Getting Prescriptions From 2 Different Doctors For Pain Meds But There Are Conditions (Page 20)
UpdatedWell I just really need to know if what I am doing is considered doctor shopping. I fell at at department store and injured my knee. Now I have to go to the doctor the lawyer sent me to. He prescribes pain meds for me but the only thing he can treat is my knee. I started having back problems. My primary care doctor sent me to a different doctor and he also gives me meds. But the pharmacy said they would call the doctors and tell on me. So I went and ahead and told the doctors myself so that it would not look as bad. What do you think will happen to me? The pharmacy refused to give me back my prescription. Can they do that?
Christopher, what date did you fill the first script for oxycodone 10? Usually the insurance co allows you to fill a script 2 days before you run out. For example, if my Dr writes me oxy 10 #60 take 2 tabs per day every month, my insurance Co will allow or pay for it every 28 days. If the pharmacists policy is not to fill it till the 30th day that's her perogative tho. If your Dr would simply change the number of pills you're allowed to take on the instructions that changes things. The pharmacist would have to fill it because you'll run out too soon. I hope that makes sense. You should let your Dr know the pharmacy refused to fill until the 10th.
Mpathia, I agree 100%. I feel we're experiencing a national disaster.
I'm on the 11th day of a 15 day script and they said I can't fill it for another 2 days, go figure. Prescriber never even upped dosage just wrote the same script so it makes sense why it wasn't filled. Dr's having their own front desk prescription writers seems to be the problem here. I needed the dosage changed. :((((
Yes, you need the dosage changed, Christopher. I'm pretty sure you've got this figured out but since we're here & since I've appointed myself your advisor, I just wanted to go ahead and encourage you to call the Dr's office in the mornin and ask them to clarify whether they mean for you to be able to take another one or two tabs per day when the pain is at its worst or whether they're providing more meds to cover you for more days. Ok, grasshopper? Good luck with your recovery!
I called the doctor's office this afternoon regarding the dosage problem and the script not being allowed to be filled. I should be getting a call back sometime tomorrow morning. I have a follow up appt Thursday but let's hope this can be handled by tomorrow!!
Thanks again for all the help
Keikee! Great news, some how some way, the script was filled. Same exact script I was written last time though so I'm confused as to how it happened. I'm just happy to say I'm not sweating in pain right now!
I'm so happy to hear that, Christopher! It's great to hear things worked out for you. You enjoy the rest of your week and weekend. Remember not to over do it where your recovery is concerned!
I really appreciate the help throughout all of this, people like you aren't abundant enough in this world.
Enjoy your weekend as well!
Christopher
So I have an appt Friday with my va dr and I have spoken to the patient advocate. So far everyone I have spoken to tells me the va doesn't call law enforcement in on situations like mine. I am getting ready to loose the Rx for my oxy but that's fine, I don't want trouble and I want to be honest. What I can't wrap my head around is why my pain management dr kept me on as a patient after I messed up. I know one of his nurses hates me for sure. I wish I could make it up but how?
Sgtcholo, Continue being the gentleman you are. Maybe you could write a short note thanking the dr and staff for continuing to take such great care of you! A couple times a year I'd make a big bowl of cut up fruit for my docs office. That or I'd make 2 pans of my organic energy bars and take one to my appt for the drs and nurses. Those people are hungry!!!! Hahaha.
That's funny keikee. We always take cookies n candy etc on holidays to our doctor n staff. My husband n I had our monthly appt today. We have been seeing him for 2 years and today we had to sign forms that we are getting pain meds n he had to write down the phone number of our pharmacy. Then he said he didn't know how long they are going to let him prescribe pain meds to his patients. He might have to refer everyone to pain management. That is insane cuz most around here will not take new patients. Then what do u do?
Did you ask who would not allow him to not to be able to prescribe pain meds? If he say CDC those are suggestions and as long as he is a MD or DO he can prescribe the meds. The only exception to that is if he works for some Corp clinic who may insist there doctors no longer prescribe pain meds.
No but I think it is the CDC n he is just running scared. He has his own practice n he is the only doctor there. They can suggest but they can't enforce a doctor to stop prescribing pain meds to their patients can they? He is not over prescribing or giving scripts before the one month that they are due.
No if he is not over prescribing and doing drug panels once in awhile the doctor should have no problems. I think the DEA goes after doctors who are prescribing to 1000's of patients. The last doctor I read who got in trouble was prescribing pain meds to 10,000 patients. He had something like 4 PA who were seeing patients but this one doctor name signed all the scripts. But doctor's are just being stupid and not caring about their patients.
Yes! You are doctor shopping. please tell the doc the attorney sent you to that you cannot accept pain Rx from him. You can get in to serious trouble. In some places its a felony. Tell your dr.you didn't know what to do.You didn't want to appear to be non compliant pt. Do not attempt to fill pain Rx from more than one MD. They (both drs) can refuse to write for any pain meds and lable you an addiction problem. Good Luck!
I'm seeing pain management doc prescribing 20mg oxycodone 2 every 6 hrs. I just finished taper from 100mcg fentanyl patch so I don't take that as of this week. Just had a root canal yesterday n dentist gave Rx for percocets. So filling them would be illegal? And pain management doc will find out even if I pay out of pocket not using my insurance? Then he will probably cut me off n I'll be screwed n in withdraw, sick as a lab rat...
Steve000 , filling the dentist prescription isn't illegal. BUT, if you sign a pain contract and agreed to only have your pain treated by your pain dr, your pain dr will more than likely dismiss you and it will be difficult, if not impossible, to find another dr to manage yor pain. Your drs, dentist and pharmacists can see all of the opiates prescriptions that you have gotten filled for pain meds in your states Prescription Monitoring Program Database and depending on your state laws, they may be able to see other prescriptions that you have gotten filled. In most states, drs are required to look up patient profiles before they write a prescription for opiates to all patients.
So have i would should i need the meds im addicted to them and I take more than I should I see 3 different doctors and I get three scripts of oxy 15s a month ive been doing it over 3years now and i pay cash and go to three different pharmacy but i use my medical insurance for all visit and i dont no if the dea is watching me or not my ex call my pharmacy and told them im doctor shopping i live i phila pa so whats should i do like im so scared now bc i dont want to go to jail and i need my meds im in so much pain every day its crazy someone plz help me and let me no what to do here plz
The first thing you need to do is stop going to all three doctors. It will only be a matter of time before you are caught. If you are seeing primary doctor for your care you should see a pain specialist instead for your pain. Since you are willing to doctor shop shows you have problems taking opiates and would be best to find better ways to deal with your pain then taking opiate medication. It is rare but sometimes the opiate medications can actually cause you to be in more pain then before you started taking the pills.
One doc gives me 50 7.5 tabs other 90 10miligrams one 2x a day the other 3x a day. Is this doctor shoppinh
Bumblebee, the answer to your question is yes, you're most definitely dr shopping. I'm absolutely shocked anyone can get away with this these days.
