Cannot fill them anywhere in Bradenton or Sarasota. Please help I have a real doctor and the pharmacy I have been going to the past year in my city says they will no longer fill out of county. Does anyone know of a pharmacy in Bradenton or Sarasota that can help a patient fill qty 180 oxycodone 30mg? Please help. On the verge of getting deathly ill w/out meds! Thank you.

Let me know if they did it. I just remembered that when that happened to me, they filled everything else, then called around untill they found a close one with it in stock, and explained to them that they were out of it and sending me over to them. Stay as calm as you can, like its no big deal, be friendly, joke around, get on first name basis and pretend to ask THEIR advice. Yeah, suck up a little bit and they will bend over backwards to please you. Afterall, you are the customer. Without you, they have no job.

I'm a pharmacy technician and I'd just like to say you're all screwed. We're over the junkies and the scum bags. These meds are intended for terminal cancer patients and unless your script is coming from a cancer center, good luck chuck. Suck it up and get help!!!!

Hi Dee. It is insanity. People who have done nothing wrong other than gotten ill are being treated like criminals. The DEA insists they are not the reason for the insane treatment. It has been suggested that pharmacies may be trying to express their unhappiness with the fines and scrutiny they were hit with last year for filling prescriptions written by doctors, by making it difficult if not impossible for pain patients to obtain medication. If the meds are available in the state as the DEA insists, perhaps there is something to the theory that pharmacies are just saying they are out of stock to either make a point or to prevent any potential issues down the line. Either way it is a potential dark mark on pharmacists, one of the professions that were rated as the most trustworthy and caring a few years ago (way above ratings given to politicians, police, and bankers) As crazy as it is, I do not know what to tell you. When I ran out and was not able to get an Rx filled I had to go to the hospital where my BP was 209/130. A hospital stay that could have been prevented. When you have spent as much time in hospitals as I have due to my fight with cancer, you try to do all possible to stay out.
I really do not know for a fact what is happening or why. I would propose that someone who is familiar with the law look into the situation and see if this is not somehow violating the Americans with disabilities act. I understand there was a problem with "pill mills" however a blanket rejection to dispense medication to pain patients who have gone through the requirements is cruel.

I've been going to cvs for quite some time now with no problems, last night I dropped my prescriptions off & the pharmist took them, he was new, I had never seen this one before, he dais one of my narcotic's was early, it was 28 days, which today would have made the 29th day, said he would ask the main pharmist in the morning if it could be filled earlier, I always drop them off same day every month, then pick them up next morning, well I just called to see when I could pick them up. & they said they had two of my prescriptions ready, & I asked when will the other two be ready, they said what are the other two, I told them & they asked me to hold on, so I believe it was the pharmacy manager came to the phone and asked me what time did i drop them off yesterday, and i told him, he said he did not no why they took my script, because the did not have them, ( my oxy 15mg) but he could fill the morphine 30mg for me along with my other two meds, now what am i supposed to do, I can't take just one narcotic script anywhere else, & i thought they were not supposed to take your script unless they had it in stock, i'm very frustrated right now, & i suffer from anxiety really bad, i'm having a panic attack as i write this, what do i do, leave them there until they can fill them & go without my medsm or tell them to put back all of my other meds & return my prescriptions and go somewhere else, I don't even know where else to go, let alone the fear of going some place else & then having a problem next month with cvs because i went somewhere else, this is insanity!!!

Its really getting old running out a week or so early at a new doctor. How long does it take to get them to up it t the correct dose anyway?

What Carlos says about the process is true. If you call around enough and ask for the pharmacist they 50/50 will tell you they have it not. Sams started not carrying them for some reason which is why I barely found about this "new process" through Walmart even though they are the same huh?

They won't fill my medication till they call my Dr. to make sure it's a valid reason or something as some people get it for nothing!! It makes me ashamed that it's up to the pharmacist to even consider filling it for you from what Sams has told me. I am friends with a PA and they are really cracking down on these narcotics. They have a system now were they know if you filled any narcotics in the last 30 days and WILL not fill ANY because of Dr. hopping.

