Fentanyl Withdrawal Symptoms (Page 49) (Top voted first)

Updated

I'm trying to wean myself off the Fentanyl patch. I went from 75 micro-gms to 50 now I'm on 25. Having a problem and not sure it is related to the decrease in the med. It's been 20 days on the 25 micro-gm and I'm going crazy. I need to keep rocking, moving in any way b/c my body is very restless. Is this a symptom of withdrawal and what do I do? I cannot take it any more.

Chelle, prayer has been done abd I will continue for all of you. You really shouldn't be made to come off this stuff so quickly your pharm is correct. Even if you need to add a 12mcg, that would definitely help a bit. It worked for me. My pain with 100 was unmanageable and my skin looked like I had a mild sun burn on my belly and legs and light blue on some days from being bed ridden i felt like I was dying. Good luck and Weeler, yes on memory loss not to mention I was definitely dumber. Not that I've had much to work with recently anyways.
Take care everyone.

Chelle,
I have been reading all about the "pill mill" bill. It is outrageous!! Some of the legislature on the committee that formed Bill 1 did not even know what a Class III drug was. I understand that your state and Florida had many pill mills which accounted for increased deaths.

But this Bill makes it a felony for a doctor, if he doesn't follow each nitpick step, to give any pain meds unless you have cancer, had surgery or are at end of life.

Chelle, it is an illegal Bill!!

Doesn't the Bill of Rights guarantee us life?

What quality of life do you have in pain?

Can you move out of that stupid state??

Chelle , Shannon, and NN,

CHECK IN!

Stay in touch, else I will loose my mind.

Went back to 75s. My husband yelled that we had worked for years to get to the medicine that WORKED.

Now, he says, because I am ashamed of taking drugs, I am ruining what worked.
Is he right?
I am still weening off the horrid Pristiq and I want to stop the Prozac already.
How long does the sweating go on and this lethargy??

I know we need the meds for pain but mixing them with other drugs seems to be the real issue for me.

I was just offered the position of Director of the United States for an incredible Foundation. Can I rise up and above the pain to function again at such a high level??

Please, pray for me.

Angel, my goodness, what a great position, and by all means, take it. You deserve it and you would be great at it, I can tell just by the things you have shared. Do what you have to do....And I mean it.....DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO.....then maybe you can be some kind of advocate for us that needs the meds. I don't know what the foundation is and what it stands for but maybe with this experience you can either group us together to stand for something or you can guide us as to what we should do to stand up for our rights. My back is hurting so bad right now I could start crying and not stop for a few days....us people that have sever pain needs to stand together to try to change the laws so we don't suffer anymore then we have to. I'm all for anything I can do to help. And with my record of all the things that I have wrong with me, I would make a good candidate. Just whatever I can do, I will.....love and kisses to you, my dear....I am going to call you when I figure out the time difference....

I'm on my 2nd 50mcg patch, so far I'm ok. A little shakey, having a few heart palpitations, but pain wise I am doing fine so far. I am more tired than normal, so I am trying to make sure I get enough sleep. I am making double sure to take my Bi-polar meds and to eat (I don't really feel like eating big meals so I'm eating several small ones). I go pick up my 25mcg patches in the morning, but don't start them until the 5th. Hopefully that transition will go as smoothly.

Angel, I think you can do anything you set your mind to. It just takes determination. I have been working as a Pediatric Home Health Nurse for the last 6 yrs, and I'm on multiple meds (esp since I'm Bi-polar along with the back pain).

I will say a prayer for you. I'm soooo glad I found this group.

Hugs to everyone,
'chelle

HERE IS A LITTLE TO PONDER:::Suboxone and subutex both contain buprenorphine, which is also an opiate (a synthetic morphine, to be exact). In essence, buprenorphine is used to suppress the symptoms of withdrawal in patients addicted to opiates such as oxycodone or hydrocodone while having a far less extreme effect on the body. The symptoms of opiate withdrawal are severe and often include anxiety, restlessness, shakes, sweats and/or chills, rapid heart rate, elevated blood pressure, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, body aches, runny nose, and sneezing.

Suboxone also contains naloxone, a drug that blocks the opiate receptors in the brain in order to lessen or prevent the effects of opiates. It is intended to make it harder for addicts to abuse suboxone for its opiate component. Subutex does not contain the additional drug and is not used in outpatient care except under special circumstances, such as an allergy to naloxone. Though it was originally believed that buprenorphine could not be used to produce a high in an opiate-dependent patient, this has now been disproven, and both suboxone and subutex have gained street value among the addict population.

Suboxone, with its added component of abuse protection, was approved for use in outpatient addiction treatment several years ago. Such treatment, as opposed to an inpatient or residential rehab, reduces the impact of addiction by allowing the patient to maintain their normal life while undergoing treatment.

I picked my 25mcg patches up this morning. While I was at the pharmacy I took my B/P it was 127/87 which is high for me. The same pharmasist was there that called my doc the other day, she asked how i was feeling. I told her pain wise I'm ok, just a little shakey some heart palpitations and according to their machine my B/P was high (I usually run like 90/60). She thinks I'm doing ok, just keep an eye on things. Oh and of course of all weeks my period had to come this week. I feel a little short of breath this morning, but I think that is from the weather change and my asthma trying to act up. Gonna eat something and lay down. Have to pick my youngest up from school at 5 today he has art class after school. Then they go to their Dad's this evening so I can lay back down before work...today should be a good sleep day....yeah!

