Generic Vs Brand Meds Of Adderall
UpdatedHello All: Eight years ago I had a gastric bypass losing from 294# to 117# (too low for a 61 yr. old female). Currently 145# & feel good from weight standpoint. I have had many adversities from the bypass with 4 subsequent small bowel resections. I cannot absorb generic meds. This leads me to excess costs on all of my meds. I was changed from brand Lexapro to escitalopram (generic) in June and by Sept., I was suicidal and required intensive treatment until I could get the brand Lexapro. My insurance (Medicare Advantage Plan) is a nightmare to cover any of the brand named meds even when my Psychiatrist states Brand medically necessary. Am also taking Wellbutin SR 450mg/day which is over the recommended max. dose. Dr. is wanting to change me from Wellbutrin SR to Adderall 30mg hoping this adjunct therapy with the Lexapro will make a huge difference. I have been on the Lexapro/Wellbutrin combo for over 4 years and it is time for a change. Can someone please tell me any experiences with the brand Adderall vs the generic? I understand from reading that there are differences in the Barr generic brand and Shire brand name drug. I also take Xanax 1mg as needed which I tolerate well, and 50mg Deseryl at night as needed for sleep (rarely use). I was never on any antidepressants or antianxiety agents until my 33 yr. old son and his 28 yr old wife died suddenly in an airplane crash. The only other meds I use are Tenormin for irregular heart rate and Lasix for generalized edema. I had to leave my job as a hospital RN after 25+years which has led to even worse depression. I would appreciate if anyone can give me an idea about the Adderall. Is it expensive and does it work? I am dx with Major Depressive Disorder, OCD, Panic Disorder, PTSD and Prolonged grief. There are also elements of ADD. I have basically shut down and am fearful of others especially crowds. I isolate so badly and have no self esteem. I was so active and full of life. I was very social and loved to be with and help others. Now, I am basically withdrawn, very fatigued, severe memory problems, much fear and just unable to function day-to-day as a normal human being. I appreciate any help and will be happy to be of help to anyone that can use any of my experiences to help. Thank You and Blessings to all.
I've never used Adderall, or any of that class of medications, but I can tell you that with your having the irregular heart rate, plus the anxiety, it is not likely that it is safe for you to take, since it is a stimulant class medication.

Unfortunately, it can actually worsen both of those conditions.
What type of doctor are you working with for your treatment? A general physician or a specialist?
A psychiatrist a a large teaching hospital. They said we have to outweigh the benefits and risks. I did start the Adderall. They stopped the Wellbutrin entirely. With 10mg Adderall in the am and 10mg in the pm I have done excellent. I am focused, I can concentrate. I am calm and relaxed, I actually laugh. There have been minimal episodes of SVT/PVCs (no more than usual). Thank you so much for your response.
I just picked up my generic adderall 30mg from Publix and these I've never seen before. Usually, the generics I get are sweet & round or sometimes oval... These new ones are not sweet at all & they do not seem to have any strength!...always so expensive!! I looked them up: peach flat round pill U31 on one side. Found they are manuf. by Aurolife Pharma in NJ (USA)...parent co. Is in India...does this company have a good or bad reputation for their generic drugs/adderall...are they like so many others: there generics r basically trash? Waste of $? Or do they have a good reputation? Please get back to me -- I have been on internet for 3 hrs & cannot find 1 article on Aurolife Pharma & their generic quality or anything about their generic adderall... Thank you!
i just got these aurolife pharma adderall's fillled (pill with stamp U30) from a local pharmacy here in brooklyn near my new apartment i just moved to and i agree with you, they are weak as s***. i feel like they are placebo pills. i have to drink several cups of espresso along with the adderall to feel somewhat normal to get my day to day tasks done. this company needs to be banned from making adderall. i want my b973's back, they at least worked by themselves to help my severe ADD, now i'm back to being scatter brained...thank god for espresso lol
I refilled my 20 mg. Adderall at a CVS in Miami. No more B973 only U30 they said. My experience is exactly like the last two posts I read. No effect of my lack of alertness and focus I received from the B973 (Teva Pharmaceuticals). U30 (Aurolife Pharmacy LLC's parent company is Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. in Hyderabad, India). Look into Aurobindo's legal suits, FDA investigations in lack of quality control, and many other problems. I am currently looking into local pharmacies that carry quality medicine, not "who knows what". Well for know, I'm back to 'off on tangents ' and lack of focus. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions they are most welcome.
