Harvoni Side Effects (Page 23) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been taking Harvoni for 3 months now and am having nerve pain in my legs and lower back pain. Is anyone else taking Harvoni having any of these same side effects as me? Please help if you are able. Thank you
You can get assistance based on your income. My friend paid zero.
If you are incarcerated you pay zero, that's what smells so bad. Not to be ungrateful but when certain minority's get $100,000 for treatment it just smells bad. Let's hope for the best that this is a good drug for some even though my experience was awful.
I read today they are in phase 3 trials for ppl under 18. What person under 18 has hep C? Don't you think they should wait and C? Give it a few years before you are so quick to put children on it.
JANE: So what do you think about Kaiser? I have insurance through my spouse, who works for the State of Colorado. The only two there are to choose from are United and Kaiser.
I am not familiar with any Kaiser Medical Centers in Colorado. I know quite a lot about the northern california Kaiser establishments and I believe they are quite good. Kaiser is the oldest HMO medical system that we have and are much better than they used to be. When I worked with HIV patients, Kaiser was (and still is) highly regarded. The patients like their care there. I would assume it's the same with Hepatitis C. Kaiser offers many different specialities to it's patients. One can see a therapist within the system or a dermatologist. I think they are probably better than United Health. Remember that if the Kaiser you belong to doesn't offer the speciality that you need, you may see someone at another Kaiser. I have a friend who is a Kaiser patient and she had a liver transplant at University of California Hospital where all the really good specialists practice. Good luck and please know that I'm available to answer any questions about health insurance.
JASMINE: But I assume he no longer has Hep C, correct?
JANE: Yes I am familiar with the Kaisers in Norcal. I was born in the Kaiser in Sacramento, and so was my son. I have two friends who were born in the main Kaiser in Oakland. I grew up in Norcal. I will have to see if my current addiction specialist takes Kaiser. He provides me with tablet methadone, which basically NO ONE will do. So that is something to consider. Man, I wish United was better. I would love to start the Hep C treatment, but a thousand dollars a pill is a joke. Gilead could lower the price to $50 or $100 a pill and make it up in volume of sales. I don't know those pharma execs keep a straight face when they actually say "$1000 per pill". I mean, they have to be LAUGHIING THEIR ASSES OFF!
I am so sorry to hear that. So any blood tests show any change meaning I assume he has labs while on "poison" I call it that as well but didn't want to offend. Did he become anemic or complain of changes while on treatment or did this hit him post? My point being are the docs dismissive that it's from treatment? I hope that with time things will get better. I understand the issue with eyes for me that and my heart was immediate. One other odd thing that proved there was an issue with inflamation. I had a few foot bunions the NEXT day all of them were swollen up in size literally overnight!
There was defiantly water retention or swollen joints that I could see because that's a bit external. I have lived with constant dry and painful eyes seeing spots or slight aura coming on rather disturbing. I hope all this passes I can't imagine if I was still on this yet others have zero sides I don't get it.
Do his docs validate that it's resulted from Harvoni or play dumb? I wonder if it's because they don't know or they don't believe us.
That is the mythology to get the drug passed by the ins company. Like there is a guarantee that we are all going to get liver cancer.
Actually this treatment was supposed to be for ppl that are chronically ill from liver disease. The reports of ppl that are stable and not with cirrhosis or ready for transplant are what was being withheld. Its one thing if you are at deaths door its another to place someone there.
Yes indeed lets continue to post all sides and post during anything regarding this drug. Eventually our "coincidences" will no longer be coincidences and might fall under the category of conspiracy. First do no harm, I hope to God that we are not permanently damaged because of big pharma.
Prayers and healing to us all.
NEWDAY: Yes, see that's the thing I am wondering. I have had hepC for at least 12 years. Probably somewhere between 12 and 15 years. I have absolutely no symptoms at this point, so I'm not sure if I should even worry about treatment right now. But on the other hand, the fact that I have had it over 12 and possibly up to 15 years worries me. Any suggestions? I certainly don't have the money for Harvoni or Sovaldi, and I have crap insurance. And hearing about these people with all these horrible side effects doesn't exactly inspire me. But of course, I don't want to die of HepC/liver cancer/cirrhosis. SO???