WE are in legitimate pain as I am suppose to have surgery for my back, but the risk is I cannot lift more than 50lbs after I do and 1/10 chance of breaking it. I am stuck in this position of pain and cannot even fill my meds without being looked at like a drug dealer too. When I looked and asked around I always got a silent pause and a raised tone of voice! It's sad!!!! I don't deserve to be treated like nor anyone who has legitimate pain!!!

Carlos, instead of asking if med is in, try calling for a price quote, or ask if u used them would they be willing to order it, ask anything that would let you know they have it, but they all do and wont answer that question for fear of getting robbed. I made nice chit chat with my pharmacist for a few months before finding an oxy doc and presenting them with prescription. It helps to transfer all your prescriptions to one pharmacy and Walgreens LOVES when you ask about their reward points. Try even calling to see if you get points from r script. Yes it may take a few days for them to contact doctor and get insurance approval but if you can be patient just once, the following months will be a breeze. Make the pharmacist your friend, tell him your name when you call, buy vitamins and toiletries and other crap when you pick up ur script. Make them ur little store--remember opiates, insulin, heart medication--its all just medication. If you are confident that med is for your, there is no shame. Opiates have been used for thousands of years, for everything from menstrual cramps to fussy babies. We need to help remove the stigma by not feeling the shame that a paranoid and ignorant society try to put on us.

Carlos I'm so sorry to hear about your experience; its not right, nor is there any regs or laws that are requiring your doc to cut you by 30%. In fact, I'm sick of hearing many of these stories from supposed docs and pharmacist about so-called new policies. There isn't even a law saying you have to be in the same county; these are personal decisions Drs and pharmacists are making to cover their own arses.

My buddy lives in Winter Springs, sees a doc in Kissimmee and fills his Rxs in Lake County. And he does this because its the only combination that works for him. I have a Walgreens practically across the street that I've used for 15 years but because of their new policy on quantity, I have to fill my Rx at the Walgreens in Orlando. It's ridiculous. It's sad but if you find a good doc and pharmacist you should have no problem getting your full Rx.

Find a suboxone dr in ur area..heretohelp.com. i was on a ton of heavy meds for over 10 yrs and have been on sub. for 6 onths now and feel great..my pain is minimal or on my worst pain day on suboxone feel exactly like my worst day of pain wen i was taking all those oxys and dilaudid and methadone!! I was sooo scared to try it but im telling you..even with cancer it will make u feel ok!!

Chris. I am a cancer patient who moved to Lakewood Ranch several months ago. In NY I was treated for pain by my oncologist team which included a neurologist and gastroenterologist. In Fl I was introduced to the Pain doctor. I had my oncologist in NY forward all of the documents, scans (I have a petscan every 3 months), meds, surgeries, the routine records. The "Pain" doctor saw what I was being given for pain and said due to Fl being under such scrutiny he would have to cut the qty by 30 percent. This doctor only spoke to me for 10 minutes. No neurological exam (I did give a urine sample and a copy of my most recent blood markers ie cancer test). So he starts by cutting the qty by 30 percent. The meds btw are 10 mg MSIR (not oxy anything). I have meds left for 5 days, so within a couple of days I go to my pharmacy in FL (Walgreens) and find out they are all out (all the walgreens within 15 miles are out). I can not call ahead to see if they have any in stock as they can not tell me on the phone so I spend hours driving. I feel as if I am doing something shady going from 1 pharmacy to another. I finally find one (a Walgreens) 21 miles away that has them in stock. I drive and they tell me it will be a few hours as they need to check the DEA computer info to assure I am not seeing multiple doctors and confirm my history. No problem, by now I have 3 days supply left so, knowing I am not doing anything wrong I tell them I will return the next day. I show up 24 hours later, and am told the dea computer confirmed my treatment meds for cancer and everything checked out BUT they wanted to speak to the doctor who prescribed the meds, and he went for surgery and will be out for 10 days. I ask about who is filling in and could they speak to that doctor. No one is filling in, I would have to wait til the doctor returns from his surgery. I explain I will be out of meds and as they can see I am also taking meds for a heart condition. I worry that stopping the pain meds like this will caus me a problem with the cancer pain as well as my heart. They agree but can not help me. No one can help me. Everyone is sorry....NEXT. I get upset and feel helpless. I am not ashamed I was hit with stage 3c cancer,angry yes but not ashamed, yet I am beginning to feel as if I am somehow doing something shameful by trying to get my rx filled. Someone in line who heard my conversation advised me to crush and snort the MSIR as it will last longer allowing me more time to find a pharmacy. I am shocked. By whatever restrictions that have been enacted, law abiding people with severe pain are talking as if they are dealers. This is not right. I go to the local hospital for advice and they are sorry. Everyone is sorry. They do advise my wife to rush me to the er should I get chest pains, which very well may happen. I am a 50 year old male, and except for dealing with the cancer this is one of the most helpless feelings I have ever experienced. Everyone is sorry....I am scared and hurting.