Hugs,
'chelle

Yes I heard about it, it's great if its not one thing it's another, read about ambien too, pain killers, and dementia, I am glad I am off the fentanyl. Never thought it would happen after being on it 9 years straight.

Lil, 9? Years How long have you been off? How do you feel? Are you pain free or is a lesser amt of a pain killer working now? I don't get any sleeping pills It's been no small feet to just keep me awake most days. I started taking vitamin D and OMEGA XL if you've seen the informercial. I sure hope it works. This fentynal definitely makes me dumber. I'm surprised everyone can still spell in this site. I had to up my patch after the lumbar injections aug 2nd and I was practically or almost off it. I can't win for loosing.

I would be a liar if I said I am not in pain, took me two full months did it myself, also seeing a acupuncture dr. Since may. I was going three days a week now doing twice a week, and recently once. I have on days taken nothing but one percoset or just Tylenol. I have high tolerence to pain and try to get off my feet when I feel it's getting worse thruout the day. I have a temperpedic mattress and it definately helps my back,, sleep on my side with pillow between my lower legs as instructed by dr.. Won't go on fentanyl again unless I can't stand the pain anymore. Was on 75 every other day , never made me sleepy

Ok Lil, started in may and by July so you went down 25mcg's a month? That couldn't have been easy unless your system was just sooo used to the 75 it wasn't even working anymore. I'm noticing that day 2 with the patch on is much stronger. I'm thinking right this second Aaaah that I can go down 25 now :) I'm eyeballing the Tylenol pm ok take care I need to figure out a way to relax I've been placing ads on eBay all day. I've listed everything but the kitchen sink and my tail end.

Ya, sleepy is what I'm not! So we are on the same page there. I'll bet the acupuncture helps, I did massage and an inversion table. I wish I had bought the sleep number when I had money and a job. My mattress is good, but I need out if this world great. So you have been off it about 2 1/2? Months? It's time for me to try again to see how I am now post injection didn't work and never doing it again pain.

I have been using fentynal 25 patches for four years recently 50,I have never been able to keep these patches on and am in constant trouble oing back early because i loose so many patches in a month.I went to my doctor to get off them and he put me on df118 which were hopeless as the withdrawels were horific aaand i used a weeks suply[3per day]in two days.my dr sent me to hospital where a doctor, pain speciliast and served a an army suren for three years, decided that he wanted to put me on the medication that the Consultant put me on when he realised te operation on my ulna nerve was not a success and he could not operate again. The drug in questionwas oxinorm/oxicodon.I attended my doctor to have my new prescription given out he would not give it to me as he said I had caused to many problems with the patches[new script was for a combination of oxicodon and oxynorm]which I was on for six days in the hospital and despite not sleeping for 4 nights due to fentynol withdrawles[I was kept in hospital due to an irregular heart beat]Now I am back at home and on df118's again and again up all night with withdrawles from the oxys I reived in hospital.I have no idea what to do now.

Dear Reverend,
If anyone has trouble keeping the patches on this is a common problem.
Here is the best solution.

The company 3 M sells in most pharmacies "Tegaderm Film". This is, as it states on the cardboard package, "a Transparent Film Dressing Frame Style". Buy the 4 x 4 3/4 inch size.
It looks like Saran Wrap. You first put on your patch and remember to activate the glue by holding it with a warm hand for 30 seconds. The Film goes over the patch. I GUARANTEE you will never loose a patch again!
The film lets air through but keeps out water.

Shannon, I am back on 75 and happy to be here. No pain, no withdrawal. I am almost off both Pristiq and Prozac and go to see psychiatrist tomorrow. He may not be happy. Too bad. Those antidepressants drove me over the edge.
I think of you all every day and look for a posting with glee.

Thanks for the words of support.
I was physically and horribly verbally abused as a child by my alcoholic father. This Foundation stands for the end to child abuse. It is a huge job. I was Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign manager in my state in 2008 when she ran for president. I met and talked with her, President Clinton and had a lunch with Ann Lewis, Hill's best friend and the head of Emily's List. The Democratic Party in my state wanted to back me in a run for the Senate. I refused. I really hate politics.

I have accepted the position but have great fear that I will fall apart on the road somewhere.

Don't leave me. I need all of your support. But don't tell anyone about me, okay? You are my secret best friends.
I have to go and find a picture they can post on the web and Facebook.

Maybe I shouldn't take this but start a foundation for chronic pain sufferers.

Shannon- I believe my body just got use to it after so many years. I also have a high tolerence to pain and medication, I really did not feel withdrawals that I noticed. I use to get horrible hot flashes but now my acupuncture dr gave me a herbal called Relaxx extract. I see you can buy them online. I take 8 tiny pills twice a day. It's worked they are gone.. Inexpensive too. I am dealing with the pain without the fentanyl, also trying no ambien, since they are saying can cause dementia.

Lil, I'm guessing your a female also? I've had the hot flashes on and off for about a year or so now at age 42. I thought it was pre menopause but the hot n cold flashes I got after the injections were non stop and WAy different I think I'll try the relax too. It's for hot flashes? If you want to try the anti inflammation omega XL and mention my name you get a free bottle and a $40 ck if you refer Someone too. I've been on it a week so I need more time I don't suffer the withdrawal like others do either. Knock on wood. But I taper down different than most. I should ask my dr if he can get massages paid for as they sure do help but adds up.