I HAVE A COUSIN THEY WENT TO THE DR AROUND HERE HE HAS HIP WAS THAT THE REASON HE GOT SUBTEX THE FIRST VISIT AT THE DR JC,
Contact the maker of the drug. Sometimes you have to make things happen for yourself! In 1995 I contacted Schering Corp. and they supplied me with Interferon and syringes after verification with our local hospital that they would monitor me. Yes, I was a Guinea pig! But I made it happen. Now, since I'm a Veteran they want me to take a drug similar to Harvoni. I go to the VA hospital for an MRI on 6/22. I haven't been told what my enzymes are elevated to, but was told I was a good candidate. Get on the phone!!! There's always a way!
@shade the cost of this is the elephant in the room it's a huge consideration. If this med was even $1,000 per month most wouldn't feel so exploited. At $1,000 per PILL that chged the dynamics, priced gauged many of us feel victimized because of profits. We had zero control of anything. The push to get pts on while the price is HIGH makes some of us feel disgusted. You would think the latter wait for the price to come down. It's all about the $$ on this one.
The way the docs tell a pt their sides are totally irrational is irrational could it be we have no reason to make this up?
So many games are being played with Obama care and docs resentments why blame the patients? They don't want to hear us. End of the day be assured you will be on your own with this one. We stated our issues again so far so good with many others. We feel the profit motive outweighed the pts on this one, I know I do or did.
SHADY63: WOW! Gee, thanks for being so helpful! While your complete lack of compassion and your condescension is greatly appreciated, maybe you shouldn't make assumptions. I have talked to my doctor, my pharmacy, my insurance company, ANOTHER insurance company, as well as Gilead and AbbVie themselves. I have been on the phone so much about this, the damned phone is growing out of my ear. And I STILL would have to pay tens of thousands of dollars, which I don't have. You actually HAVE the drug and are going to possibly NOT take it, and you are giving ME s***? So maybe you should SHOVE your condescending attitude and not make assumptions.
This is all so crazy! This was supposed to be the new miracle drug for HepC, without all the horrible side effects of the Interferon treatment. And it sounds like it's the same damned thing! How can they say that the side effects are minimal in the trials, yet all these people are coming forward with these horrible symptoms? Unreal... I came on here to see if anyone knew how I could get this drug without paying 90 grand, and now I'm thinking I don't even want it! This is all SO discouraging.
I got hepc in 1986 from a blood transfusion after surgery. I had elevated liver enzymes but no cirosis or even fibrosis. I drank alcohol almost daily at times and never had any bad liver problems. It's different for everyone thou. I took harvoni and have had bad side effects and strangely enough can't drink alcohol now at all, it makes me feel terrible. What is up with that. After 6 months out. wow
I was so sick while I was on Harvoni that I think I would have died if I had any alcohol while on treatment. In fact, I can't imagine having anything to drink with Hep C. It will only further harm your liver
NEW DAY: A thousand a pill is a complete joke. The pharma execs must be laughing their asses off. Hell, they could even charge $100 a pill, and make it up in volume of sales. And at that price, insurance companies would be much more likely to pay for the treatment. Unreal. When I heard it was $1000 a pill, I was stunned!
ROBBIE: Not sure what you are asking. Are you wanting to know why someone would be on Subutex? Subutex is a partial agonist/partial antagonist opioid that is usually prescribed to combat opioid addiction, much like methadone is. Since many people contract HepC because of contaminated needles used for injecting other opioids, maybe the two are related in the case of your cousin? Don't know.
i went that way and i only had was a slight headache for the first 1 hr and that was it. i did gt very thirsty. but that was it. any other pain , well it could just be your liver is because the pain. with me , i also had pain and i continued to take Methadone for the pain. well got cured from hepc and feeling better, like my liver is regenerating itself to give me some energy and less pain but still chronic pain that i need to control with Methadone. all said is it is going better and one thing is you have to find things to do then to think about your pain all the time. learn to put it in the back of your mind. i know that when i find a position that i have no pain, i try not to move from that position and enjoy being pain free. but a lot u have to control with your mind. and stay away from others like you. u dont need to live other person pain habits. . good luck. i know what i say is had but it is a hard life being in pain and no one to understand you. old white men that are DR have the most compassion to pain. they have it themselves and their parents too. they have feelings for relief of pain.
Harvoni is an easy ride compared to interferon. I don't want to remember what I experience on interferon and I did not even get cured. I in my case I would classify harvoni as being a little uncomfortable since I was somewhat fatigued but it was never terrible for me. Now have a strange feeling on my legs and painin my feet but it's not horrible . I'm still hopefull it will pass. I try to workout regularly and eat well drink a lot of liquids. I am trying to figure out whats up with the foot pain and how to treat it. Good luck to everyone.