I know your post is older but I'm curious to know if you've found any help in Sarasota Bradenton area ? I'm now in the same boat with a tumor in my spinal cord!! I CAN'T do this! Any advice anyone out there?

Chronic pain is a debilitating condition, no matter what the cause. The vast majority of patients go thru months and even years of treatments that simply do not work. We all have tried so many different medications, OTHER than opoiods to relieve the pain we are in every day. We do NOT want to have to take these powerful narcotics, but alas, the medical research has not kept up with what we are going thru. Personally, i have tried over 8 different medications over the course of 15 months in an attempt to find ANYTHING that might ease my pain and allow me to function on some level of normalcy. For me, they simply do not work. I have also tried a "synthetic" narcotic pain medicine and i may as well have been taking a baby aspirin for all the relief it brought, which was NONE.

Law makers are so focused on the "abusers" of these medicines and what they need to do to stop them, that they have totally lost sight of who these drugs were designed to help. We are NOT looking for the next high. We do NOT get a buzz from taking these meds. We do NOT even get adequate relief in many cases from taking these drugs. Too many of us suffer every day because of the laws that have been passed in the last few years. Our doctors and pharmacists are afraid to prescribe and fill our medicines and we are the ones that suffer. Yes, accidents happen, but that is not confined to this particular class of drugs. You can OD on just about anything, even OTC medicines.

Before you can pass judgement on anyone surrounding this issue, ask yourself this.... if your mother, father, sister, child were in extreme pain every day but they are not "allowed" to obtain a medication that would allow them to function outside of the bed they are lying in, wouldn't you insist that this medication be made available to them? That's what it's like...every day. Without these meds, patients become bound to bed rest and are suffering horrendously every day. I feel that there are more suicides from being unable to endure the pain any longer than there are lives saved by restricting addicts from getting them!

True there is and always will be people who abuse drugs no matter what kind they are, pain meds included and they will go through any means to get them, lie, forge, steal and even try to rob the pharmacy. Here in Tennessee any pharmacy in east TN. does not even carry narcotics because their store gets broken into every couple of weeks, and fed-ex or UPS will not deliver to east TN. because their trucks get robbed. Middle and west TN. are okay, we do not have that problem but up in the mountains or long back roads in the east it happens. Just like people of any profession there are good and bad ones, you may be one of the good ones but I am sure many posters on here could tell you stories about the bad pharmacists. I had a run in with one in Nashville who was 30+ years graduated from U of Tenn. He wanted to see my medical history, my Dr. called him and ripped him a new one, I don't want my medical history shared with the public. Long story short he would not compound my meds because he thought it was too many, 360 for a 3 month supply, I asked him if he would fill 120 non compounded straight from the bottle and he said yes, no difference. So I went to another compoundng pharmacy and get then filled now. So there are always good and bad phamacists just as there good and bad patients. Many pharcists will short a script and take the meds or sell them, some will sell their out dated meds...So we have to work with each other, the Dr. diagnosis the condition and writes the appropiate medication, the pharmacists fills those meds, the pharmacists does not know our medical history or the severity of our condition...Just work with us legit patients, most will do whatever it takes to be accepted because they are legit and need their meds.
