Help Regarding Vortioxetine/brintellix (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been suffering from Clinical Deep Depression for 19 1/2 years now. I was on Cipralex for at least 15 years (I am extremely sensitive to antidepressants) - Cipralex stopped working and I have been put on Brintellix/vortioxetine - first week - had to cut Cipralex down to 10mgs for 5 days, then start Brintellix/vortioxetine 5mg and 5mg Cipralex for a further 5 days, then 10 mg Brintellix/vortioxetine for almost 2 weeks, started 15mg of Brintellix/vortioxetine yesterday - have been feeling extremely terrible in myself, thoughts of suicide and self harming have been rearing their ugly heads in my mind, can't stop crying and if not crying am biting at the ones I love. Seriously feel I could do something very stupid. Currently waiting on my doctor ringing me as I have run out of this medication. I feel so lost, don't know what to do and am so scared. I was hopeful when my Psychiatrist told me this medication has been having good reports on other patients, want to scream and can not sleep at night with this. Are any of you going through this too? Surely there should be some kind of positive effect by now?

Hi Verwon, so sorry I'm only replying now. I'm unsure if you seen my previous post on update? Anyway here we are on wednesday 7th june 2017 and seriously? I am ready for pulling my hair out at this stage. I am now on this Brintellix/vortioxetine a month and this past month have felt I've gone through so much, I mean - going from crying all the time to crying and then snapping and now? Constant snapping, this is not me at all, I have never been an angry person in my life and all of a sudden even I am questioning what the heck is happening to me? I'm getting onto the doctor tomorrow, hopefully psychiatrist because I can not go on like this, it's not fair on my family or me for that matter. I dont know what exactly is in this drug but I am hating it more and more each day, what I can not understand is - last week I had 2 days which were quite good for me infact the best 2 days I have had since I can remember, then Saturday comes and anxiety is through the roof and nothing stops it or calms it down. Did go and lay down for a bit and prayed like mad to fall over to sleep which I did thankfully. This is now 10 days on 15mg and I honestly don't know where to turn, just know, I feel like I am on edge (bad edge full time) whilst my poor family are living on edge with me being like this which is not me :(
Are you on this antidepressant yourself?
Update on yesterday, found out Brintellix/vortioxetine is in a totally different family than Cipralex. I was at my gp yesterday and she is concerned and wants a close eye kept on me on how I'm getting on. Did not have any Brintellix/vortioxetine in me until about 5:30pm yesterday and about an hour later, felt a feeling of almost being "euphoric" in a way with 15 mg which I guess was better than feeling as low as I was. This feeling lasted for about an hour and then calmed down, felt tired and finally did sleep last night, maybe this is now the Brintellix/vortioxetine getting into my system? My doctor is reluctant to take me off these as yet because of not being long on them, however if the thoughts/feelings of suicide and self harm continue or worsen then as I was told "there will be a plan b and a plan c, etc". So I will fight through and please god begin to start seeing some kind of light.
Most medications of this type can take about 4 to 5 weeks to reach their full level of efficacy in the body, and that requires a consistent dose for that time period, according to NIH reports. The typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood changes, and weight changes.
And yes, if the feelings of self-harm, or suicide return, or worsen, you should seek medical attention.
How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?
Hi, I wanted to update with how vortioxetine is now affecting me, from the last time posting (things were not good at all) however, there does seem to be a small and I mean tiny, slight balance now with these. I'm not angry now (not the way I was) but I am not sleeping. Was at the psychiatrist today and asked her for something to help me sleep so she has given me 7 sleeping tablets. I'm still very unsure about this medication and continue to feel sick each day. Am hoping and praying things continue to settle. I was on 15mg of vortioxetine and from tomorrow will be on the highest they can go (20mg) so we shall see.
I'd love to hear of others experiences with this medication. When explaining to the psychiatrist today on the switch over, she said herself "You have had horrific side effects" which has lost me 2 Aunts that obviously have no idea and are meant to suffer depression themselves. Beggars belief to me.
2 Months now on this and had to bring myself down from 20mg to 15mg to 10mg because I couldn't cope with feeling sick day in day out. It's not normal nor is it helpful. I feel at this stage it's fair to say, I personally hate this medication, hate it with a passion and I will be saying to the Psychiatrist in a couple of weeks when I go back that I want of it altogether whether I end up back on Cipralex, at this stage I really do not care, all I know is that medication should not be allowed. I suffer also from IBS and "Brintellix" has worsened it to the point, I cannot go to the toilet even with laxatives. The pains I have in my stomach are unreal. Please if any of you are on "Brintellix" out there, please, please can you comment on your experience with this? I feel so lost and so depressed I hate it.
Re: Lost Soul (# 4)
I too have depression and was put on Lexapro. After about 2 months I asked my doctor for something else as the Lexapro did nothing for me. My dr then started me on 10mg of Trintellix. It too did not do anything and I experienced anger issues. I asked my doc for the 20mg dose. Within a week of taking the 20mg dose I noticed a slight change in my mood and I am now thinking of doing some things that I lost interest in again.
