Cannot fill them anywhere in Bradenton or Sarasota. Please help I have a real doctor and the pharmacy I have been going to the past year in my city says they will no longer fill out of county. Does anyone know of a pharmacy in Bradenton or Sarasota that can help a patient fill qty 180 oxycodone 30mg? Please help. On the verge of getting deathly ill w/out meds! Thank you.
beaux I'm fully aware of your perspective. Repeal the controlled substances act, and all your problems will go away. Advocate 10th Amendment nullification in your state. The bad people always ruin it for the good. Look at the silly pseudoephedrine rules, the list goes on and on.
The board of pharmacy gives us this "power" and forces us to use it. We take a class on that. We have to pass a state board drug law test to practice. I'm licensed in 4 states and took a separate test for each one. My drug test (NAPLEX) reciprocates to all those states, took it once 13 years ago. Oregon even makes it's pharmacists take and pass 1 hour of law continuing education each year. They make us learn law more than the drugs. It's crazy.
This action Walgreens is taking could be due to this story:
post-gazette.com/stories/local/region/former-pharmacist-faces-drug-charges-676134/
If that link doesn't show up, go to the Pittsbugh Post Gazette's web site and search "Former pharmacist faces drug charges". It's dated Feb. 20th 2013. I know a little inside story on this. Crazy stuff! He was doing what you want me to do. Just taking any and all oxy rx's without question.
Beaux, let us know if you need others to join your lawsuit. Walgreen's denied me my medication for no reason and said they will not be selling or ordering Oxycontin 40's any longer. Luckily I found a sympathetic pharmacist who honors a legal prescription or I would be in the Hospital right now. Good luck and God bless!
What good is your ear to the street if you aren't listening to us... if you fill a prescription in good faith... you are off the hook... it's between the PDoc and the DEA... why are you guys punishing the patient when your problem is with the docs... if you suspect a doc then report to DEA... don't do us harm!
Your viewpoint is slanted and does not consider us at all... a lot of pharmacies are not taking new customers or are not ordering the Oxycodone at all... this is not in good faith... and in my opinion and others on this board, you are the problem. Not just you personally, but you the pharmacists.
There is no other business where the front line customer service "employees" have the power you have. This is not right, and it is time you were held accountable for your non-actions. If you really were listening you would be an advocate for us and not be spouting off like you are....
You say my lawsuit will go nowhere... maybe not, but the publicity that it will cause will help bring the problem to the forefront... and then maybe something can be done.
It's not a matter of professional duty... it's as you say, "cover your ass" and that is not professional. Look between your legs and see if you still have balls... I doubt it!

@Frederic All we're asking of the patient and doctor is to prove you're in pain and have a valid patient/doctor relationship. Too many people can't prove it, that's the problem. The DEA is coming down on us. It's not us personally. You're attacking pharmacists, attack the DEA & your state board of pharmacy!!! I bend the rules where I can, when I know people, regular customers. Did it the other night. Do it all the time. I do it in good faith.
@beaux I'm on here because I'm keeping my ear to the street. I'm trying to bring my perspective to you. Pharmacists are not the problem, the government is the problem! We are being forced to do these things.
It has nothing to do with our personal compassion or ego. It has to do with our livelihoods. We're not going to risk our career filling narcotics for patients that cannot prove they've seen their doctor recently and cannot prove their diagnosis. We, as a profession, would rather deny filling an rx for one narcotic patient than have the DEA come in and tell us we can't fill any at all and lose our job, license, or possible go to jail. Better safe than sorry type situation. If I don't follow these rules, I can get fired. It's as simple as that.
Patients are being written rx's months in advance and not being seen by their dr. They're paying cash to the dr's and pharmacies. These same pills are being found in schools and on the street. Now you tell me how to fix it?
Write your board of pharmacy and your politicians. They are in control.
Joe... why the * are you on this BB... you should be in school relearning your craft... yes craft, because you are not a professional... you are a sorry excuse of a pharmacist and should go your own way and get off this board. YOU ARE NOT WELCOMED!
beaux
OMG! Joe, you exist to dispense legal, doctor prescribed medication, PERIOD! What are you talking about, is this what you're being taught in school, to block the doctor patient relationship? You have no idea what these people are suffering from and what's worse is you don't care. These patients have gone through extensive testing, MRI's, x-rays and have tried every other drug possible before they were given a life saving drug like Oxycontin! Why do you insist on pretending to know everything about pain sufferers that you meet in passing, just long enough to tell them that "you" are not going to fill their legal prescription because "you" think they don't need it? You are worst kind of human being, causing your fellow man and woman to suffer due to your over glorified self worth! "Absolute power corrupts absolutely"! For God's sake man, have some compassion!
