Fentanyl Withdrawal Information (Top voted first)

Updated

I have been on Fentanyl 100mcg/hr, In vivo delivery of 100mcg/hr for 72 hours and I change them every 2 days instead of every 3 days so the amount of medication doesn't drop too low. I am wondering how the withdrawal is with this drug. How severe, how long it takes to get out of your system and if there is another drug used to help with the weaning? Does one need to be hospitalized & under a doctors care? There are also other drugs involved- Hydromorphone 8mg,2 every 4 hrs,Tizanidine 4mg 2/4 times daily,& Baclofen 10 mg 1 twice a day.

Ask your doctor about Suboxone. it is a truly miracle pill. you will have absolutely no problem at all going through withdrawal, i personally know for a fact that suboxin will supress all symptoms and will keep you energized, like youve never done fetanyl ever or any other opiod

Fentanyl has a very long half-life, it is 80 times stronger than Morphine. The general half-life, when people were using it for 72 hours, instead of 48 was over 17 hours, that is the time it takes to drop to 50% of the peak dosage in your body. Then the tapering slows more, so it would take 3 days or more to totally be out of your system.

You can wean, there are lower doses of it, that will help to lessen the withdrawal symptoms, you can get these patches in as low as 25mcgs. You can also use Imodium, Clonidine, and Benadryl to help with withdrawals symptoms, though you would need a prescription for the Clonidine. You doc will be able to advise you as to the easiest way to get off of these, you can't simply stop using them if you have been on them for awhile, as the withdrawals can cause major problems, including shock and some people have died from the withdrawals.

As to Don's response about the Suboxone, they do not use that to help someone get off of their regular meds, it is only used for abusers with very severe problems who were taking copious anounts of narcotics or benzos daily. It is far to strong to be used on someone who was just on a pain management regimen for awhile and needs to get off the meds after their problems have been resolved or cured. The lowest available doses of Sub would be stronger than what you are using, so it is definitely not a good idea. Like I said, that is only for withdrawal prevention in someone who was a major user of drugs.

My mother is on the patch and has has bad withdrawals as well as gone into convulsions when the dose was too high. Speak to your doctor amout Methadone instead of the patch, this is what my mother's doctor is considering.

Yes, Lou is correct, the Suboxone can work for almost any type of wtihdrawal from opiates, your doctor just has to adjust the dosage accordingly. The stronger the opiate of your addiction and the longer you have been on it, then the higher the dose of Suboxone has to be raised to help you. They slowly take it up until the effective dose is found and then after awhile they taper you slowly down back off of it until you are no longer addicted to anything.

The problem with Methadone for addiction is that most people end up never completely getting off of it, they end up addicted to the Methadone and having to take a daily maintenance dose for the rest of their lives, so they are never truly drug free.

This is why Suboxone is now the preferred drug of choice to treat addiction and break the cycle.

marlyn, Par 246 is a combo med containing Aspirin 325mgs and Carisoprodol 200mgs, a generic for Soma Compound tablets. It couples a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory with a muscle relaxant. This is used to reduce inflammation and treat pain, as well as muscle spasms.

My mom was given dilaudid for a year from a doctor for pain... She just got off it a month ago and is getting really sick... Will suboxone work for her? And what should she do if the doctor does not give it to her?
