Getting Off Of Methadone (Page 2)

There are two of us males, early thirties. One of us underwent major back surgery three years ago and has been addicted to pain medication for a total of five years. I have been addicted for about three years just from simply being his main caretaker and dipping into the cookie jar a few to many times like an idiot. We went back to our general doctor (same guy) and explained that we are both full fledged addicts. We told him we have been obtaining Methadone off the street as is seems to be the only thing that works. He asked us what we where getting off the street and we told him Methadone. His response was, "Well that's the smartest thing you have done so far, because of its extremely long effect on the body". We told him we need his help, that we just have no money left and our livers are just a mess and we can't move on with life. He decided to put us both on 100 mgs of Methadone to keep us comfortable until he could make some contacts with the proper addiction specialists that he new. We went for an appointment to his office once every week. We made various contact to different areas, inpatient/outpatient programs, who would not even touch us because we were at too high of a dosage of Methadone. They told us they only work with Suboxone which means we would need to be down to around 20 mgs of Methadone to make the transition to Suboxone. What a nightmare. The doctor also did not have any luck with programs because they where either the scum of the earth clinics, not to mention everyone's famous new drug Suboxone that could be treated in the privacy of a doctors office. About 3 months ago our doctor fell, he herniated a disc or something, all of a sudden was going to be out of the office indefinitely! He never referred us over to another doctor or anything. He just simply CUT US OFF the most potent and dangerous drug out there. Now we are back a square one and no one will touch us because our dosage is too high and there really is nothing they could do. If we could just get us a general doctor to write for pain to get us down to 45 - 50mg, then all these options could open up. A detox would be my first choice, but there is no way in hell we can both come off 100 mgs of Methadone that fast. Anyone know a general doctor in the state of MA that can write for Methadone for pain. That would just help us greatly, but I'm starting to think that there is no hope for us, but I know I cant think like that. Desperate in MA here.

I was on Methadone and MSIR for several years. I was taking 20mg 4 times a day and 15 mg of the MSIR several times a day for break through pain. My life got to a point where it didn't mean anything to me and I didn't care about anything any longer. It wasn't until I hit rock bottom and realised that I was hurting everyone around me and decided to either fix my life or end it to end all the suffering that I had and was causing. What most people don't realise is that Pain Medication is a mind altering drug that will screw you up mentally long term. I ended up quiting cold turkey and almost died but I didn't care because if I didn't fix the problem I would have died anyway. I had two back surgeries that left me with constant pain 24/7 after the doctor damaged my nerve. I was told that I would end up in a wheelchair within five years so I figured that I really didn't have a lot to live for anyway. Well all the doctors were wrong and I am living proof of what can be done when you lose all your fears and take control of your life. I no longer consider myself disabled and I am in better shape then I was twenty years ago. Its mind over body. Good luck getting off the drugs.

