False Positive Benzodiazepines (Page 8) (Top voted first)

I have been taking suboxone for almost a year and had to move to a new doc. They drug tested me and said I tested positive for benzos. The funny thing is I have not taken ANY benzos. I have to go take another test today at 5 and I am scared s**tless cuz they said if benzos are still in my system then they can not see me. Knowing that I haven't taken any benzos makes me wonder if I might still test positive for it again. I did take some cough syrup and some percs but that is it. What could cause this?

can macrobid cause a false positive in a urine drug test or any antibiotic for that matter because I have tested slightly positive for benzo use and have not used benzos for over a year now and that was prescribed

Hi. Bezos take an awfully long time to be totally clear of your system. If you used a drug which wasn't a benzo per say, they could [dealers and all] have used Diazepam 2mg as base to cut it with. That said I had a patient come to me whom I know very well. He had not taken a single bento since his withdrawal. After 3 years, we did an random test which he was very happy to do and was positive for bentos. So either a cut/base product if not legit maintained [though these days so many pills are counterfiet meds they can get into the supply chain, but also can take ages to get out of your sysrem - I believed my patient , Ive know him for 15 years. Try a good 1.5 litres of water per day, over say 6 hours - helps to flush through. so it seems we never quite get rid of it unless reversal. it does compete for recepors in the brain , namely opiate based receptors. So, if a small amount of codeine was used , should cause displacement, however then you will have codeine in you!

I'm on 150 milligrams of methadone daily I have earned 4 take homes working on five and six in a month I take diclofenac and gabapentin. .i havent ever tested positive for benzos..but i tested positive so a conformation test waa done that tested negative for ALL benzos .they are still trying to take my takehomes...i am about to exploded from anger bc i. havent done anything please help!!!!!! .

Dear msjanuary,

As you contested your drug screen results, and were found to be negative for benzos, your clinic has NO RIGHT to revoke your takehomes!! The first thing that you should do is file a written grievance. Some clinics have specific forms for this, but if yours does not, then just put your complaint in writing and give a copy to your counselor and to an administrator...but make sure that you keep a copy for yourself, and make sure that the date of the grievance is on each page. You should request a fair hearing-which you have the right to, and your clinic must comply within a timely manner. Then, contact NAMA and request a patient advocate to attend the hearing with you, by phone or Skype, if necessary. Advise your clinic that you have contacted NAMA, and that your patient advocate will be attending the hearing with you. I doubt that it will go any further, or that you will lose your takehome privileges. These clinics, for the most part, count on the patients to be ignorant of their rights and options for recourse should those rights be violated!! Also, you should visit the SAMHSA website, where you can order tons of informational literature at no cost-you do not even pay shipping. The first thing that you should order is the TIP (Treatment Improvement Protocol) 43, which is what almost every clinic in the U.S. must adhere to. EDUCATE YOURSELF!!! Your clinic will be MUCH LESS LIKELY to try to take advantage of their position of "power", which is what most of them are all about!!!

Hi nancypants,
I am wondering if you ever found out what med was giving you a false positive?
Im only asking because I have ran into the same situation. I attend a methadone clinic, been clean for seven years just recently tested postive for benzos. I have never ever taken a benzo in my life. My drug was opiates. I just had my third positive and freaking out. I recently started taking 200mg of Zoloft from only taking 100mg. I have taken this med for six years and never was positive before?
So confused! !! I also take levothyroxin for thyroid but thats it!

I am on the methadone program and I get drug test occasionally I am also on drug court and they test me too I took the last three volumes the doctor gave me about two and a half months ago and it is still showing up for benzos in my drug screen why isn't showing up still because I haven't taken anything since then

Hi Nancy parents I just read your post about the positive false positive for benzo and that you are on methadone and have been clean for 2 years your story is the exact same as mine except I don't take anything listed as you take I only take high dose of iron 1 daily vitamin and acetaminophen for headache and I tested positive for benzo I had them send that test out for lab waiting on reply now did yours get figured out

I have been terminated from my Dr. I got a letter today saying she can't see me anymore or give me adderal anymore because I tested positive for benzos and marijuana. The problem is I know for a fact I haven't done either of these things. I've told her before that I used marijuana but she told me if she was gonna help me I'd have to stop cause she would have to drug test me monthly so I stopped that she's done 2 drug test and nothing but what she gave me was on the drug test. Now 2 weeks after she gave me diclofenac I had to go to the er and I tested positive for benzos and marijuana. I looked up what is benzos and I know for a fact I haven't done Xanax or klonopin cause years ago my dr tried to give me that and I slept for days. I have a 1 year old and a special needs child so I can't be sleeping like that. Can u tell me what could've caused this test to be positive when I know for a fact I haven't done any of that. Thanks.

