Extreme Fatigue On Xarelto (Page 2) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHello,
Hope someone can help. I've been hitting a wall of fatigue everyday about 1pm to the point where I need to take a 2 hour nap when my daughter is napping and its painful to wake up even after that. I take Xarelto everyday with dinner to treat a DVT. I've been on it 4 months. Is this a known side effect? I tested my theory when I started to realize this began after taking Xarelto and skipped a dose one evening. The following day I didn't need a nap and didnt have that same debilitating exhaustion. I'm only 34 this is no time to be this tired after a full nights sleep! It feels like a crash, an unnatural exhaustion. Thanks!
Sine I was on xarelto for 17 months many problems from weight gain muscle pain dizzy and the list goes qn so the doctor yesterday took me off xarelto because of med conflicts now on baby asprin and starting to feel great all I can say is to get off aS soon as possible this drug is bad news
Re: Terri (# 51)
I was placed on Xarelto after a cardiac ablation in December 2017. A month into it I am extremely fatigued and in a fog most of the day. I have to remain on Xarelto for three months but if this continues I will stop, as it is definitely the Xarelto that is causing this. The only other med I am taking is a blood pressure pill and I've been on that med for years with no side effects.
Hi! Sorry about the problem that you're having.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a lot of side effect information on this drug, yet.
Learn more Xarelto details here.
I'll keep looking and post back, when I have information for you.
Have you consulted your doctor? They may know more about why it's doing that.
Glad I found this post I think my symptoms are mild compared to some of yours.
I crash about one every day.
I am also on Xarelto, have been for 45 days now. I'm a super active person but I just feel tired all the time! I have a clot in my knee and calf do to a vein ablation I had done in March. I went in today for an ultrasound and no improvement. How long will this go on for?
I asked both my PCP and my hematologist. Both said xarelto should not cause fatigue. I had a PE in late December after having total hysterectomy in Nov. from uterine cancer. I definitely fight fatigue and have to lay down at least an hour a day. I am 66 and work two days a week. I have to lie down when I get home.
Found your post as hunting to find out if alone on exhaustion on Xarelto.. but exactly same story.. on a 6 month course of Xarelto after small blood clots in the lungs from DVT equivalent in calf muscles after long hot, cramped drive on a holiday journey ..
Active, small holder life and tennis playing .. eye-lid dropping tiredness, and often grabbing a nap for 2 hours in the afternoon, and tired afterewards, also after a good night sleep. Worried it might be diabetes-like tiredness, or exacerbated if drinking alcohol - which I find does happen, taking 4 days no drink, followed by some wine and beer over a weekend. But, in summary sounds like this lethergy and aching just happens with the drug, have to let it do its work, and improve once the course is run. Thank you for all posts. Good to find.
Re: typeone (# 4)
I appreciate everyone sharing their experiences with Xerelto. I had shoulder surgery and developed blood clots. I am very active with weights and running, until now. I am through my second week and feel so exhausted. I need a nap everyday and feel like I have the flu.
I was on Xarelto for 6months following PE. PE leaves you exhausted with little energy, but it was extreme by 6 months. My hematologist switched me to Pradaxa & 72 hours later, it was like a miracle(!) - felt like myself for the first time since the PE.
I found a website you can search for your doctor if they are getting payments from big pharma companies. My doc who put me on xarelto has received $110,000 in payments from them. You may want to see if your doc is working for you or big pharma.

Re: Verwon (# 1)
I was taking Xarelto and your right I was so tired I had to lay down a couple of times a day.
Yes also was very, very sick at my stomach. And had t take an extra water pill for the water retention. My Doctor could not understand why. But changed the Xarelto to Eliquis. Don't know how that will do I have only started it this morning. We will see what
happens
Thank you for your replies.
How did you stop xaerlto did you wean yourself off ?
I had a TKR 17 days ago and am doing a round of Xeralto to prevent DVT. Since starting it, I am exhausted, emotional, no energy period. Even physical therapy wears me out for 24 hours. From what I have read, Xeralto can and does cause extreme fatigue, anxiety and troubled sleep.
Hi Craig- have you continued to improve?
I hope so!
Since I wrote my post in January my CF dr strongly advised me to stick with the Xarelto.
I'm exhausted in pain and feeling bad.
Family doc is switching me back to warfarin; last dose of Xarelto was yesterday.
Hope I get my life back. :)
I've been on Xarelto for about a month and having fatigue that is getting worse. My husband seems more troubled about it that I am. I just feel too tired to really care about it. But I rarely cook dinner any more - until a couple weeks ago I cooked every evening. Just too tired now.
I must say reading this thread has eased some of my worries, but as a single mum of three... My youngest being two.. I cannot stay on this medication with exhaustion to this extreme!
I'm hoping someone listens to me as I will be handing the packet to doctor next visit and telling them to change it, I can't chance this when kids go back to school
There are natural blood thinners, I have a clotting disorder and used a combination of a few. I knew they were working because the leg I had DVTs in stoppee hurting and my gums bled a little when I brushed my teeth. Try looking into Gingko Biloba, Cayenne Supplements.. also Butchers Broom for swelling from DVTs. Ginger root also thins the blood, and Garlic has circulation benefits.
I am currently on Xarelto for DVT after fracturing my ankle. Had I continued taking those supplements... I can guarantee I would not be on this blood thinner. I am always exhausted with it myself.
Take care.
Hi everyone this is Craig.now that I've been off Carleton for about 6 months getting better but this drugs takes a toll on your body in every aspect.I actually made my doctor take me off the drug.my clot was just about gone.
Under the care of my doctor, I have switched back to Warfarin after 1.5 years on Xarelto. It's been six weeks now - first bit I felt better - but now I'm having fatigue, nausea, joint aches and headaches... Can this be withdrawal? If so, when might I feel better!?