well i just read the post n since that day my life has done a spin around to hell im terrofied to come off 90 subutex 90 kolonopin 90 xanax and 60 valium 60 20mg im adderall plus my herbs.... Yea they give an Ex addict those... i have serious anxiety issues... right now depression... this is all from my demons i battle... i almost forgot.. ahh zoloft he has me on 200 mgs.. i barely take the s*** because i started rolling like i was a little kid and in my head i think im not relapsing when actually im comin to grips i need to grab control of my amphetamine / stimulant / mdma problem... well its not a problem.. this house is my life is i am the problem i should just be locked away im such a raging maniac.. i havent left the house in weeks other then for an hour or two.. i dont socialize with anybody trust me my city is scum bagz.. ive learned it all the hardest ways... well 3 girls all got 3 charges on me... all 3 girls are crackhead junkie hookers... that i knew when i use to be a crackhead junkie myself 2 yrs ago.. n then landed n jail watched my life crumble n lost everything etc... well now i see a therapist... and a nueropsychologist before my regular md was giving me xanax 1mg 90 a day they would not let me have those in jail n kicking the methadone was a nightmare i will never touch that s*** because it feels like your bones are coming out of your bones n u cant ever sleep n your in jail its not a fun place to kick everyone knew i was sick.. really sick i knew i was talkin to light sockets floppin my matt from top to th floor 55 times a night my celly hated it but understood he said id be alright in a few weeks... well them 36 day of no sleep or whatever i lost count after 36 cuz i finnaally was givin two trazadone 150s before i had tried this on day 15 i didnt get s*** for sleep my world c rumbled n my head they put me on bs meds and celexa 10mg they gave me librium for my first 3 days i was in medical n then cleareed RIGHT AS THE REALLITY OF OMG METHADONE I SHERE N IM GONNA RIP YOU INTO 8 PEICES came in my body feeling... I have jack s*** someone stole my xanax paper ... a ex girlfriend ... dumb broad last month my house got robbed so cut that out the picture... somehow im out of meds i have 300 on a paypal refund... and i lost my weed my pills r all dust i have like 2 left out of what is there 7 8? and all from the same doctor.. my question is this... my doctor is a neuropsych thats higher then a psych n hes been doing it for 36 years he reminds me of a weird albert einstein but he is a smart man n what he did give me i did do good with n when i slipped i did get the penalty.. but If im being incarcerated pending Bail ,, or trial... why am i revoked of my medication ? ive been on this for 2 years and im suppose to be alright? this is serious im bout to hi tail it to jamaica n dye myself brown n learn to play the drums .. cuz im terrorfied of the demons that are gonna haunt me... the voices the everything omg its sickkkk n that was only off some xanax dope coke n usin adderall fora month last time 2 years ago... this is gonna break me ... i dont know what to say but HELP WITH ANY ADVICE?? LEGALITY? HOW CAN I GET MY MEDICATION? there was 1 kid in the med unit did his whole bid there he was gettin valium everyday... i dont get it.. he told me he died n thats why.. his doctor flipped... well my doctor loves to flip on ignorance in the world.. i drop n have a seizure n demand they call them n start throwing feshes at the wall... im sure ill get a call in... and when i was sentenced EVEN THE JUDGE stated... i could have my medications while in jail before slaming the gavel.. last time... they just dont care u become a number... n if i hear that drake song again.. imma be the next number to hang itup... im not in the mood to work out n read books eat soy n be hungry talk about crime n listen to the drama .... the silence is golden... its golden.... 24 k... but anyone out there know anything bout this... situation... we have a s***ty sheriff... and this is county jail upstate u get your meds im told... by inmates that been there... but this is no joke i remember i was so anti social then i was just a add case runnin around wit my head chopped off laughin at life to pickin up trash on a highway to finnaly home first f***ing thoughts on the driive home... wonder what i still have left.. like 6 xannys some valiums n 16 adderall.. n that was it.... 730 days later.... here we are i pray to god im so religious but my family is going nuts cuz of this s*** n we are hating each other i broke down today.. men dont do that til they really break.. from the fightin yellin harassment i just wanna honestly relapse because of the stress right now n make sure im not alive to be put through this.. call me a b**** but sorry psychical n mental and a fd up life is a beatrice

I would sell my soul at this point for rapid drug detox i am straight bridge bound at this point i just dont know how to afford rapid drug detox and dont understand why mass health wont cover it.... Im in so much pain everyday I cant keep this up

I don't know how things work in the US but here in Canada once a doctor knows that you are an addict your name is sent to the college of physcians and you can't get pain med prescriptions. I have had back issues for many years and unfortunatley the Dr i had put me on oxy's and I quickly became addicted to them. So I am going to a methadone clinic. The methadone helps with the withdrawal symptoms from coming off the oxy's and it also works pretty good for the pain along with an anti inflammatory. More than likely I will be on methadone for a long time to come but it was the best decision for me. The decision to go to a methadone clinic depends on your own personal situation. Everyone is differant. Its a good choice for some and not for others. Be sure to look at all your options before you decide what will be best for you.

