Getting Prescriptions From 2 Different Doctors For Pain Meds But There Are Conditions (Page 19)
UpdatedWell I just really need to know if what I am doing is considered doctor shopping. I fell at at department store and injured my knee. Now I have to go to the doctor the lawyer sent me to. He prescribes pain meds for me but the only thing he can treat is my knee. I started having back problems. My primary care doctor sent me to a different doctor and he also gives me meds. But the pharmacy said they would call the doctors and tell on me. So I went and ahead and told the doctors myself so that it would not look as bad. What do you think will happen to me? The pharmacy refused to give me back my prescription. Can they do that?
Posters,
There is unnecessary government intervention on all pain patients throughout the U.S. I have written on this topic and post regularly to the trending post 'where can I get pain medication' for many stop there first and I have given support to all with intractable pain since I was injured many years ago.
The V.A. is under serious scrutiny as it stands. There are many not few not receiving proper medical care or appointments in a timely manner. But when it comes to their opioid contracts several physicians took years to leave the system who were writing too many opioids to too many Veterans.
All being said BL insults many on any given day and is neither a licensed health care professional or even a pain patient. If he or she was they would have told their story a long time ago when questioned by regulars posting here. Please ignore these posts and move on to someone who may care enough to give you sound advice.
The V.A. should realize an acute episode when a patient sees the dentist for an abscess or an extraction will REQUIRE above the normal baseline opioid dosage. That means what handles your chronic and intractable pain will need extra, or a different type of opioid to kill that pain. Further they cannot surmise when handed a scrip that a patient is a physician or nurse knowing for example that it is the same opioid written and not an antibiotic for example. Shame on anyone leading this poster to the depths of hell on this post!
I would though be up front on this matter to relieve your anxiety. I do not think the FEDS will beat at your door but the government has no right under our Constitution to be controlling physicians which they are currently. This will pass as does Odumma. But we have a few long years to with hold and hang until we are back to proper opioid management for IP.
Best of luck to you soldier keep us posted!
Sgt,
Be adamant that you went to the pain specialist for inj's. only--for all you know he may have prescribed the Oxycontin in a different strength, or amount taken; for example you may have been on 30 mg. TID and he wrote 80 mg. QID. If that is the case you have a right to the different prescription, and with the VA sending out medications in a six month time frame they are backed up on data paperwork too!
I would be frank and tell the VA doctor you wanted inj's. not available in his practice and you told the physician you were on PM with the VA. When he wrote a prescription you did not check it until you went to the pharmacy period.
I believe you will be ok my friend hang tight. This is no time in America to lose your pain specialist, keep them until we have two years without Oduma and pain management restores to scientific basis.
The va Drs tried to send me almost an hour out of town for my back shots cuz they said they didn't have a specialist where I lived. That's what started this whole mess. And yes it's true their three little pills where not doing anything for my pain so upon my initial interview with the pm dr I told him that but I did neglect to say that I was still seeing them or misunderstood that I was supposed to cancel the va pills. I honestly didn't know I was doing something wrong. I wasn't trying to doop my dr at the pain clinic. But I did want something more for the pain. So here's the news, I called the PM dr office and asked if the cops would be called? They told me no that it was against hippa cuz I wasn't selling forging or stealing I guess. I didn't try to hide my actions either by going to different pharmacy I used the same one. That's how honest I'm being that I didn't think it was wrong. But I still find myself looking out the window every day guys n gals. So should I believe the dr office with what they said?
They have no reason to lie to you as far as the police showing up at your door. You will be fine unless you give yourself a heart attack first :-).
I'll second that motion, Jenifer.
BL, my point about the cops was meant for SgtCholo who received one or two scripts from a civilian dr in addition to his VA doc. I was simply helping him realize accepting a script from a second dr will not get him arrested. Geez.
Adding to the Gentleman's post about making it harder for the people who really suffer. If your having that hard of a time that you use a month's supply in 2 hours you should have a trusted family member divvy them out to you. Stop playing games and use ONE doctor. If he/she isn't taking proper care of you find one that will. But for goodness sakes stick with one Doctor. As he said, you only make it harder for us folks who have a legitamate need. People, you know Doctor shopping is illegal, you put yourself and your Doctor in peril, and if the Doctor decides to hammer you, good for him, you deserve just what you get. Sorry to be so hard core about this, but you know what your doing is WRONG, and it hurts everyone else.
