as an MRI and everything was negative. However, I have been feeling very nauseated I also am experiencing terrible headaches. Is this due to my stopping this drug? I was not put on this drug for headaches. ss

My neurologist prescribed 50mg daily for 3 days, increased to 100mg daily for cluster headaches. I had horrific side effects. I felt high all the time. I would also experience intense waves where I was would become catatonic, fall asleep, be unable to read or think, could not understand words when people would speak, disorientation, I would lose time, experience vertigo, cold and numbness, pins and needles, the list goes on. I lost 4 pounds, was unable to drive and could not work or leave the house for a week. This is the devils drug, I would not recommend it unless it was for epilepsy or an absolute last resort for another condition. I would personally rather have cluster headaches especially after reading that almost 12% of people have permanent side effects from it. I stopped it after one week and am going to try verapamil which is a blood pressure med and has way fewer side effects. I have changed neurologists as a result of him prescribing this medication to me.

Hi all. I am male and have migraine headaches all my life. I am on several medications and started taking the generic of Topamax, Topiramate a month ago, I immediately have the awful nasty taste in my mouth, dizziness, loss of coordination more headaches but also shortness of breath. Has this happened to anyone else out there? One other medications have been on about 3 years is Gabapentin has anyone had problems with that?

GET RID OF THE BOYFRIEND! You have enough to deal with in life, you don't need some jerk who has no clue what its like to not be able to just jump into a vehicle whenever you want, let alone seizures and isolation, depression just to name a few. I know this because my daughter has gone thru the same thing but now has a boyfriend who is very understanding. I'm sure its not easy for him but he's not always complaining about it. There are NICE guys out there who will support you instead of making you feel worse than you already do.

I've just been reading your post about Topiramate, and I must say that I've been also suffering for years and tried alsorts of medication!
I did try Topiramate a couple of years ago and only stuck it for a couple of days, as I couldn't cope with the side effects !
This time I'm going to try just half a 25mg tablet at night to begin with.
How long do the awful side effects last ?

Did the pharmacy refuse to fill the prescriptions or was it the insurance company, the reason I ask the pharmacy can't refuse to fill it unless it's to soon but then they'll usually just tell you it's X amount of days to early and we can fill it on this date but they can't just flat out say NO we will no longer fill this for you

Sccording to hosp staff neurologist, this stuff put me in the hosp after taking it for 1 1/2 wks. I stopped it per dr suggestion. pharmacis said it is nasty drug re side effects. I had 3v seizures and a stroke on the same day, dr from Mayo told me to get to ERnow ! He thot I had another stroke s when I talk ed to him, they believe topomax was the culprit. Go to pharmacy v and ask for a comprehensive print out re this drug. It cut my appetite so much, I didn't want to eat, therefore I forgot I needed to cook. Did nothing for headaches.pls do xtra research b4 putting this in ur mouth

U gave mg and i have been on Topamax for a couple weeks and just noticedthis horrible taste in my mouth. I was wondering how long this would last, since i did see it as a side effect.

I was on Topamax for 2mos experienced bad side effects such as tingling and swelling in the feet,fingers, mouth,muscle and joint problems unable to concentrate.Awful medication to be on.I was put on it for Tremors I am no longer on it and why that medication is not yanked off the market for it is doing more harm then good according to my research

I have been off Topamax for over 2mos and still feeling the side effects such as tingling in hands,feet and around mouth area.Have no idea how long i will have these side effects but i certainly hope that this will not be permanent damage from Topamax.

Hi im just tapering off after 7 weeks. Was prescribed for migraine 25 mg and straight away started to get twitching inmy eyes blurred vision . Was supposed to up the dose every 2 weeks but the twitches just got worse there was no way I could tolerate any more than 25 mg. Its a shame as my migraines did reduce but the side effects just werent going away

Hi. I started taking topamax on July 8th and 10 days later I had a allergic reaction which caused my tongue to severely swell then less than 2 weeks later it happened again and both times it resulted in getting medical attention. Up until recently, I wasn't sure what was causing it but then researched the medicine more and found out there are possible allergy reactions that can happen from the medicine. I already stopped drinking pop but it taste too gross now. I stopped taking the medicine 2 days ago now. I hope since I haven't been on it for too long then there isn't any perminent damage. I am going to see my Dr. I am glad there are others out there that has had problems with topamax too.

I was on lyrica twice daily but thought it caused weight gain so changed to topamax 50mg at night for nerve pain in my back and leg. I had heard that topamax caused weight loss and have gained lots of weight so have been hoping it would help me loose some weight but hasn't happened. I am contemplating going back on lyrica because I am experiencing suicidal thoughts am suffering with bad stomach problems and nausea ohh and some sleeplessness. I suffer from depression anxiety and PTSD so it's hard to tell whether I'm just having a episode or it's the drug, I'm finding it unbearable but works well at blocking the nerve pain which was impacting on my life. I am reading these posts and hoping the side effects tapper off after a few weeks.

I just started taking it as well and can't sleep either and when I try it only makes my anxiety worse but during the day I can tell a big difference in my overall mood, patience, my anger level. But I'm starting to not know which is worse.

I was told that my memory would come back when u changed of the topamax.my doctor just increased me to 100mg because I'll m experiencring double vision now too. I'm completely fatigued. Wondering if that's a new symptom now

I have taken the firocet for years and fight the insurance company's almost every month they have started me on topimax I'm on week three now I hate it the firocet worked I don't know why it has to be a problem I am still getting both currently I was taking three a day I'm down to one with the topimax but I spent the summer recovering from retina reattachment surgery so the increased eye pressure has me terrified

I pray for YOU. I believe there is much wisdom in your generation and have very much respect for people your age. I am 30. I am sorry you have suffered so much. I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder when I was 22 and I also suffer from migraines. I couldn't even begin to count the number of drugs I have been on but things are getting better for me. It's been a long 8 years. They do the same thing in pharmacies with anti-anxiety drugs as they do with pain medication. I am dependent on both or I cannot sleep or function. I cannot have children because it would take me years to ween off the drugs and by that time, it wouldn't be safe for me to get pregnant. I cannot tolerate birth control, it makes me extremely depressed so my sex life is very tricky and gives me a lot of anxiety. I am engaged to a wonderful man. I hope you can find a way to live the rest of your life pain-free. You are very strong for tolerating the pain. God Bless.