Dude, go to a clinic, they aren't the scum of the earth, they lie and say you need to be on it.. but u guys actually do. You live up north so It heard it could be free. You r already on the meth monster! You need to go to a clinic with that dose and tell them what happened. Tell them u r drug seeking cause u need methadone. They will accept u and dose u on the early morning days the doc comes in. I dont know how it works up north...

Also, they will bring u down to a comfortable dose, and yes u will prob have to go every morning until u pass all your urines. And then u start getting take homes. Either i would say u havent been on done long enough, kick it, but u guys have pain.... And some docs wont help ppl in pain. And clinics all u have buddy....

ive been on meth for 12 yrs and im in the process of a home detox here in the uk its all totally free of charge thank god! but i wudnt recommend meth to anyone im gonna now study to become a drug councellor myself, im detoxing off the meth with a drug called lofexadine (britlifex) think thats how its spelt! and buscopan for the stomach cramps, and paracetamol for the pain i was also given some nausea pills for the sickness but didnt need those but each person is different. im a single parent of 5 and ive done it whilst looking after them! i think they made me stronger cos i didn't want them seeing me ill, im on day 5 of being clean now and i tapered myself slowly down to 15mls from 90mls then down by 2mls a week until i got to 8mls then went down again by 2mls a day until 4mls then didnt take anymore meth and started having the lofexadine. you have to build them up slowly then down again slowly over about 12 days cos they help you manage the withdrawals, im not gonna lie its not been a bed of roses, my skin felt like it was burning and tightening but those lofexadine help with that a lot!! i still feel like crap but its getting better, ive learn't that your body needs to be strong and healthy to get you through this im taking magnesium and calcium and zinc with 4 other ingredients in these osteocare tablets and multivitamins to help because doing this takes such a lot out of your body that you really do need something im gonna get some vitamin 7 as well to help me get better quicker, ive also been given some zopiclone to help sleep not that ive slept much. Hey, how are you? good by the sound's of things. your story has gave me hope my name is Nikki i am a 29 yr old male from Edinburgh, Scotland U.K and i've been on methadone for 8 years i was on 120ml liquid form 1mg/1mg not the sugar free that s*** gave me mega upset stomach so i get the sugar stuff but i came down to 60ml not too long ago i just done a 2week total withdrawl from methadone but couldn't go any longer as i was loosing my sanity in fear of totally loosing my last grasp of reality so basically i'm back numb, emotionless and depressed and i can't build up the drive that i got the last time i detoxed it took so much out of my body i still ain't back to even stable. what do you advise i need to build up myself to combat this before it gets too late i wanna be clean by November when i turn the dreaded 30 aahhh!!! even a few tips would be so appreciative, kind and used as ammo to get as u put it " the visor lifted". thanks alot

Hello Everyone, I have been on Methadone for 3 yrs, started at 100mgs and I am now at 56mgs and started a personal detox today Please God let it work...4:30 am was 24 hrs from my last dose and i honestly feel ok.For Know, i know that's not going to last. Anyway I have 30 20mg oxy's if I start to feel blah, I have Klonpin, trazadone and seroquil to take to sleep through this if i must. I took a week off work, So I will not take anything Sat or Sun, start oxy Mon, Tues and nothing Wed, go to get Suboxone from a doc Thurs and have till Tues to get back to work....Does this make sense. Am i doing this right..IDK, What i do know is that i am tired of being in liquid hancuffs and I want a normal life....Please any feedback would be completely appreicated...Thanks

Does rapid detox work for methadone? I am on 150 mgs of methadone and 200 mgs of mscontin twice a day. I have severe neuropathy of the spine. I would rather deal with the pain than be addicted. Some MD's have said I would need to switch to a shorter acting drug like fentanyl orthers have not. So I am in a quandry. Also I am considering a facility called MDS in Michigan. I am hoping that there might be someone with information about the rapid detox. If anyone has had experience with MDS that would also be mos appreciated. Thanks, Ral

My brother was in a similar situation and being in hospital saved him not only could he not get any but being on the pain melds he won't notice the detox he has been given a gift at a price never the less its up to him wot he does with it but when he gets discharged he will be clean, go from there you have seen the signs and know wot to look for. I wish you the best and hope he can see wot he has done ..

