RPHJoe- your completely wrong and you know it! Your job is not "to protect your ass" like you say. You are on a power trip and denying LEGAL patients their medication. You are directly interfering with the doctor patient relationship which is illegal. Yes some people are abusing their meds but most are not and they are the ones being punished here. I was told last month that Walgreen has changed their policy and will no longer sell 40 mg Oxycontin and they won't order it. I have been on this medication for 5 years and lead a productive life working, paying taxes and taking care of a home and family. Without this medication I will end up in the Hospital and on social security disability because without it I can't walk, sleep, sit, stand or anything else because the pain is so overwhelming! You and many other pharmacists are causing more pain and suffering with your high and mighty attitude. Have some compassion and sympathy, because the next person being turned down for life saving medication may be someone you love or maybe even you!

Legit, no im not going to do anything stupid, I know who I am inChrist and i have alot to do. I get frustrated when all I can do is sit or lay around. I also know that we are healed through the blood of Jesus! Its just like a cloudy day; behind the clouds s a blue sunny sky, our view is blocked. My healing is there I just can't see it right now and by golly I know God put poppies here for our benefit. It seems to me that everything the FDA or DEA wont allow are the things that are natural that will help us to be LESS DEPENDENT on the govt. I have to remember, it is written, " we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places" such as the govt. only prayer will change things not us arguing against eachother.

@Spyz Very well said. I'm glad you guys see who the true enemy is. And the true hero is. I'm a God fearing libertarian. Love Ron & Rand Paul. I think Rand could make a difference for you all. He's anti FDA/DEA, wants to legalize drugs, etc. He won't say it now, but his father was for decriminalization. We need to shake up the establishment. Start conversations with your friends. Get engaged in this discussion. True liberty is your best hope.

If you or a friend depend on short acting oxycodone. Be warned the the dea has requested all short acting manufactures to discontinue production.
Therefore find other alternatives for relief soon my not be a available. Anywhere.

Andrew, a documentary would be a great way to bring the truth out about the suffering of chronic pain Patients, Pharmacists, and Doctors at the hands of the DEA. We desperately need someone to help us, we all live productive lives, lives that will be shattered if we can't get the medication we need. Thank you!

If you are a legitimate chronic pain patient and living in Florida and are having trouble getting your prescription/s filled, please send us your story. Please describe as much as you feel comfortable disclosing relating to your condition, the reason for the refusal, the pharmacy involved. Please let us know if you have been forced to go to the ER as a result of inability to get the prescription filled or have been forced into withdraw. Please let us know if you have been forced to go to a smaller pharmacy where the price can be as much as three times higher than the chain pharmacies. Let us know how often this happens to you, what impact it has had and document any future issues and send them in so we can share them with legislators and congressman. Please include a statement that allows us to use your name to congressman and legislators ONLY. Your story but not your name may be shared with our advocacy group but NEVER with the press. Please pass this information along. We also need to know if you are being treated as a “common druggie†either at a pharmacy, doctors office or hospital. We believe there is a HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ADDICTION AND DEPENDANCE. …..{edited for privacy}