@Soyuz There's no racism. Our president has that card fully implemented at every turn. I'm white, 95% of the customers I turn away are white. Matter of fact, why is it that the major majority of pain patient, drug seekers are white? GREAT QUESTION!
@goodday Opium has been around for thousands of years. Pharmacists have a duty and a responsibility to question doctors at every turn, that's why we exist. The pill epidemic in America is growing. Be honest, be humble and you won't have a problem. Vote libertarian politicians in office.
I have decided to follow thru with my lawsuit... Walgreen's and their pharmacists who insist on playing God need an awakening... once I have the detail set I will notify the press and get as much publicity as I can for us. This has gone on long enough!

rphjoe@ you truly are a moron. yes people in the early days DID DIE YOU MORON. thats why if you read history the average age was between 30-40 years old unlike today at 75-80. people didnt know about opium for several thousand years and people needing neck surgery or be paraylyzed well guess what...they died as they were paralyzed and could not survive as we know it. oh, guess what, iit was commom for people to die during childbirth, oh guess what, people needing any type surgery for gunshot, arrow, etc ....they died 80% because of infection with no meds and had nothing to do with pain. point is you hippocritte, these meds are available to the public and they are here for a reason....so people dont have to suffer. someday, either someone you love or yourself will need them and your point of view will change as it will take narrow minded people like you to figure out this problem. just do your job and quit questioning doctors...never happened before the new crackdown on pill mills in 2010, so why now? the bad doctors are all shut down and now left with legit pain patients and we have access to these meds to help us live productive days so why shouldnt we be able to get them. you really make me sick.
-RPhJoe--I think overturning the racist drug policies would serve everyone better. It would be much cheaper and more effective to grow your own (plant of choice) and be free to ingest it in a way that suits person. I mean seriously, it took 4,000 years of opium use throughout the world before addiction was noticed!!! or was it the flaxen haired, white women who took up with Chinamen and negroes?
@Frederick So, let me ask you this. Pain relieving drugs are generally new to humans. What did people do before drugs existed? Say hundreds of years ago? Did they stop working and go on disability? Did they just keel over and die? Unlikely. They managed with natural remedies such as opium. And there was no such thing as disability. That's a nanny state, socialistic invention/excuse for people stuck in a vicious cycle of victim hood. It's too bad natural opium's not legally available to you. Maybe we should fault our government before we start blaming pharmacists... Oh, which the gov also regulates. We pharmacists are forced to take these measures. It has nothing to do with our level of compassion. If we don't take these steps, pharmacies will lose their dea licenses and some pharmacists have already gone to jail &/or lost their licenses. So ultimately if we don't take necessary steps, which we are legally mandated to do, there won't even be a Tylenol #3 for you let alone OxyContin 80mg. So I say we go back to how we were before the controlled substances act crippled us. So write your representatives. Take back your liberties. In this age of computers there's no way you can't get a job and work from home. An excuse is just a well planned lie. It's too bad our gov has you trapped. Btw, the paid disability days are numbered. Hyperinflation or a default on our debt is coming. You think things are bad now? I'm sorry.
rphjoe@ i agree. in fact i wish your wife or mom or dad suffered like we suffer then listen to some pharmacy tech like yourself on power trip telling how we should approach you with our doctor prescriptions. KISS MY AS..YOU MORON AND YOUR GONNA GET WHAT IS COMIN TO YA. WISH I KNEW YOUR REAL NAME AND IT WOULD HAPPEN ALT SOONER!
Amen!!!
RPHJoe- your completely wrong and you know it! Your job is not "to protect your ass" like you say. You are on a power trip and denying LEGAL patients their medication. You are directly interfering with the doctor patient relationship which is illegal. Yes some people are abusing their meds but most are not and they are the ones being punished here. I was told last month that Walgreen has changed their policy and will no longer sell 40 mg Oxycontin and they won't order it. I have been on this medication for 5 years and lead a productive life working, paying taxes and taking care of a home and family. Without this medication I will end up in the Hospital and on social security disability because without it I can't walk, sleep, sit, stand or anything else because the pain is so overwhelming! You and many other pharmacists are causing more pain and suffering with your high and mighty attitude. Have some compassion and sympathy, because the next person being turned down for life saving medication may be someone you love or maybe even you!