I agree entirely, I only get dizzy spells and often more agitated every few months they give this junk to me and I hate it.
I had my prescription filled at a CVS last week and didn't even check to see who the manufacturer was until I felt the most intense chest pain followed by an excruciating headache only to later be followed by what felt like someone kneeling on my back stabbing me over and over with a knife in between my shoulder blades. I thought I was going to die but was in so much pain that I couldn't move and actually began to pray that I'd die just so the pain would stop. Aurobindo pharma 20mg tablets. CVS in California. I must have gotten the super potent batch of pills.
Sorry I forgot to include the following info:
Instant release
Amphetamine salts (Generic Adderall)
20 mg /2x daily
If I had taken 2 in one day I probably would have gone into cardiac arrest.
Why aren't generic brand manufacturers more closely monitored by the FDA??!!!
They are awful....zero efficacy for me
Wow, I'm so surprised everyone above has had such a bad experience with the Aurobindo generic Adderall. I just got a scirp filled yesterday at CVS and went back this morning to find out who the maker is because it worked SO WELL. My last scrip was from TEVA and I was starting to worry I was building up a resistance to it, because it was working very, very poorly. I get 30mg and break each pill into quarters, then take a quarter in the morning and another quarter (or even an eighth) in the early afternoon.
Yesterday, first day trying the Aurobindo, I had an experience similar to the very first day I ever tried meds for ADD - total focus for hours. Today, same thing. (That was definitely not happening with the TEVA.)
Just wanted to put up an alternative experience here, in case someone else comes along wondering whether to fill with generic Aurobindo. I find the it absolutely awesome...so awesome I'm now worried I'll never see it again and I'll be back to TEVA or Sandoz (which, if I'm not mistaken, is generally more effective than TEVA for most people).
I thought I was totally crazy...I got my script for 20mg adderall filled at the end of last month at CVS and received the U30, light orange ones manufactured by Aurolife Pharma, LLC as well. They are terrible. I take 2 when I wake up and it takes hours before I can tell they have effected me in any way. tried taking 2 1/2 together thinking that would help and then feel like I am having a panic attack. I normally get the round pink 20mg and they work great. I will make sure next month I verify what manufacture they have in stock. Never again!
I just picked mine up from CVS and they changed to to the new generic you are referring to and I hate them. I took one 30mg and fell asleep within 35 min, the old generic they use to carry never did that. In fact I was able to function normally on the older generic. I'd ask before picking up another, next time I'm trying Walgreens
I contacted the CVS customer service dept. to find out what to do about switching back to TEVA from Aurobindo Pharma and the rep said to call the pharmacy and have them make a note in your chart as to which manufacturer you prefer so that they can order them from that manufacturer the next time you request a refill.
Got a refill on my adderall 4 data ago & got the ones with u30 on them. Never had them before. They're terrible. I strongly suggest anyone getting their refill at cvs specify that they don't want this brand or go somewhere else.
I just got the u30 pills as well and they really suck. Only thing I got was a headache and I had to drink a strong cup of tea to stay alert. Why did CVS have to switch?! I am going to ask next time I go what brand they have before filling my script.
Previously CVS was filling Adderall generic scripts w TEVA's generic version

After reading your message I decided to take 1/4 (5mg) of the 20 mg tablet. WOW, it worked perfectly; this must be the way the medicine is supposed to work! They are excellent! I usually take the entire 20 mg tablet twice daily but with these Aurobindo Pharma pills I only need 5 mg. My guess is that the batch was botched and the active ingredients and the filler must have been unevenly distributed. The pills we got must be highly concentrated amphetamine salts with very little filler--the way they SHOULD be!!! Not sure how I'm ever going to be able to go back to the crappy water-downed version. If I am correct, it's no wonder why I felt like I was going to die after taking only 20 mg because one 20mg tablet is equivalent to 80 mg. --??