Chris. I am a cancer patient who moved to Lakewood Ranch several months ago. In NY I was treated for pain by my oncologist team which included a neurologist and gastroenterologist. In Fl I was introduced to the Pain doctor. I had my oncologist in NY forward all of the documents, scans (I have a petscan every 3 months), meds, surgeries, the routine records. The "Pain" doctor saw what I was being given for pain and said due to Fl being under such scrutiny he would have to cut the qty by 30 percent. This doctor only spoke to me for 10 minutes. No neurological exam (I did give a urine sample and a copy of my most recent blood markers ie cancer test). So he starts by cutting the qty by 30 percent. The meds btw are 10 mg MSIR (not oxy anything). I have meds left for 5 days, so within a couple of days I go to my pharmacy in FL (Walgreens) and find out they are all out (all the walgreens within 15 miles are out). I can not call ahead to see if they have any in stock as they can not tell me on the phone so I spend hours driving. I feel as if I am doing something shady going from 1 pharmacy to another. I finally find one (a Walgreens) 21 miles away that has them in stock. I drive and they tell me it will be a few hours as they need to check the DEA computer info to assure I am not seeing multiple doctors and confirm my history. No problem, by now I have 3 days supply left so, knowing I am not doing anything wrong I tell them I will return the next day. I show up 24 hours later, and am told the dea computer confirmed my treatment meds for cancer and everything checked out BUT they wanted to speak to the doctor who prescribed the meds, and he went for surgery and will be out for 10 days. I ask about who is filling in and could they speak to that doctor. No one is filling in, I would have to wait til the doctor returns from his surgery. I explain I will be out of meds and as they can see I am also taking meds for a heart condition. I worry that stopping the pain meds like this will caus me a problem with the cancer pain as well as my heart. They agree but can not help me. No one can help me. Everyone is sorry....NEXT. I get upset and feel helpless. I am not ashamed I was hit with stage 3c cancer, angry yes but not ashamed, yet I am beginning to feel as if I am somehow doing something shameful by trying to get my rx filled. Someone in line who heard my conversation advised me to crush and snort the MSIR as it will last longer allowing me more time to find a pharmacy. I am shocked. By whatever restrictions that have been enacted, law abiding people with severe pain are talking as if they are dealers. This is not right. I go to the local hospital for advice and they are sorry. Everyone is sorry. They do advise my wife to rush me to the er should I get chest pains, which very well may happen. I am a 50 year old male, and except for dealing with the cancer this is one of the most helpless feelings I have ever experienced. Everyone is sorry....I am scared and hurting.

Dee, im sorry you had such a hard time, but glad it eventually worked out. When you start stressing, start praying. ALL is in Gods hands even when it doesnt look like it. In His Word, He says that if we stop worrying and keep our minds on Him (Jesus) he WILL give us perfect peace. We think we always need all the who, what, why and where, but we don't. Our bodies werent even made to handle all that stress. We were created to worship God and He loves it when we pray and move out of the way, refusing to worry. Thank Him for handling it before you even grt there and whatch what a difference it makes.

Finally, 11 months to the day after my old doctor got shut down and been going to another pain doctor and i was shot with 4 fusions in my neck/back/jaw/sinus and very legit with years of records but this last year all the doctors were scared and today atmy newdoctor i heard through my friend finally accepting new patients and just left and now getting 2 30mg roxicodone every 6-8 hours#150 with oxycontin for my around the clock and this is what i was on for 10 years till last summer.
anyways im in not much pain finally, happy and it took forever and alot of sleepless nights but got them back finally. and the best part is my pharmacist for years only ischarging 75 cents per 30mg roxy. they wer 1.50/pill last year before my old dr shut down. for thelast year my doctor said he wouldnt write roxies or dilaudis so i had oxycontin and percocer 10-325 for breakthru which worked but expensive and the oxycontin formula sucks vs the old formula and i as only getting 5-6 hours relief and taking all the acitominphen in which is bad so this new dr understood, just made me get records updated and new ct scan to confirm and just left the pharmacy and still getting my oxycontin with 30mg roxicodone instead of percocet. and the dosage was too low and i couldnt afford to pay more for the oxycontin if he increased the milligram so im so happy. i hope some of you all also have good stories and doingbetter than a year ago. finally i find a doctor that cares and treats me like a patient not a drug addict. yes im addicted but the meds are warranted. oh, and i never failed any drug test including the one administered today. so happy. :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))).

Spyz,

"In TN, no matter what kind of specialist you need or see, ONLY A CERTIFIED PAIN DOCTOR can write prescriptions for pain meds." Where in the laws for the State Of Tennessee dos it state this ? You have been lied to.

i hope one of your family members gets addicted to something someday and you will have a different outlook. I have been a drug counselor for 3 years and addiction is also a disease. You have a s***ty attitude and karma is a motherf****r. NO ONE deserves to suffer.

