Gabapentin Withdrawals (Page 10) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI'm being taken off of Neurontin/Gabapentin after seven years. I'm now crying, anxious, and itching all over! I have tried antihistamines and cortisone creams but with no relief.
My wife has been taking Klonopin for a long time she been abusing it. She took 50 Kalana pins in three days with no intentions of ever stopping she also takes Suboxone The very next day I cut her down to 3 mg per day of Clonopin and well milligrams of Suboxone per day And 1800 mg of gabapentin She suffered no withdraws amazingly I have spent thousands of dollars in detox centers she has been to detox eight times I also gave her 1 mg of Klonopin at night and in the middle of the day I gave her one pill of hydroxyzine Between this she is with draw free
I was on 100 mg of gabepentin at bedtime for about 8 mths ! Spoke to my neurologist said it was ok to stop since such a low dose I did ! I was ok until the third day full blown axiety , insomia and sweats ! Heart racing can I use magnesium oil spray will that help ? I take a 2.5 mg Valium since the third day if withdrawal any other suggestions hope it will subside ?
I was on 3400mg daily for 6mo I stopped taking these 2 days ago cold turkey,I'm sleeping but the headaches are so severe I feel so low, I wasn't prescribed these I was self medicating for muscle pain aft a stroke ,but decided to take control of my life without these pills,I'm 43 female ,thanks for magnesium tips I need to get to boots today I've just weaned of diazepam I was prescribed for 15 years for panic attacks ,it's been 2month since horrible horrific paranoia swept threw me with Valium withdrawal, now I'm battling these capsules,I'm scared of all symptoms I've read here .
I was on 600 mg gabbapentin for 5 yrs at bedtime for leg pain.I got tired of dealing with the side effects so I went down to 300 mg.Felt even worse so I quit cold turkey 5 days ago.My main withdraw symptoms are itching, high bp,weakness, nausea and heart palpitations.I take bp med but isn't working as good as it was.Afraid I'll have a heart attack or something.I feel worse from coming off this drug than I ever have.A year is a long, long time to suffer.oh yeah can't sleep either.Going to get magnesium today.Hope it helps !
Try Eucerin sking calming cream , it's in the Tube . helps me a lot
I used Gab 1800 mg for 6-9 months. Had to stop due to severe cramping in legs and feet and itching. Used 400 mg Magnesium for cramps and Gold Bond for itching. I stopped and itching continued for six months before going away. I took a 300 mg tablet sometime later and the itching and cramping started immediately. Now I'm taking Propanolol for anxiety and it works well for me.
I took xanax for 30 years. I stopped about 3 months ago after tapering off very slowly. Now propanopol is working well for me. No more panic attacks, quite a relief. Gab was also very good until side effects kicked in, but unbearable when they did.
I took 300mg LESS at bedtime last night ( from 600 to 300 ) and had my first night's uninterrupted sleep in months .
And today nerve pain activity seems to be less , I also limited caffeine , coffee / tea along with sugary drinks .
I will also only take 1 300 @ bedtime tonite as well . I also plan on " weening " myself off this stuff being it mostly maintained chronic sporadic pain . It really never rid me of it .
Good Luck , it's not for me so it should take apprx, 6 months to be Free of it .
Cher, buy a good quality Ice Bag, not a cheap one, fill it half way with water, put it in your refrigerator in a plastic shopping bag.
At night / bedtime ( or when itch is extreme ) simply rest the cool water bag on affected area, you'll see. Good Luck, I've been dealing with this nerve pain for over 4 years, med's seemed to aggravate or worsen it.
Prior to FDA approval EVERYONE ISN'T TESTED for side effects, so what "works" for you may NOT "work" for everyone. $$$$$ that's where money enters the picture in medicine sad to say.
Cher , once again 45 minutes after taking 1 bedtime 300mg Gabapentin the abnormal / sporadic stabbing like Pain began . It could be from other residuals of medications I also take for heart disease who knows .
But I do know 1 thing for certain and that is prior to approval everyone isn't tested and what effects me may not cause the same effects to you as well .