So glad I got out of FL. Issue I am having in GA now is that the Dr's here even a surgeon I saw does not even prescribe Percocet 10's. I was on Dilaudud 8mg 120 a month. Now I get 90 oxycodon 10-325. They suck but the pain mgmt Dr. here wants to get me off narcotics. The pain mgmt docs here are not as plentiful as in FL. So now I am getting Xanaflex also and off the flexeril. All of it does no good. In pain 24/7 from herniated discs at l4-l5 and s1 also have fibromyalgia and arthritis in back and knees. So I don't get what pain mgmt issue is as they have all my records, MRI;s etc. Is total BS. I am trying to get into a Rheumatologist. I am not sure how good that will do either. I am also in pain as I have scar tissue and adhesions from a hysterectomy I had on August 27th in FL. Surgeon I went to said he will not remove it as that will only create more scar tisssue. Tried saying go to a GI dr and have an EGD done etc as I had gastric bypass in 2002. Well the pain is in my pelvis dumbass. I am on SSDI for the arthritis and fibro. I just can't win no matter where I turn. My PCP has no other options for me for the adhesion/scar tissue but was mortified that the surgeon would not touch it. So here I live in pain on s*** drugs and no options. Pain mgmt only wants to do nerve blocks or trigger points. Had a nerve block in feb and it did shot. SO peeps be glad you are getting the scrips. Even though you have problem filling atleast they are prescribing. Good luck all.
@beaux Provide your pharmacist with a copy of your diagnosis code, signed by your doctor. Also provide your pharmacist with a signed copy of your last physical assessment. You must prove to the pharmacist that you are a legit pain patient. You must prove that you have an existing dr/patient relationship. A relationship that is in person, not online. Do everything your pharmacist asks to prove your legitimacy. Pharmacist have a duty to make sure prescriptions are being prescribed for legitimate purposes within the scope of a doctors practice and that the patient's care is being monitored by that same doctor, i.e. a dentist writing for excessive narcotics, is not within his scope of practice.
Also, show up to the pharmacy looking decent and at a decent hour. Don't wait for your rx, come back the next day or hours later. Don't come straggling in with your buddies at 12:01am drunk and high acting like a fool. Matter of fact, don't come in after midnight with your rx that says "do not fill until." We all know you're treating your withdrawal more than you're treating your pain. If you work nights and can't help it, drop it off and pick it up later. Give us time to evaluate your situation. Do not give us your early rx to hold and fill when due. Drop it off when it's due. Don't take more than your doctor prescribes, if you do, get a note from your doctor as such. Follow all the rules to the letter, don't make up excuses and tell lies. We've heard it all. I hope that helps a little
Joerph.... as a Pharmacist what do you suggest we do to right this wrong? If you all have the power of God to judge us something aint right!!! The system has screwed us and we can find no one to help us.... the druggies still have their street drugs and the legits go with out! What can we do?

beax- thanx and i didnt wanna be rude to ron but i knew hes lying because of the dosage he was stating he gets and i get 4 80mg oxycontin a day since 2000 and with no insurance it is 1200/month and when i had insurance its 25 co pay. my medicaid will kick in soon from ssdi and i called him on his lies but didnt wanna get rude. but hes lying. those r street prices as i told him.
Your lawsuit will go nowhere. Every pharmacist has a personal right to fill or not fill any rx for any reason. Pharmacists represent themselves just like doctors. Just like any retail store can deny selling any product to any customer. Just like you have a right to shop elsewhere. It's what makes the free market free. Perhaps you can do this in another country. There may be outstanding circumstances I'm sure, but in general your lawsuit will go nowhere.
I'm a pharmacist. People come in at midnight with oxy 30 rx's, smell like a brewery or pot, pay cash, and get mad when we don't want to fill it? Get a clue and a life! It's all about covering your ass. That's our main job. If we have proof from your dr that your a legit pain patient, the blame is shifted to the dr.