It really is a shame when the federal government gets involved because you know how well they handle things, the always screw it up. Sadly they don't look at you as a patient or at your health problems they look at you as a number, they do not have medical degrees or any knowledge of medicine or pharmacology, the legislators in congress or the senate have their own private doctors so the laws that apply to us do not apply to them. If a congressman, senator or the president or any member of their family need pain meds they get them with no background check, no drug test, no fingerprinting etc. if they run short or the 30th day falls on a Sunday they can get them filled a day or two before. They don't have to go through what we have to go through, all the red tape and bureaucracy... All these federal and state regulations do not apply to the people who wrote them, voted on them or signed them into law.....

What annoys me is that because of these "rules/goals" doctors are making decisions regarding patient care BEFORE seeing the patient. The pain doctor (that term still seems foreign to me...pain doctor) I see made a determination last week to reduce the IR meds (Such as MSIR). This is done in response to the rules and have nothing to do with patient care or status.
Re Obamacare, my insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield) sent me a notice that they were cancelling all policies such as mine as of 01/01/14. The state I live in is one of the 27 that has refused to set up state insurers. I thought with Obama, while I disagree with his international policy, I thought perhaps on national issues he would benefit the middle class (what is left of it). It seems as if the gap has become larger with the haves getting exemption and the rest out of luck. I really am, after 30 years working, deciding which meds I can afford, cancelling dr appointments. Very sad and depressing.

Please allow me to aplogize for raising my voice but...
IT IS NOT THE PHARMACISTS!!!
IT IS THE DEA.
THAT'S RIGHT FLORIDA...THE DEA!
They just pulled my pharmacists license for 6-12 months. These are the a$@holes playing doctor.
If you would write your congressman and Pam Bondi "en mass" perhaps we could bring a voice to the suffering. Website Morgan and Morgan, attorney is trying to get medical marihuana. Please go there and vote! Medical pot is a start, maybe then, with all this damn technology we have in 2013, they can tell a patient from a junkie. God bless!

Hi Liferune. I am sorry for what you are going through regarding your license. It is truly an infuriating situation. The reason there is some hostility towards pharmacists may have to do with the way SOME of them are dealing with this travesty. The pharmacists at the chains are by far the worst. I went to no fewer than 9 CVS and Walgreens the first day I was about to run out of meds and before speaking to their corp headquarters. Everyone of the 9 treated me like some corner drug dealer. It was only when my doctor called one on Fruitville that they did the DEA check, showing I was seeing an oncologist, being prescribed these meds for an extended period since being diagnosed, and not doctor shopping. Even then they would not fill it until the doctor sent them notice of specifics about my disease. I have had many operations, some a bit private and while I am not ashamed of getting cancer I really do not want to share the specifics of my disease with the pharmacist. The pharmacist had this uncaring cocky attitude that totally threw me.
What is going on here is so wrong I can not believe there are not newspapers and news stations scrambling to report it. Instead of enforcing laws aimed at punishing criminals, the state of Florida has enacted laws that hurts legitimate patients. I know there are people facing the nightmare I did every day in Florida. This is a beautiful wonderful state with a great history, This situation is a blemish, a cancerous blemish on its reputation.

Well an update to my post last week...im in complete shock but in a good way, not sure if i got lucky or things are beginning to change, maybe all the complaints from good decent people being treated like crap. I was in pure desperation last week when i found out my regular pharmacist had to leave town ans wouldnt be able to order my meds for a week, after completely writing off walgreens it was a last ditch attempt to at least find one of them to get me by. LOW AND BEHOLD I WALKED IN A WALGREENS AND WAS TREATED LIKE A NORMAL HUMAN BEING AND WAS TOLD I HAVE EVERYTHING, I JUST NEED 2 HOURS TO REVERIFY EVERYTHING BECAUSE I HADNT BEEN THERE IN SO LONG!!!! I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA FAINT!!!! He was so nice, ecen telling me he could order for me if he did not have! Im so grateful ive ended up in er twice in last year, what a blessing...i pray the rest of you find your meds, i brought a letter from my doc, my records and mris and just handed him everything....THERES STILL GOOD PHARMACISTS OUT THERE SO DONT GIVE UP! He even said if hes not tgere he cant guarantee the others would do it but as long as i c him because he checked my whole file i was fine...dont give up people, go in and speak to them with all your info:-)