It's an old post but anyone who reads this ABOVE IS THE REASON ALL LEGIT PATIENTS FIND IT NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND RELIEF BECAUSE OF A**HOLES TRYING TO SUBVERT THE SYSTEM. SORRY TO BE HARSH BUT THESE PEOPLE NAUSEATE ME. We ALL NEED TO BLAST THESE PEOPLE RATHER THAN BLAMING DOCS, PHARMACY, DEA, FDA, BIG PHARMA. How about simple self discipline AND ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE ONES ABUSING THESE POWERFUL MIND ALTERING NARCOTICS!!!
Bl, wtf are you talking about????? If you're going to insist on putting your penny's worth on every thread here, at least have enough respect to actually READ the post you're attempting to discredit or correct or overrule or whatever it is you think you're doing.
I believe I have overstayed my welcome here. Hot heads are prevailing and that is not the atmosphere I want to be around. Thank you to the few that heard me out. Take care
FYI I came clean with my va advocate and also told my pain management Doctor that I refused my last mail order of my oxy from the va. To show good faith that I wasn't abusing. I still have a good amount from the va Rx. Like I have said in past post. My mind was in another place. Now something that two individuals have recently said was that I hadn't committed dr shopping yet. But that doesn't make any sense to me. One was a ..... I'll leave it at that.
What a relief, Sgt.! I'm happy that things are working out for you. Take care of yourself. I really think it's time for me to move on as well. I've allowed one that should be a counterpart drive me to behave like a high schooler. I'd say that's a good signal for me to take off. EEK. Sorry all!
I recently had a back operation within the last month, double lumbar disectomy to be specific. I had it done by a surgeon who is out of my state and he recently sent me a script for 5mg oxycodones. I'm receiving 10mg oxycodones from the surgeon I followed up with in my home state, they are all for 15 day prescriptions. Would I get in trouble for filling the out of state script at my in-state pharmacy while also receiving the other 10mg scripts from the specialist here? I am still in severe pain and the 10mg dosage alone only brings the pain down to a tolerable level that often keeps me up at night.
Any advice would be appreciated
Here's what will happen, Christopher;before filling any narcotic, your pharmacist will look at the pharmacy board's data base & see that you have the "in state" follow up surgeon who's writing narcotics for you & she'll see you have your out of state Physician who's also writing for you. She'll call both drs and you'll be SOL. Recipe for disaster. If you feel that you need both those meds I'd advise you to tell your doc the oxycodone 10-15s aren't covering your pain.
I mean, fill one or the other but not both!
Thank you for the reply!, I'm about a month out and still in pain, the doctor should up the dosage if I ask right? I left a message stating it's not bringing it down to a tolerable level. I mean it was a spinal surgery, so I wouldn't think that I'd have a problem?
And I haven't filled the script from the out of state doctor yet and I just got a call back from my in state docs office to see if they can help me. Since I haven't filled the out-of-state it won't be in the system, correct?
Thank again!
Right, Christopher, until you fill the script it's not in the data base. As far as you letting the doc's office know you still can't sleep well with the pain, burning etc, I'm thinking they will give you something stronger or allow you to take two tabs rather than one. There's a slight chance the two docs are exchanging notes re: your medical care. If so, one may've seen that the other doc wrote for the extra meds. If they ask you about that, you can tell them that you wouldn't think of filling that script and you'll happily send it back to the doc who wrote it or they can tear it up in front of you. Whatever you do, don't be tempted to try & fill it.
Yes, they "can" Just like how they are keeping us in pain. Now only ONE Dr. can write your scripts. America the Beautiful my butt.
Those days are gone.
They sent over a script for more 10mg oxycodones and told me to call the pharmacy to make sure it can be filled, they said nope, not til the 10th. These laws are rediculous, I just had spine surgery!
I appreciate all the help! Is this the pharmacists decision? Or the insurance companies?