These meds absolutely suck. My ADHD symptoms have never been so poorly managed since being treated at any point in time. Cvs screwed me over hard this month but I learned a valuable lesson. I hope I can talk to my doctor to get a script for something else till I can refill at a diff pharmacy and back to my old generic. Seriously counterfeit. Have been considering contacting the FDA and DEA.
Contact CVS customer service and FDA.
Sounds like to me, you, along with a lot of other people need to start practicing drug holidays. I don't care what anyone says if you're taking 30-35mg of any brand adderall and falling asleep when it kicks in...then you have an extremely high tolerance. It won't matter what brand you take, and any single pill is going to suck. Some may suck worse, but they all will. Take breaks from it. 1-2 days a week or 4-5 days every 6-8 weeks.

Brett, how did you identify the brand as Aurobindo? And what has been your experience with different brands since then. I know it was a long time ago.
Re: Ali (# 53)
How did it go?
??hoping you see this and that you are doing well!
To save you time I shall say that I have tried all available generic brands of Adderall IR and Adderall XR, the second (XR) being the most helpful. I will not mention the bad ones, what for? I want to share with you the most reliable generics for Adderrall IR or XR based on my a couple of decades of being a mental patient and believe me, I have tried everything in the market. The ones that never fail and are very consistent are the ones from SHIRE or SANDOZ, forget about wasting your time with the rest. If your insurance does not cover any of your meds, I have good news for you and for all. I should not post any links here but I take this opportunity to ask the administrators of this forum if they let me publish a link that can benefit patients BIG TIME when buying cash prescriptions.
Real example: My insurance does not cover generic Xanax (alprazolam) 2mg. 60 tablets a month. I went to a pharmacy that charged me $85.00 cash for my script and I said NO NO NO. Browsing the internet looking for savings on my script, I found this place, is new, I went there, entered my medication, milligrams and quantity, also registered my zipcode. In a blink I found out that I had to pay only $10.00 for my script, paid them over the internet and they offered me a menu of participating pharmacies in my area. I just had to go to pharmacy with their voucher document and my prescription and that was it. I highly recommend this, especially for low income people like me. BLESSINGS TO ALL!!!
Re: jimmy (# 4)
Coffee and espresso are contraindicated with adderall. The acid makes it less effective
I've been on generic Adderall XR 30 mg 2 times /day and they do absolutely nothing for me. I still fall asleep while driving by 2 pm every day. I am finally going to start on the name brand Adderall XR 30 mg 2 times a day. My question is: I'm wondering if they will be more effective than the generic and if I will feel the difference immediately?
Re: Nicole (# 27)
That’s really interesting you say that- they made me really nauseous at first too! But I stuck with them, because I had no other choice. After a week or two I got used to them and I no longer get nauseous- they actually work better for me now then other brands. I just think it’s ridiculous that the “same” drug can vary so much from brand to brand. It’s not right.
Re: Baddgoat (# 20)
Actually as first time taker for 10mg ER adderral put me to sleep so I don't think it has to do with tolerance
I know this is pretty old but how many days did that last?? I received the Auro kind for the first time and thought they were pretty good the 1st day or two. After that - GARBAGE!! Very little effect, almost nothing, major headaches, and severe short term memory loss... and BTW are you still taking these? I noticed you wrote "WOW....this is how they're supposed to work" at the beginning - then at the end wrote how they made you "feel like I want to die". That's the kind of thing you say when you're LOOKING FOR that type of a "high" where you feel like you want to die... I know from past experience so just trying to help.
I'm so sorry that you are having to deal with so much. I have some of the same diagnosis and I am just now starting to work through healing and deliverance. To answer your question though, none of the generic adderall work the same as the brand, but you can only set xr in brand. Costco has lower prices and there are coupons on the internet. Barr/teva seems to be the standard and Walgreens carries them still where I live. Nothing has been quite as potent as it used to be and sandoz is super hard to find and corepharma stopped manufacturing.
I pray in Jesus name for your full and complete physical and emotional healing.
Were they pink and Calle corepharma they are a total rip off I believe they migh be off the market