I am in pain managment and I take oxycodone and a substance called Embeda that is a reformulated type of morphine. I was informed that I tested positive for hydrocodone. I was in shock since I never take hydrocodone. I am allergic to it. I've been tested again and have to wait to see the results. I am afraid it will happen again and I will be dismissed. I do take alot of other medications including over the counter meds. What in the world could have caused this? I'm a wreck as I have severe pain issues and also do not want this on my record!

Please help... Today I had 1st visit to suboxone clinic they said I tested positive for benzos, but I haven't taken any in at least 4 weeks. I have a prescription for diazepam but stopped taking them because of the way they made me feel but the doctor didn't believe me. Does anyone know how long they stay in your system? I have to be clean next time to get the suboxone. Thanks

I have tested positive for benzos after taking gravol MANY times. My test is very specific and will screen for temazepam, diazepam, etc. It will come up as benzo detected, then they run a confirmation spectroscopy where they look for what specific benzo it was, and always it comes back as confirmation NEGATIVE! Myehealth is an awesome site in Canada where you can see your blood and urine tests results and all the normal reference ranges. check it out.

A faint one is still a line... I'm assuming you are using the tests that one line is positive and two are ne.... Even if you have two lines and one is faint it is still negative. One line that may come up faint is still positive. We actually found the website for the tests they use here at cps. My sister is on subutex and adderall but supposedly came up positive for methamphetamine even tho there were two lines but one was faint and took my niece and my nephews and placed them in Foster care. These tests are bul.. I showed positive for serax and I swear on anything I NEVER TOOK SUCH A THING not to mention I have never seen it before. I had to google it and still had never seen it before in my life. But yes a faint line is still a line.

My name is Christopher I had gone through similar thing I am on a methadone treatment program. I was tested positive for benzo's I had found out it came from Gravol that I was taking for nausea maybe this will be helpful

Well I just had a baby 24 days ago, the day after I had him CPS showed up and said that the hospital called them and told them I tested positive for Benzo's I have never taken any Benzo's... The only thing I took was my prenatal vitamins and Tylenol #3 and ibuprofen and now I have CPS on me and I don't know what to do...

I know how you feel. I tested positive for the same thing and the new pain doctor won't treat me till I go back next month and test negative for that. I wanna know also cause i didn't know I was even taking those. And I can stop taking whatever it is that's testing me positive for benzodiazepines. I have fibromyalgia and ibuprofen 800 just ain't getting it he said he'll put me on Suboxone for the pain. I went to detox to get off morphine but when that pain kicked in a couple days after I got home, I would rather be in labor. Cuz the pain was unbearable.

What are the ingredients in the cough syrup? I actually just received a letter from my pain management saying that they are releasing me as a patient because I tested positive for benzos, which I hadn't taken any, I hate benzos lol but for a while I was taking that over the counter sleeping medicine called Unisom cause I wasn't sleeping well (turned out to be pregnant, and had a miscarriage). Unisom contains Doxylamine Succinate, which is an antihistamine, just like Benadryl, which can cause a false positive for benzos. Always be careful about OTC drugs cause they can end up f***ing you over in the end... if that cough medicine has doxylamine succinate or diphenhydramine, it just might cause another false positive for benzos..

They can do what is called a confirmation of the drug test that showed the benzo which can and will break down every chemical in your body, I have been in a methadon clinic for 17 years I had 21 take homes showed positive for Benzodiazepines and they took my take homes till I had a clean urine so I got them back 2 weeks ago and had a drug test on 3/10 and showed up benzos again now I will have to go everyday for 30 days so I would ask for the drug test that showed benzos to be retested my clinic charges 6.50 for the retest

Hi I'm on a methadone pg and I been clean over 10yrs for the past couple of months I been showing positive for benzo I'm on several medications which is Benadryl, celexa ibuprofen seroquel gabapentin
Tizanidine lisinopril thyroid relafen can drinking all of these medications give me false positive of benzo

I take gravol once in a blue moon when i'm nauseous & everytime it shows up as benzos. I know for a fact it is because i only consume by methadone besides the occasional gravol. So there are meds that can show up as an illicit narcotic when you urinate. Somehow your body converts it to something else when it comes out as urine.