Since when does Methadone attack the liver? Are you sure you don't have Hepatitis C?

1. The person with back problems would do well to go to a pain clinic. This person may have an easier time at it because having a legitimate reason for taking it has been known to make a difference in some people. When I started my self-controlled detox, I went from 120 to 80, dropping 10mg over the course of a month and then "sitting on it" for a month or so. My biggest problem is that the pain is excruciating and the only thing that works is the ol' "Adolfeen" (play on "Dolophine" Methadone's original name, developed at the behest of Adolf Hitler).

2. The other person might want to try a methadone detox program. Better yet, face the music and take your lumps like a grown-up (I wanted to say "like a man"). The toughest part about detox is fear.

Anybody who says methadone doesnt work there people who don't want to get off, you wanna feel high i dropped from 100 to 20 in a year and a Half You have to want it, how important is your life to you? You can do it you just gotta believe and truly want it.

I hate methadose which is a far cry from methadone... Im coming down 5mgs per week and had to stop. I want it but miss my son and "they will not allow me to have him while detoxing off methadose" plus since I am detoxing technically, no program will touch me. Back to craigslist ads for me.

Hi. I'm a 41 yr old nurse who has battled addiction to opiates and other substances for the last 15 yrs. I am down to 10mg a day with 20 ten mg tabs of methadone left. I also have Klonopin to help. My feet are cramping and sometimes I feel so low, but it doesn't seem to last too.. long. The intensity scares me though. Any suggestions. My funds are limited as far as doctors visits go. I would have to go to an ER. I want off! I have been on for about 18 mths. with the highest dose being 40mg and down to 30mg for the past 4 months and 20mg for 2 mths. 10mg for about 3 weeks. help.......

If you do a little research, on the internet, you will find that the withdrawal, from Methadone, is just as bad at 5 mg per day as it is at 120 mgs per day.
My suggestion to you is to go cold turkey. Do not listen to the clinic you go too. They will tell you you have to ween down. This way they are still making their money off of you. And when you finally do get down to a low dose they will try to keep you there by telling you it is not safe to quit.
I went from about 90 mgs per day to nothing. And I am still free.
In fact, I do not even crave it at all.
I will tell you this, the withdrawal is not too pleasant. And it will not be even if you ween down. Save your money and go cold turkey. And do yourself a big favor and do not use alcohol to get through the withdrawal. Then you become dependent on that.
Just remember as each hour goes by that you have made it through yet another hour. If you take one sip of the liquid handcuffs you will be right back where you started and you will have to start all over again.
Take it minute by minute, hour by hour and day by day. You can do! If I can do it you certainly can.
And make sure you attend meetings to keep your motivation up.
I have been free of the liquid hand cuffs since June of 2012 and I feel fantastic. I did not realize the haze the methadone had me in for the 6 years I was on it. I am loving life and loving sobriety.
You can do it. Just commit yourself to stopping and do it. Do not ween down. Just quit and say good bye to the liquid hand cuffs.

I am on 4 30mg roxys an also take 4 methadones every 4th day suppose to take 2 a day. Went to the doc on Saturday an he took me off the methadone which I could have filled on Monday now I have as script of roxys that I cant fill for ten days an nothing to take. My ? Is being that I was only taking 10mg every 4th day do u think I will go through methadone withdraw I can deal with the roxy not the methadone

I've been on 200 mgs methadone for 8 years and the Doc just stopped. It is a nightmare as now you mention it and you get nowhere. This was encouraged 10 years ago but not now with no exit off this med. you have to find a clinic for addicts and explain your situation. Forget private doctors.
I'm going to go for rapid detox which costs around $10000 and in cash.
