Yes, you can do that as long as they aren't time released pills and as long as your veterinarian or the pill labeling hasn't warned you not to do so.
There are some pills that would carry such a warning, because they may do damage to the stomach or esophagus if they are crushed and the protective outer coating removed.

Check the labeling and if you see something such as ER, XR, SR or something similar then it is time released and not safe to crush or grind up.