And after tonight's recurrence shortly after taking I won't be taking it tomorrow night .The mnftrs. can eat it themselves .

I decided to taper off of Gabapentin about 6 weeks ago; . My doctor's medical assistant told me to "do it slowly." I decided to decrease it by 300 mg per day every 2 weeks. I'm down to 300 mg per day. I had dizziness, nausea, tinnitus, depression, and severe itching all over my body.
My biggest problem is that I had no idea that these symptoms were due to withdrawal. The itching had me double dosing benadryl around the clock; and it did not help.
Thank God I decided to research this issue-I thought I had a terrible undiagnosed illness! I should have insisted on an appointment with my doctor. His medical assistant was remiss in not recommending I see him.
It goes to show that we have to be our own advocates when it comes to our medications, and use all of the information we have online.
I was on 3200 mgs a day and taken off to fast. Should of been done by dropping 100 mgs over a series of months. Went thru 6 months of withdrawal. Still dealing with a few.
Good Luck.
I want off this medication. Do I cut a pill in half or what? Taper 1/2 pill a day and which one? I take one morning, noon and night. 800mg gabapentin tablets.
Hello. I have been on gabapentin for about 2 months now. I tried to taper off. But I have some sort persistent cough that will. It go away. I tried everything to relieve it. Nothing seems to help. It is affecting my job and my ability to function with my son and I'm embarrassed to go outside because my coughs will not stop. Especially when I talk. I went to urgent care today, and they did not find any infections so they believe it us somehow connected to my trying to get off of gabapentin. I am so tired. Can someone please tell me if they ever went through this as well and how I can get back to normal? Thank you
I was on 1,500mgs Gabapentin for 6 months. I've been tapering off slowly by 300mgs at a time. The first tapering was without magnesium supplements and that was hard. The second 300mgs was with magnesium and went really well. So now I'm trying to reduce by another 300mgs. My question is how much and when should I be taking the magnesium? When I had been taking 600mgs I took a supplement in place of one 300mgs & this helped but now as I've dropped a 300mg tablet mid afternoon should I take a supplement at the time I previously took that dose? I'm feeling dizzy, & clam my just now but am not due my next 300mg tablet until bedtime. Can anyone advise. The supplements are 150mgs & I'm taking 2 a day just now one with breakfast and one mid afternoon.
I used Remag. Start out with a capful in my water in the morning that's about a teaspoon. I would drink half the water and sip on the rest over the next few hours. I also put Epsom salt in my bath water which helped.
Cher, Merry Xmas. I just happened to check online activity, anytime I can offer another opinion to possibly help someone along with helping me is like an "exercise". Try this for possible itch relief: Eucerin Skin Calming Creme, take a spoon add a squirt approximately the size of a toothpaste amount, then add a drop of Geranium Oil, mix and combine both into a paste.
Once done take index finger and apply mix to any annoying area of skin, should soothe within 5 to 10 minutes.
Here's a ray of hope for those getting off gabapentin. I'm just coming to the end of a lyrica taper. As you know, lyrica is a much stronger version of gabapentin but both are b*****s to get off of and the withdrawals are worse than opiate and benzo withdrawal put together, but, I found a way to get from 600mg lyrica to 10mg in a year without any symptoms. At first I cold turkeyed and had bad symptoms, then I dissolved the lyrica in water and took out 5mg per day. I split the dose into four 150mgs doses and took out 1.25ml lyrica water with a syringe as lyrica is water soluble. I reduced the cut (when my signature withdrawal symptom appeared -headache) to 4mg, after a few months, then kept reducing the cut every time it reappeared, and am now down to only 10mg lyrica a day, using 0.8mg cuts. The withdrawal symptoms disappeared in the first few weeks of this daily cutting regime. I know gabapentin is not water soluble, but I believe it is lipid soluble so you may be able to use oil or milk, and a syringe. I measured out a set amount of liquid and took out my daily cut, and found it much much easier. I was terrified this time last year with 600mg lyrica to come off, but now at only 10mg and knowing how my withdrawal symptoms diminished quickly on daily cutting, I hope this message brings hope to those who are tapering off either of these drugs.
